Either reroll all hits or none. Dont mix.
Care to elaborate, Gink? I'm leaning heavily toward mixing, even if it gives me a hangover in the morning.

I was going to make a Lando joke but that started veering towards Bill Cosby territory. Lando is better than that.

Because if you spend all game not rerolling then you will be annoyed if you reroll for a blank or hitcrit. Either cause of the blank or of what might have been with the other dice you didnt reroll.
Hedge case... Luke vs admonition... keep hits, don't go for hit crits... 25% of admo health is already good enough, don't risk the blank, let her discard a token for a hit if she likes... getting her closer to a ram or double ram death is ideal.. admo will always cancel the hit/crit
I am no statistician, but I believe that if you go into every bombing run with a single black die and bomber command you have a higher chance of getting hit/crit than miss. Hence, always Hit/Crit![]()
Do you just believe that because you're no Statistician?
As someone who once rolled 5 straight bomber blanks in the Vassal World Cup, I will never ever ever EVER re-roll a single hit with a bomber unless it is a Nym blue die.
EVER!!!

You can say that but the next time it happens and you just need one more damage. . . just one more to put the killing blow on that ship. . .

I seen it.

It is true though. If you plan to reroll everything but hit/crit, you have a higher chance of getting a hit/crit than you do of getting a miss (overall). However, once the first die is cast and it isn't a hit/crit, you are at 25/50/25.
Whereas, by virtue of the fact that you can draw a distinction between individual discreet chances, and chances resolved to an endgame point (loaded resulting), points to the fact that, you are indeed a Statistician...

I would make the worst statistician EVER! A witch on the other hand...I do float...

So...take home summary: always fish for the hit/crit?

YES! It is like the always go for it on fourth down thing in football. Statistically, you should always go for it on fourth.
Also, I have about the worst black dice imaginable. I cannot tell you how many times I just need one hit on a ship and have a single A-wing or YT going at it. I have blanked EVERY TIME!

If you plan on always going for H/C, then you have a 43.75% chance of getting a H/C, A 37.5% chance of getting a Hit, and a 18.75% chance of getting a Blank.
However, once the dice are thrown, and it's not a H/C, there's a 25% chance of getting a H/C on a reroll, 50% chance of getting a Hit, and a 25% chance of getting a Blank.
It's playing the odds. Something Vassal in particular seems to loathe. (I swear the RNG in Vassal is a direct conduit to Murphy, and Murphy seems to pick one side to be on each game.)

Vindication by numbers!
It is possible to reroll that Black dice twice from two different bomber commands. I Just ask since yesterday I Play with friend. He re rolled two dice with hit and roll blank each time. He suggested tht if he had 2 gonzanti with BC he will perform much better.

Unresolved, will need a FAQ. Check the rules subforum to see the discussion...
I tried the "always reroll" strategy today. I must admit that my willpower gave out in turn three, after a mere two conversions of "hit" to "miss" in a row. However the target ISD only had three HP left so I figured I'd rather take it down a round sooner even if it meant an extra activation or two.

From Rules Reference:
"A "while" effect can be resolved during the specified event and cannot occur again during the instance of the event"
BCC : "While a friendly squadron with bomber at distance 1-5 is attacking a ship it may reroll 1 die"
So no, they do NOT stack.

Actually...
BCC #1: "While..."
BCC #2: "While..."
These are two separate and independent effects. Same name, same trigger, same result. But separate instances, so each can be resolved once.
Anyway, I'm fully convinced that, statistically speaking, there is only one optimal strategy:
-If shields are down, you should always, always, always* fish for a H/C. The expected outcome of a reroll is significantly better than 1 damage, so there's no reason to settle for a below-average result.
-If shields are up, I recommend keeping the hit. Mathematically speaking it makes no difference at all whether you reroll or not, but on a psychological level you do risk becoming frustrated, which won't help your game.
The presence of Brace tokens is largely irrelevant to the equation but, if anything, reinforces the above-mentioned strategy.
*: Unless a single hit is enough to guarantee a kill, whether instantly or due to some other unavoidable effect, e.g. the ship is going to be rammed.
Already being debated in afore mentioned Rules subforum. We don't need this debate to take over another thread.

Aren't the chances of you rolling a blank the exact same as rolling a hit/crit?
