Should I get a second Rebel Squadrons pack?

By Hamanu1, in Star Wars: Armada

With all the new goodies on the horizon, especially the Rebel Squadron II I'm on the fence whether to buy another Rebel Squadrons I pack.

I have 3 Imperial Squadrons for that Rhymerball, but only 1 Rebel since I mainly use X-Wings and I have those in spades.

So, basically, the only reason to get the second Rebel pack would be the extra B-Wings.

Do you think its a sound investment or should I rather buy a second Neb-B to go with Liberty or another flotilla ship?

It really depends on if you want to use other fighters besides xwings

I would, just to have the stands ready to go on the extra ace and unique squadrons from Corellian Conflict. But then I own 3 already, and have additional B's and A's for swarming, so take my opinion with thay in mind.

I say yes because it can allow you to try other things out. Experiment with differnt ships and combos and you might find some fun new possibilities. I have recently found a new love for the humble Y-wing, bomber command has IMO made them super effective.

Cool.. Thanks. I'll get another pack then :)

The only reason to not get a Second Pack, is if that money is specifically allocated, and you would be sacrificing your one and only chance at a Rebel Fighters II pack, when they were released, by getting it.

Otherwise, the mixed-usage and possibilities they present, are worth the cost.

Go for it. You aren't buying ships, you are buying options.

Yes. Because B-wing.

Yes because I have 4 of each and I plan to get more. It just doesn't feel right to have 2 ISD, 2 VSD, 3 GSD, MC80 Home One, MC80 Liberty, and 2 Neb-b without having enough fighter minis to represent their full fighter compliments.

I got 3 of each. But only because someone took a whole A-wing stand from me. :( I was deeply saddened by that.

Don't forget about Correlian Conflict that will be giving us more options for all of the fighters from the wave 1 pack. On the plus side, all of the units are rare, so you won't want more than one additional pack for each side for that.

Yes. . . People must play with B-Wings. It makes them stronger competitors!

They dont come with models just the cardboard so you will need more models or you will be swapping from one plate to the other or not have enough plates since there will now be 2 Aces AND a Unique.

I feel like that was his point Lyr. Buy the pack to get the stands to cover the new tokens.

Definitely. 1 squadron pack isn't enough. I have rarely found myself using only 2 of a particular type of fighter in a list. If it fits and is appropriate to the list, there is usually 3 to 6 included (Escorts and Intel ships not withstanding). At least a 2nd pack is good, and a 3rd is even better.

Also, if you are a married, and a glutton for punishment, then make sure to get 4 Rogues and Villains too. That was one of my... ah... more intelligent buys. All those Firesprays didn't really keep me warm in the doghouse though.

If for nothing else then to add escorts to your flottila models :P

But yes, you should buy another set of rebel fighters IMO. A-Wing swarms could be very effective sometimes.

Correct. I guess my post wasn't clear.

Lots of fighters, just get lots........I've got 12 x wings, 10 A wings, 6 b wings and 6 y wings...... I would like some more y wings...

As I am primarily the Imperial player I got 3 of those as I mentioned, but since I supply the brunt of both fleets in my games with a friend I will get the second rebel squad..

If he wants 6 B Wings... he can buy them himself :D

I think a mix of X-Wings and Y-Wings delivers the best Star Wars feeling. ^_^

With bomber command, it also offers a pretty effective and reliable force. With Y-wings +1 speed, +1 hull, and -4 pts over B-wings, they have become my go to and have yet to disapoint. I park them with Jan near GH until they are ready to pounce, or use flight controllers to send them into the dogfight. While they can't lock down due to their heavy, their 6 hull and (with BCC) reroll bomber, they are something that capital ship fighter screen can't ignore, but can't just cut apart or run away from.

when asking yourself if you need more fighter squadrons. the real question is what is the most of one type you will ever deploy based on your standard squadron points used.

Max Deployable per type 134/100

X-Wings 10/7
B-Wings 9/7
A-Wings 12/9
Y-Wings 13/10
TIE/LN 16/12
TIE Advanced 11/8
TIE Interceptor 12/9
TIE Bomber 14/11
now if your like most people I've played a against there will be far less on the field then these numbers.
In all the games I have played I have never seem more then 10 squadrons total on the board for one player, and this is normal a mix of types.
I personally find that core set + 2 squadron boxes always seems to be good, but it all depends on how you play.

I wouldn't pick up any extra Rebel or Imperial squadrons right now. Between Corellian Conflict and the secon set of squadrons for both factions the squadron meta is about to chnage drastically. hera Syndulla, for example, is an anti-squadron she-beast and will likely significantly influence which squadrons you want to field.

I did this to my buddy first game after I got my GR-75. Fielded. 3 X-wing and 9 Y-wings. 2 RAF-B with flight controllers/ExHang and 2 GR BCC/ExHang. The look on his face when he saw the number of fighter stands =. Mission...Precision Strike.
