Range on attack.

By JD0GE, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So me and my friend are having problems with the rules on measuring range when attacking. My friend believes that when measuring for attacks that it is closest point to closest point. However, i think that the closest point on the defender has to be within the attacker's firing arc. Can someone clear this up for us?

If you are not using a turret weapon it is closest point inside arc. Turret weapon is always just closest to closest. It talks about this in the FAQ but the picture can be misleading due to PDF rendering issues and one of the ships appearing to not fall within the "shaded range area" but it actually does if the picture renders correctly.

There's no need to go to the FAQ for this.

When measuring range for an attack, the attacker measures to the closest point of the target ship that is inside the attacker’s firing arc.

- current rulebook, p. 16

You are correct, there isn't a "need" to go to the FAQ but the problem with that is it doesn't cover all of the possibilities like the FAQ tries to do. And outside of the rendering issue (download the whole FAQ then view it in something other than a web browser and you should see it correctly) the FAQ does a good job of explaining the differences and a couple upgrades as well.

mmmm... so?

closest points anyway?

thank you

What? They literally both just said closest point in arc if not using a turret weapon of some kind.

Hey, your English is 100% better than any other language for me! Hopefully it's all clear now. :)
