What Drew You To X-Wing

By DanDoulogos, in X-Wing

Same story as most, I grew up playing X-Wing and TIE Fighter on the PC. I have always loved Star Wars and bought a ton of SW MicroMachines back in the day. My younger brothers and I would play with them for hours and had tons of dog fights - X-Wing is just a MicroMachine dogfight for grown ups. :)

I played a lot of the Decipher Star Wars CCG and tried the WOTC Starship Battles game (HUGE disappointment). I was cautiously excited about X-Wing when I learned about it but the pre-painted, non-collectible, classic trilogy timeline, and easy rules really got me on board. The Christmas after Wave 1 was released I got the 2 cores and one of each expansion, it was glorious. Ever since then I've been patiently waiting for wave after wave missing its release date. But its been totally worth it. Up to 101 ships and I have my money ready for Wave 9.

My wife and I are both huge Star Wars fans. Last Christmas she bought me a few TIEs(chief among them a Punisher) because she knew I'd find them cool, proving two things:

1) It's true love.

2) I'll never be rich. Ever.

First and foremost I'm a wargamer, around the end of 2014 I was looking for something new, not liking the direction 40k was going and needing something else other than dystopian wars to play. It was either going to be x wing or bolt action.

I'm more into historical games than Sci fi but the historical community here in nz is like three times my age and then some. I like joking and having a good time while playing but most ww2 gamers are so **** serious. So I got x wing because I could close my eyes and pretend it was mustangs and 109s. Turns out most x wing players are old dudes as well but they're a pretty cool bunch.

Star wars is pretty cool too, but I prefer the old Republic era to the gcw.
