Top 10 Possible X-Wing Ships - A Great Analysis From Our Very Own Crabbok!

By FTS Gecko, in X-Wing

Great work Crabbok, love it!

Probably a pretty accurate prediction and for the right reasons. That said, the only ship on that list I would want is the Gunboat... and I am not even in the fanatic gunboat camp. They all seem like such filler ships.

And ugly, too.

I like the Star Jewel and gun boat... Yellow Ties, what a fancy way for a show to save money on 3D assets and what a sellout for our game if they ever get their own expansion. I sincerely don't hope all 3 factions get Tie fighters.

I like the inclusion of the Lady Luck - it's canon, it was in Clone Wars and it has multiple pilots (or crew) and titles that could be introduced, but I think it may be just a touch too big for standard play, and might be a possible Scum epic (which means we COULD potentially see it earlier than Wave 11).

The Ark Angel.. OK, so comic only appearance at the moment, but to me it just looks like a very heavily modified Firespray. That said, we have plenty of slightly modified versions of existing ships out / coming soon (TIEs, Poe's T70, the Force Awakens Falcon), so it's a possibility.

But the Lady Luck is... UGLY.

Really? I like it! It's a space-going pleasure yacht, complete with viewing deck and swimming pool, what's not to like? lol

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Crabbok's list. I say unfortunately because there are a lot of ships in there that are really, really not pretty. I also think the Lady Luck is really ugly in this universe, getting a Tie for every faction is... zzzzzZzzzz... And the Resistance Transport may be the most dull design I have ever seen in Star Wars.

The Resistance Transport is pretty much guaranteed after the announcement of the Quadjumper. It's petty much the only remaining ship from the Force Awakens, and there's already a dearth of Rebel/Resistance ships to choose from. I imagine it's going to be the Rebel ship for Wave 11.

The Lady Luck is a pretty cool ship, I remember the interior was pretty good looking in Jedi Outcast :P.

Really though the only ships that remotely interest me on that list are:

Lady Luck

Delta 7

Ark Angel

YT-2000

By the way Crabbok, Cham Syndulla's shuttle looks an awfully lot like the Nu-Class Shuttle from The Clone Wars: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Nu-class_transport

Interesting choices. Also there are only 9 ships in this list Not 10. Not sure I agree on them all based on ffg's history but here are my thoughts.

1) Tie Fighter (Scum)

- Seems pretty likely now I agree thanks to sabine's version for Rebels.

2) H6 Bomber

Since its in armada pretty good chance of coming in. I'd have it a few spots back on this list though.

3) Resistance Troop Transport

- Considering we are getting the quad jumper no way this ship doesn't get in the next wave or two.

4) Assault Gunboat

Should be much lower on this list of at all. FFG clearly doesn't want this style of ship (also the missile boat) in this game for the time being. The fact they put the punisher in the game is more proof of their choices.

5/6) YT2000

I thought this was a shoe in for the Scum pwt awhile back. But instead they did the Jumpmaster and now EU seems more off the table so it might have missed its chance.

7) N1 Starfighter

I think (or at least hope) this one is likely soon. I'd have it higher in this list probably top 3 for likelihood.

8) Ark Angel

Possible but not likely. Agree that it's kind of obscure plus such a weird design. Maybe even too big to use?

9) Lady Luck

Its canon now so that should bump it higher. But as you said it's probably too big so that makes it unlikely for the normal game (but could be a cheap epic ship!).

10) Delta 7 Jedi Starfighter

Probably not very likely anytime soon. I'd bet on the eta2 before this one.

Leia's ship from Bloodlines. But first disney needs to publish a description.

I'd probably be interested in the YT-2000, because it fits the aesthetic and I like having variety in that size of craft. The Gunboat is also cool, because of its ties to the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games. The H6 seems fine too. Scum can use some more small-base ships (even if it would be on the large side for a small-base).

Everything else, I can kinda take or leave. Mostly leave. Jedi Starfighter just doesn't fit into the universe unless they go a prequel era. There are no Jedi left to starfight in them. Who would be the pilots? Obi Wan? Kind of anachronistic. The N-1 is a stupid chrome banana tadpole, and a painful reminder of The Phantom Menace. If we need a Leia pilot for some reason, she can get a Y-Wing pilot in a Rebel Veterans pack, because of her appearance in it in Splinter of the Mind's Eye. It would literally be less awful than anything from The Phantom Menace. Mining TIE, meh. More a symptom of a lack of creativity on Rebels as anything else. Lando's ship isn't really a warship, and it's kinda silly looking. Resistance Transport is also very "meh", in both look and in its gameplay potential. The Ark Angel would be cool if we needed a ship with a nonsensical name that looks like some kind of undersea creature with too many guns strapped to it.

Nu-class Attack shuttle is canon. From TCW

I think the Mining Guild TIE will have a horrible dial compared to a regular TIE but add 1 shield... 13 points.

I'd be okay with the Ark Angel showing up. It would give an excuse to include triple 0 and BT-1 as crew cards.

I guess it would be a S&V expansion. Maybe allow the use of a single Imperial crew card through the Ark Angel title?

Well, I'm pretty simple....

So... ..

A lancer class pursuit craft lost its engines,

smashed its cockpit into the lower half of a firespray. (at a weird angle, just like all of the next parts)

Then a jedi starfighter lost its cockpit glass, and then crashed into the behind of that firespray part hard enough to make the pointy front disappear.

