Thrawn crew card

By Pappkristof, in X-Wing

We could see Grand Admiral Thrawn (one of my favorite characters from Eu Legends) in Rebels Season 3 Trailer so I'm quite sure that he will appear in x-wing soon.

What ability can you imagine to him? I created a custom crew card. What do you think?

that's a 2 point card right there

it's only 5 points when you achieve the glorious dream of guessing a red maneuver on a non-hera ship

Solid.

I would prefer his ability to be about knowing something rather then guessing, but I'm not sure how to balance that. And this relies on the aptitude of the player in predicting your opponent's movements, which makes it a skill card rather then an automatic use, which is more Thrawn.

Broken in combination with Intelligence Agent

I wanted to add some interactivity to the game like C3-PO. And I think finding out the movement of the enemy is an ability that fits to his personality.

I think that giving a stress token every round to nearly any ship + built is intelligence agent + TL anywhere on the map worth more than 2 points.

By the first round you already have a TL on a stressed enemy ship with no action. :)

I think its a cool, fluffy ability for Thrawn, but yeah, way overpriced at 5 points, and possibly not quite cool enough for him. Possibly the same trigger, at three points, but maybe it lets all friendly ships within range 1-2 of you acquire the lock, like a multi use thread tracers?

Instead of performing an attack, you may select a friendly ship at Range 1-3. That ship may receive a focus token. Then, it may perform a primary weapon attack and add one eyeball result to its attack roll.

3 points? 4? 52 points?

I toyed with some ideas a while ago on adding Thrawn to the standard 100 pt game... i had him as a duel card and taking up two crew...

However, i think it would be difficult to balance him in the standard 100 point format.

Perhaps he would work better as a condition card?

See the problem is Thrawn is the Batman of Star Wars. With enough preparation he is unstoppable. How do you add that in to this game is the question? IMHO Thrawn should pick an enemy ship (Kallus) and that dial should always be revealed the rest of the game. This gives him the ability to prepare against said ship.

But what would that cost? Significantly more than Sheev does right now.

My version of thrawn lets you pick an enemy pilot or crew card at the start of any phase each round and negate their ability the rest of that phase. Oh, you have dengaroo? Manaroo doesnt get to pass a focus (would depend on initiative i guess since shes also start of the round). Or you dont get to use zuckuss. Oh, someone is in dengars arc? He doesnt get to use his ability. Youre flying palp aces? Palp does nothing this combat phase.

Nitpicking: The card will probably be "Grand Admiral Thrawn" and not just "Thrawn". Show some respect.

I made mine "Mitth'raw'nuruodo" :D

Edit:. I think Admiral Thrawn would only really be in epic play.

Unfortunately in the new canon he is just Admiral Thrawn. No Grand. Sorry

In the Rebels season 3 trailer Hera calls him "Grand Admiral Thrawn". Obviously at some point he used to be just Admiral before he got promoted.

Id have said the same about palpatine, but we got him in standard play, ao...

Yes, at 2 points!

Fair point

Against some ships, it's absolutely brutal - especially some of the PTL aces. Even Soonitr you're likely to be choosing between a turn or a bank in one direction.

I think its a 2-3 point crew, especially when on a Phantom or combined with Imperial Agent.

While acting as a SUPER INTELLIGENCE AGENT (no range restriction) may be nice I'm not sure that those added benefits for guessing correctly would be close to worth the additional price you're paying for the ability.

I'm also not so sure that just giving gaining a TL and giving Stress on a ship that could be clear cross the board is something that screams THRAWN!!!! to me. When I think of how much influence Thrawn should have on a battle I'm thinking it should be on par with what Palpatine does in that his ability should potentially be game breaking if used exactly the right way.
