a 'friendly ship' at range 1 vs 'another' friendly ship at range 1

For clarification, does this always mean another friendly ship or is this inclusive? Can a ship benefit itself with this wording or is it limited to a different ship? If a ship is at range 1 of itself can it help itself with its own special ability?

I played a game a couple of Sundays ago where, when there was no other ship within range 1, the other player said that ship can help itself with its own bonus. Thanks

If an ability says "another" friendly ship, it must be a different ship. A ship can be at Range 1 of itself, and is considered friendly to itself, but it cannot be "another".

Parravon is correct. It's all about the word " another".

If the ability says choose ANOTHER ship at range 1, then it must be a ship other than the one with the ability.

If the ability says choose A ship at range 1, then the ship may choose itself.

It helps if you reference the pilot ability or upgrade to clarify the allowable affect. Here are some Examples:

Captain Jonus Tie Bomber - When another friendly ship at Range 1 attacks with a secondary weapon, it may reroll up to 2 attack dice.

- This means everybody but you within Range 1 can reroll.

Kanan Jarrus Rebel Crew - Once per round, after a friendly ship at Range 1-2 executes a white maneuver, you may remove 1 stress token from that ship.

- You are considered friendly to yourself, so this card includes you and any other friendly ships in Range 1-2.
