Acrylic Tokens

By TreebeardTheEnt, in X-Wing

I am purchasing acrylic tokens. I was thinking about getting:

15 shield, 5 evade, 5 focus, 5 stress, 5 critical, & 6 sets of target locks

I already have 6 ion tokens from organized play.

So that brings me to my questions:

How many shield can a 100pt squad use?

I tend to fly 2 to 4 ships, are 5 evade/focus enough?

Is there anything I am not thinking of?

15 shields is fine for most lists, though you can get more in 100 points if you really want to. 4BZ is 22 shields. 4 lambda shuttles is 20 shields. Most lists though even if they have more health probably wont have more than 15 shields. Double ghost + ywing for instance is 40 hp, but only 15 of it is shields

I would go for 25 shields and double the other tokens. Stress can stack into the dozens with stress hog builds, so I'd at watch out there, too.

Extra munition tokens are great, too. Cloak? Tractor beam?

Which brand of tokens are you getting?

I was going to use two companies: team covenant for the ones listed, and someone on etsy.com for the reminder tokens for palp, 3po, Kales ( https://www.etsy.com/listing/455368560/acrylic-reminder-token-set?ref=shop_home_active_1 )

What are the other companies?

If you ever play larger than 100 pt games, you might need more, but I think 15 is just right. If you played a Z-95 swarm, you would need 14.

I ordered a bunch of acrylic stuff from this German company. His movement templates are my favorite of all movement templates. I was even just last night getting compliments on the shield tokens. They are clear plastic with the graphic underneath. It kind of makes for a magnifying type effect that looks a little 3D. It's pretty cool.

Conversion is $11.32 for 20 of them. I didn't find shipping too expensive from Germany, but it does take a while. Maybe 2 months to get your stuff?

I highly suggest Curled Paw Creatives - their stuff is awesome... Well, I recommend their stuff for everything but shields, there are better shield tokens out there. Those from Germany look real nice, but personally I use Applied Perspective Premium Mirrored shield tokens, and I love em. But everything else from CPC is awesome, as are the makers.

I would recommend the following breakdown:

10 Focus tokens (8 are needed for a true swarm, and 10 is a round number)

10 Evade tokens (see above)

10 Stress - You can theoretically take as many of these as you want, but it gives you enough to double stress your ships in a 5 ship squad, or provide you an opportunity to stack ~5ish on a ship if you're doing an stress stack (Zuckuss, Tycho, Stressbot, Yorr, etc)

0 Critical - No one uses these.

5 Ions - But you said you already have these

9 Sets of TLs - Or 10 if you want - I prefer getting the numbered ones from CPC and then I can match the PS with the TL. The 10th would be 0 to represent 10 (8 w/ VI). It also provides you enough for a Z swarm if you ever do that, and provides you choices in case your opponent is using the same ones as you.

6 Extra Munition Tokens - Gives you enough for a bomber alpha strike, or a double K bomber load out. I think of this as 3 sets of 2 tokens for all your ordnance needs - who brings just one ship with ordnance?

3 Weapons Disabled - For all your white supremacy needs... And Corran Horn of course!

3 Tractor Beam Tokens - For your 3x xD TB lists, or for 3 Blues w/ TB + something to do damage. Plus the Shadow Caster allows a token to stay on.

2 Cloak Tokens - Yeah, you can actually run 4, but who has 4 Phantoms? Realistically, the only list you'd play more than once for SnG would be Whisper+Echo, and if you choose to play 3-4 for fun, just use a cardboard token.

20 Shield Tokens - For running 4 Bs.

So while I might have some excessive numbers listed here for normal playing, one thing I would point out is that eventually you will lose a token or two. In the past 2 years, I've lost an evade and a shield. If that evade was a focus, and I only bought 5 to begin with, I'd be short changed in many lists.

I also have his stuff, it really looks great! Just takes a LONG time to ship from overseas. I agree with the list from Khyros above, but get 5 critical hit tokens and actually use them. You will lose a token or two here and there, so I bought pleny extra when I got mine.

Are the target locks the same dimensions (or very similar) as the carboard ones?

Three YV-666's with Shield Upgrade would be 21 shields... but no one would run that. I hope.

True... and 4 Blues, 3 with SU would be 23 shields. But again - why would you run that? BBBBZ on the other hand is 22 shields, and people DO run that (or at least used to).

Someone was running that in my game store for a while. It was ugly.

The target locks are slightly smaller

Ok, I think I am going to get:

15 shield, 10 evade, 10 focus, 5 stress, 5 critical, 2 cloak & 6 sets of target locks from Team Covenant &

4 Tractorbeam, 4 Weapons Disabled, 4 extra munitions, and 4 reminder tokens from Curled Paw Creative

I plan on participateing in several local organized events so I should be able to get 6 more stress tokens that way.

Having just purchased range rulers, maneuver templates and the standard token set from them, I have to say that I am incredibly impressed with the craftsmanship and quality. Also, offering so many color options and even styles of target locks was great. Plus, with the upgrading etching art on their templates and rulers, they just look really well done and were ordered and at my house within a week, so can't beat that. I highly recommend them, as well.

I ordered the templates as well, but I didn't realize what it meant to come unpainted. Did you paint yours? What did you use to do it? Did you use primer first? Spray paint?

I outlined how I painted my templates in this post.

To tag another question onto this post, does anyone make acrylic range 1-5 rulers or is the epic community OK with simply combining a range 1-3 with a 1-2 ruler?

Bad call.
The use of a Critical Token is mandatory and enforced by good TO´s.
Having stupid issues crop up because some players are to lazy to place a reminder token is a waste of the TOs time when we are called down to hear the good old "We forgot to do X and now we want a call on how to handle it"-story

For Criticals, Art of War Studios are now doing a set of "specific Crit" tokens.

Not tried using them yet as I only painted them up yesterday - took about an hour and added some extra colours to make them clearer.

True true. I will say that CurlyPawCreatives stuck 5 critical tokens in my large order with him... and since I've moved over to Kanan (and typically end up with several crits) actually use the token. Still not sure how much it helps, but between being used to having a crit and putting the token down, I no longer forget crit effects.

@Hobotrain, Cogotwo is the place to go. You can see the range rulers in my old post here.
