Wave 6...Possible Ideas???

By ShadowFox1138, in Star Wars: Armada

Wave 6: Blast from the Past (I guarantee that would be the article title if these ships are what they went with).

Imperial: Ventator-class and/or Acclemator-class. They fit just as well into the Imperial aesthetic of triangle ships, and they were available as ships in Empire at War. Wouldn't be a bad choice to bring into the game.

Rebel: retrofitted Providence-class ( Rebel One title) and/or retrofitted Recusant-class. Rebel One showed up in the comics, and art from the Predator upgrade in X-Wing shows both a Providence-class and Recusant-class in Rebel colors.

I really quite like the Rebel One design. Gives the impression of a Providence-class that was refitted by Mon Cal shipwrights.

The name on the other hand isn't so great...but then given "Home One" I suppose that's another Mon Cal influence.

Well considering that the Providence class ship was built by the Quarrens it is kind of funny imagining Mon Calamari workers tearing the ship apart to make it serve their purposes.

All I want for wave six, is an Assault Frigate mk1. Honestly, that's all I need to finish up my Armada buying, other than a new Campaign box to add upgrades to wave 1-4 items already released, so I can also get Thrawn and Lando in the Falcon.

You won't be able to get Lando in the Falcon without a Card Rewrite / Errata.

- Mostly because there's nothing stopping you from having BOTH Han and Lando* in the Millenium Falcon on the field at the same time....

(Because notice on the Han card, how 'Milennium Falcon' is missing the Dot before the name?)

This applies to EVERY Rogue and Villain who has a unique Ship but multiple pilots.... So no Kyle Katarn, because the Moldy Crow isn't Unique... No Kanan, because the Ghost isn't Unique... etc, etc, etc.

*Or, giving future proofing, even Rey!

MC90s seem hard to distinguish from Home One style 80s (and actually the Defiance was a 90 IIRC). Of course, that begs the question of how to differentiate them from the Liberty stat wise.

Fractalsponge (again) managed to make them look noticeably different:

In universe, there were several Defiances - one was an MC80, one was an MC90. There was a theory that, like the Starship Enterprise, it was a popular name, getting applied to a new ship each time the previous ship was destroyed.

Allegiance class Star Destroyer....that be epic :)

How many new ships does this game really need? I mean, the iconic ships are all out. Sure, a Venator and what not might be cool, but how many more capital ships does the Empire really need when you can field 2 ISDs which is, thematically, the accurate representation of the Imperial Fleet?

2 Neb-b + Liberty or Liberty + Home One..

With a point cost limit of 400 I'm staring to think that I will get disinterested in collecting large numbers of ships that, quite frankly, aren't really at the core of the Star Wars universe.

I could be wrong.. Maybe they'll keep "creating the experience" with all the new movies and what not, but if they bring in the Tector and the Resurgence then will everyone just mothball their ISDs in casual and competitive play?

It's not about making fleets that feel the most Star Wars or are movie-accurate. The game is about everyone creating their own custom Star Wars fleet with the ships they like best, and what ships they like best might not be available in the game at the moment. If they release ships that you feel don't fit the Star Wars theme you enjoy, there's nothing that says you have to purchase them. Just keep building fleets with the ships you enjoy and feel right to you.

More ships, more variety, more viable strategies, more new players who see that their favorite capital ships are in the game.

However you are still likely to encounter this ships on your opponents side, ruining you feeling too.

Not my fear but perhaps others fear so.

I think my problem with the theme vs variety issue is that Lucas seems to have opted for total uniformity when designing the Empire, i.e. Stormtroopers as footsoliders, AT-AT as tanks, Star Destroyers as carrier/battleships and Tie Fighters as, well.. fighters.

Heck, the Empire was like the old communist east European states (I know as I grew up in one).. no variety whatsoever: one detergent, one tooth paste, one... you get it :)

He wanted the Empire to appear monolithic and uniform and that's the vibe I got when I was a kid watching the original trilogy.