Then the whole thing crashed into the back of a corellian corvette tearing off 3 of its engines which then melted onto the back of the puruitcraft.

Then it flew past 4 nearby vcx-100s, ripping off their turrets.

And after all these unlikely events a giant space hummingbird lost its head (probably shocked of this whole scene) which got attached behind the jedi starfighter.

And that whole disaster has to be included in x-wing? :o

Edit: ^that is, of course about the arc angel, which i Really hope wont be added. H6, gunboat and yt-2000 would be awesome.. i like lady luck but don't think its good for x-wing. The rest.. mehh its ok if they have to.

Gunboat, Scurrg and N-1 Starfighter are a given.

YT2000 hopefully yes (specially if Scum and Rebel dials). But with so many large Scum ships, this isn't a priority.

Lady Luck: it would be nice to have a Scum Lando, but the ship would look very weird in a combat scene.

Delta 7 Jedi Starfighter: doesn't fit to the OT era...

Mining Guild TIE, Resistance Troop Transport and Ark Angel: oh God, please no.

I don't see how the gunboat is a given. The Gunboat missed it's opportunity to get into the game. There's so much official material being added nowadays that there simply isn't space for a Gunboat to fit into a wave, let alone the design space. The gunboat is characteristically a rather bland ship compared to things already in the game. It wouldn't do ordnance any better than any other ship. It's only thing would be that it has an ion cannon. Don't expect a new cannon with it because all the cannons that the gunboat used are already in the game. Frankly it wouldn't do anything new and FFG doesnt have the wave space for an old, overrated EU ship anyways.

The only way a gunboat gets made is if there are literally no other Imperial ships available. Then again, this may be feasible because Rebels basically have no other new ships until Rogue One comes out and we got an ARC-170 and a Rebel TIE. I love my ARC-170, but i acknowledge that it happened because FFG needed to put out something for the Rebellion. So maybe Imps might just get a Gunboat. Then again, you could just get a TIE Avenger instead. But you're getting the TIE Striker first, for sure. Which is another thing, why aren't the U-Wing and TIE Striker on that list at the very tippy top? Those are brand new starfighter-sized ships, we're GOING to see them in X-Wing.

Besides, i don't know why Imperial players want it so bad. It'll be just like the Rebel ships that they don't like. low AGI, high HP, bad dial, mostly upgrade slots. It'd come out and they'll realize that what they idolized wasn't necessarily what they got.

Variety. Nostalgia. A continuation of the Cygnus Spaceworks aesthetic. There's lierally 190+ pages of reasons why Imperial players and Star Wars fans in general want to see the ship in the game.

And to say it's "missed it's opportunity" is ludicrous, unless FFG really like the idea of leaving money on the table.

That said, there are other ships in Crabbok's vid which rank higher for release - the Resistance Transport is nailed on for Wave 11, and the Lady Luck is probably the top candidate for a Scum Epic ship.

Prequel ships like the N1 and Delta probably sit at the bottom of the list, and the Ark Angel is a raging dumpster fire of biblical proportions.

The empire doesn't seem to be receiving as many new ships (fit for x-wing) as the rebels in the new materials.

Rebels season 2 had none IIRC, Rogue One only had TIE Striker and, given how much if a rehash of the Empire First Order is, I think the most we can expect from episode 8 would be TIE/fo Interceptor and TIE/fo Bomber.

This means FFG would need to pull from EU and among EU ships the Gunboat is probably thr most popular Imperial ship ATM.

I really hope we don't get the Sorosuub/LadyLuck as scum epic...I love the ship & its design, but as I said in another thread discussing same, having a copy of Mel's version, it's not much longer than the Ghost/Deci, and a lot slimmer...

...and just doesn't have an "Epic" presence on the table  ...I'd really hope for something at least the size of the Goz for scums first entry into the field ;)

Edit: ...maybe as the 2nd scum epic ???

Hey, practically all the ships with cannon slot in this game used in fact Ion Cannons, and that didn't stop FFG to release 5 (not counting the tractor bean) cannon types.

Any ship is bland until the FFG guys do their magic. And they are becoming good at it. If they can do it with ships that feature for 4 seconds in the screen, they can do it with anything.

For instance, I made this rather uncreative custom Gunboat expansion. Throw it with this cannon upgrade (Jamming Beam), and you will get a fun ship (and maybe even a must buy pack for any player). I didn't even need to create some new maneuver or crazy new mechanic like conditions.

Nobody talks about U-Wings and TIE Strikers because they ARE COMING until the end of this year. Heck, they could be announced at any time now.

There are 4 kinds of X-Wing players: the nostalgic (will buy the ships they connected in the past), the new purist (only new canon stuff, preferably screen canon), the collectors (buy everything) and the practical (buy only what is useful). The Gunboat can sell well in 3 of these 4 categories.

A very strong base of this community grew up with Legends. As much pressure Disney and the new canon does, FFG can't ignore the fact there is a lot of people who wants the Assault Gunboat.

I think the N1 is very high in the list, after its inclusion in the Aftermath comics (pilot Leia is a must). I even believe it is higher than the Resistance Transport. We will get another utilitarian crew ship with the U-Wing, so no hurry for that abomination of the Resistance Transport.

Hopefully the Episode 8 brings any other crew ship so that thing is buried and forgotten.
