An Important Message for UFS & Kingdom Hearts TCG Players

The greatest stories and most fantastic adventures are timeless. They move across the world as they get shared from one person to another, spreading like echoes from the source of a sound. The oldest of these tales are known to you because someone thought it worth the telling, and found you worthy to hear it. Great stories live on by choice.

But all great things must eventually come to an end, and the time has come to gracefully call two such adventures to their final resting place. I speak of UFS and Kingdom Hearts TCG.
Despite all of our continued and best efforts to grow the player base, rebuild the tournament scene, and revitalize what's possible in the CCG category, we have been unsuccessful. We have made the tough decision to leave the CCG market, entirely.
And while the choice to exit the collectible card game market may make sense from a business standpoint, the agonizing decision to end production of both UFS and Kingdom Hearts TCG was and still is very painful. The truth is that no matter what we have tried, the numbers have dwindled to a point where we cannot sustain either product.
Over the course of the past two years, we have had to accept the difficult truth that the CCG market was heading for collapse. Like it or not, the CCG market is defined by Magic: The Gathering plus a small handful of others that are primarily kid-centric, focusing on a few well-established cartoon properties and anime characters. It has become apparent that new CCG products don't have a fighting chance in this increasingly challenging market, no matter how excellent the game.
We greatly appreciate the support of everybody who has stuck with us all these years: the players who continued to participate in the tournament scene, everyone who remained active on our forums, as well as at your friendly local gaming stores. As with any social hobby, it is represented by the individuals that take part. Both UFS and Kingdom Hearts TCG have brought together as diverse and supportive of a community as we could have hoped. We thank each one of you, and salute you for your efforts!
This announcement is as difficult and painful for us as we know it is for many of you. There are years of personal history wrapped up in both these games, and it is not a choice we have taken lightly. But as with the grandest of great stories that come to an end, those of us who love these games will continue to play. The stories set in the world of UFS and Kingdom Hearts TCG will go on! We hope that each of you who truly enjoy these games will keep playing them, and continue to love them as much as we do.
In response to the declining CCG market, we invented the Living Card Game format. Players have shown us that they are tired with the chase for playable cards and the resulting exorbitant cost of CCG's. The LCG format offers better value for players, a constantly expanding card pool, and allows for greater innovation in game design.
We are confident that card games have a tremendous future, and the LCG format was developed to address feedback from thousands of players throughout the hobby community. Each product we've released as an LCG has been a resounding success, and Fantasy Flight Games can now put our attention and energy towards this new evolution in card games.
Please read the following letters from two FFG staff members who have also been deeply affected by this turn of events. We hope their responses might finish answering some of the questions you're likely to have.
