Targeting Scramblers Twice?

By Bayard91, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Last Friday I was watching a game that included two ships that were armed with the Targeting Scramblers.

A MC30 flew in to unload on a ship, and the Imperial player used the Scramblers from both ships on the single attack the MC30 made.

Is it possible to make someone re-roll dice that you already made him/her already re-roll?

Yes.

Armada rules specifically allow a dice to be rerolled multiple times.

The only hinger on this is the fact that we have no rules to state wether the same card, in two places, is considered the one effect, or two effects... There is simply no rule on that, because its only just come up in two places - Bomber command Center, and Targeting Scrambler...

However, we do have some unofficial advice, from a Games Designer, provided in an interview, that states that they should stack, so it should be legal to have two Targeting Scramblers work on the one attack, or a Bomber under the effect of two Bomber commands to reroll twice.

And of course, Obligatory Rules Post: (OHEY, I've done it without Editing! - Italic Emphasis mine)

RRG, Page 7, Modifying Dice:

Modifying Dice

Dice can be modified in the following ways by game effects:

• Reroll: When a die is rerolled, the attacker picks it up and rolls it again. A die can be rerolled multiple times.

Interesting. I'm not going to argue it, but I feel like that can be a bit much.

Thankfully though my fleet does not bank on close range attacks.

Hopefully we will get an FAQ on it soon with an official answer.

Normally, you're restricted from doing these things by the "While Defending...." or "While Attacking..." terms.

You can already reroll dice multiple times through multiple means (Having both Darth Vader and Leading Shots, for example)...

The only stigma is, this time, its two copies of the same effect, because they have 'bubble' ranges, that it has come up...

In all essence, they're generally well-costed, even if they do stack... Because in the case of Targeting Scrambler, they're Exhaust to use... And in the case of the Bomber command center, they need to be well funded with otherwise fairly fragile flotillas, in range, potentially in danger, for something that may or may not provide much of a benefit....

That's a lot of points spent on that double reroll that is only available at close range, though. Seems adequately balanced.

I'm honestly not too worried about it because most of my attacks are at long/medium. I just wanted to clarify.

Thank you!

One of the core conceits of Armada is that the attacks are more powerful specifically because the defensive powers are extremely powerful. Unlike in X-Wing where players largely have to roll evade dice that may not successfully block an incoming attack, instead the attacker has to count on their attacks potentially being severely impacted without any enemy randomization by abilities like Brace, Redirect, and Evade.

Absolutely.

Three times a lady.

And I love them.

I know this topic is old but last night I played a list with 2 interdictor both equiped with targeting scrambler at a point I could ave make use of both in one attack but I did not. The reason is that the card have the same wording "while" like bomber command and since BC cannot stack anymore I think its the same even if Targeting did'not get an FAQ. So Im wondering what you think ?

BCC was specifically faq'd

That applies only to it, and had to be so because normally you can. The BCC FAQ only applies to it (as a Nerf)

"While" means the same upgrade cannot be used multiple times... But two separate copies of the same upgrade are "essentially" two different upgrades as far as the rules are concerned, so they would both trigger.

You can ABSOLUTELY Targeting Scramble the one attack twice if you have two Valid Scramblers in range.
