Having an upgraded dial for every ship seems unnecessary and incredibly expensive. They are modular and designed to be easily swapped between your ships' dials.I really, really didn't want to get these. But, after all the positive reviews and recommendations, I'm starting to rethink it.
I had the same thought, but my son wanted some, so I got him some for his TIE/D list... and I was hooked. They really are great.
Are you swapping out the dials or one for each ship?
Maneuver Dial Upgrade Kit - Are they reusable?
Personally, I do not swap my manoeuvering dials back and forth because of the hassle, but I bought (or won) a few of them for my favorite scum ships. I then took a bit of paint and added some color to the mandalorian logo to make my dials really easy to see (I painted it red). So far my feedback is:
- The dials themselves are bulkier, so I would not put my entire armies in dials; just my favorite ships
- Seeing all manoeuvers is really, really nice. I had 1 or 2 incidents in the past where I picked the wrong manoeuver because of sheer exaustion, but with these dials, its really easy to avoid that mistake.
- Strong, sturdy and when painted, good looking.
So yeah, so far I've had nothing but good expriences with them.
For existing ships (X-wing's etc) how many of the little ship tokens do you get?

I bought two packs of dials for every faction to fly more than three ships at a time in the correct dials, and I have enough tokens for my 75 ship collection.

what's the secret to disassembling the dials without scuffing everything up?

Push down (and through) on the Portrait token and the edge of the dial. That will slide the pointer-assembly right off.
It occurs to me you maybe meant the regular cardboard dials. use playing cards ... slip five into each side of the dial hub, one at a time, and then twist the cards gently. I got so that I could disassemble three or four a minute.

I bought two packs for each faction and just swap them out. I prefer 4 ship builds, so buying two packs per faction made sense.

Um, it never occured to me to do that. I'll give it a shot tonight, thanks!
I had my doubts about them. Then handled a local player's. Now I have one kit of each and I'm really liking them.
The one down side is that they are insanely fun to paint in different schemes , so I may go out and buy more just to satisfy my creative urges. Well, that and I need 6 of each, just from the fact that my sons play too.
Very nice storage setup man.
Darn. I just picked up dial upgrade kits for Imps and Rebels ...and my K-wing cardboard doesn't fit. Woe is me.
(edit: I said a badword)