What FFG (and Disney) is trying to do - which makes sense business-wise - is to reshape the Empire into something like the US navy where a Star Destroye would be like an aircraft carrier supported by destroyers, frigates, corvettes and so on.

Makes a lot of sense as it allows for more product to be created and sold and gives greater variety to players and collectors.

I guess a couple of these new Imperial broadsides won't look all that bad flanking a star destroyer and protecting his rear. :)

I would love to see the Empire get Tartan Patrol Crusisers and the Rebels get Cornelian Gunships (exactly like corvettes but with conical bows instead of the hammerhead style).

they're way smaller... so flotillas?

Tartans are way bigger than corvettes - at 250m long, they're close to Nebulon-Bs in size.

Corvettes have been downsized slightly - no longer being 150m (a figure from West End Games I think), they are now considered to be 126.68m. That's a very precise figure and I wonder how they got it - possibly when creating the computer model in TCW?

Given that the Corellian Gunship has never been changed from 120m, these days it should look very close to the Corvette in size.

wait a second! no they are not they do not exist!

therefore we can make them any size we want ! HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

The MC80 Defiance was at Endor, and IIRC was the 2nd ship seen destroyed by the DSII, as the Liberty was the 1st.

While that was very common speculation - eventually material (Trading Card game) came out that confirmed that it had survived Endor:

The newcanon has named the second ship destroyed by the DS2 as Nautilian:

How about a new Core set?

From the OT, we're still missing:

-Brah'tok gunship

-"Pearly white" mon cal cruiser (a.k.a wingless liberty)

-misc weirdo tankers from ESB

- weird stick like ship from RotJ in the side pan that's to the aft of Home One

All reb ships, as the tector is obviously a poorly scaled ISD top hull! (not that I wouldn't mind one...)

The one I really want is that mon cal- I'd like to see it as a medium based AFmkII alternative (also, I just want one so I can complete my endor fleet!)

Wait..... wait....... I might sound like a moron here for just a second so bear with me..... but isn't the MC80 "Home One" expansion exactly that? I realize the paint may not be the exact same shade, but it's the same ship right?

Bottom hull, surely? You can see where the forward hangar used to be:

Compare to ISD - forward hangar and main hangar shown:

They basically just covered over the main hangar.

Nope. Here Home One is seen next to a Wingless Liberty - rather different shape and engine layout:

Huh. I never noticed a third style of Mon Cal ship at Endor.

I personally got into the game for game mechanics and to run Mon Cal ships (mostly). So gimme whatever that is and the Mon Remonda.

Until there's an official one, Mel's might work:

I would like to see the hammerhead corvette for the rebels and the stealth corvette for the imps. The stealth corvette could have a title "carrion spike" from the tarkin book.

I thought these were the same thing.

Sure would be nice to have FFG produce a more detailed design for the Carrion Spike than what the canon comics have done so far.

Which is, of course, completely different to this:

StealthShip-SWE.jpg

Of which there are numerous images, renders and even 3D Models of :D

Also a dreadnaught. That could be used by either faction (rebel on one side of the cardboard, imp on the other. Each side with different stats.)

@Ironlord, I stand corrected! That's obviously NOT a poorly scaled top hull! Though I imagine that captain would have been force choked if Vader wasn't busy with Luke for his lack of imperial discipline (seeing as how he's the only ship not in the same orientation as everyone else)

Bothan Assault Cruiser!

First Order Star Destroyer!

I think wave six will be card packs, maybe a few cross faction cardboards (nebs/cr90's), and the carriers mentioned above.

I think the issue is that FFG will have to expand beyond the OT but within the confines of commonly recognizable ships from movies and series. I agree the EU ships would be great but they will cater to a limited audience of us old farts that grew up with these movies and books. To attract new customers you need a product that they will be able to recognize off the shelf.

X wing has established its player base and through that base has the opportunity to expand to the EU ships that have come out because they have a large breath of choices availible to the players.

I would also like to see a lot more campaign modules or a published set of rules for building custom campaigns.
