I think this Zeb rox...
I wonder why they deleted that scene. It was awesome. Maybe it will be back in episode VIII
I dunno why they chose to chop it....and it is awesome...

I totally agree that it was awesome, but remember that the audience for this movie is supposed to include kids. It is straight up brutal, and the fan in me wishes there was more of this kind of thing, but my 5 year old may think differently. (I dunno though....)
I am mentally adding it whenever I watch the movie though. Cuz it's not wise to upset a wookie.

That explanation doesn't hold up. The prequels were made for an audience that included kids (Jar Jar exists mainly for them) and in that trilogy we saw Maul cut in half, Dooku nad Jango behaded (Dooku especially gruesome since he didn't have an helmet, and finally Anakin lose all his limbs AND burn alive. That's quite more brutal and gruesome than Unkar's arm being ripped off. Now that's a bit of fan service that would have been liked by all the fans who grew up with episode IV.
Obi Wan lopped off an arm in the first one. I have a friend who thought it was a little too slapstick/monty python.

And the prequels got a lot of flak for that tonal whiplash, so it's not surprising they wanted to avoid it in the revival of the series.
Plus the entire scene just seems kinda unnecessary. It doesn't add much. And the whole thing seems like a big "HEY GUYS REMEMBER A NEW HOPE" which the film had plenty of in the first place.
It's not smart to upset a wookie....
Note how Chewbacca steps on Unkar Plutt’s foot, in order to be able to rip the arm off?
I always wondered how they’d do that sort of thing. When I first heard about the idea of a Wookiee ripping off someone’s arm(s), I always thought that they pulled on both arms away from each other until one or the other was ripped off, or maybe they grabbed one arm and threw the guy really hard and then yanked back.
It never occurred to me to step on the guy’s foot to keep him planted to the floor/ground while ripping the arm off.
Cool!
