Damaging an attacking unit.

By mateooo, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

lets say player A declares an attack on player Bs quest zone

player A declares his 1 savage gor is attacking alone.

player B then plays a tactic that deals one damage to the savage gor, equal to its hitpoints

Does that now end combat at that point with the death of the gor? Or does the gor getting to finish combat, and then die?

I would say the Gor dies at the resolution of the tactic. Therefore, no more steps in the combat sequence. I do not have rulebook with me but I know in there it talks about damage being applied outside the steps at the end of the battlefield attack process. That instruction says you have a seperate assign/apply damage sequence for that effect.

Sooo, in your example, the Tactic triggers an assign/apply which kills the Gor before you ever get to Declare Defenders...Assign Damage....Apply Damage.

He is imediately removed from play with the resolution of the tactic. No power is totaled, damage pooled, assigned, or applied. Page 13, first paragraph - " Any unit that has as many (or more) damage tokens on it as it has hit points is destroyed (and discarded). "

Whether you declare a defender I imagine depends on the unit having the Scout keyword... because of right now there is no rule saying combat ends, which means it should cycle through all 5 steps with each following player action window. Now if the defender has no unit with Scout (or other ability that triggers if it participates in and survives combat) it will pass through the steps with probably very little if anything being done.

I would not be terribly surprised however if with the Flowchart we get a clarification/errata that ends combat if all attackers are removed before defenders are declared.

Yep, stupid checking for the page and paragraph number. I can't believe I don't have the whole thing memorized yet. lengua.gif

This is the danger of letting slavish adherence to things like FACTs get in the way of broad general assertions!!!!!!!! gui%C3%B1o.gif
