In the Clone Wars series they had enough ships and screen time to fill out a nice faction. They are the only cannonical and reasonable third faction.

Prequels will stay Prequels... We may get Nods to Prequels, similar to how X-Wing got the ARC Fighter... Which was seen in the Prequels, but is being shown there as a Bunch of Old POS Fighters they found abandoned and disused and refit to use them in the OT/Aftermath Era... They're not the Clone Fighters of Old.
At this point in time, the NewCanon is too new, and too limited... I'm sure there will be more revealed as the Aftermath/Lost-Stars Train moves on to fill in more and more gaps... We know the Black Sun is still about, and we know its a Criminal Empire... We havn't been told its able to muster a fleet, but that is a potential at a later date, if that pans out... (and I'm not on board with that, either, just for the record)... But it is a possibility ...
But looking back? Much, much, much, MUCH more remote. And would cause so much uproar, in the fact that its FFG going back on their own word, that would destroy what little trust is in the corporation...
I think Shmitty said, after his interview, that they didn't have any other "Corellian Conflict" style expansions planned at the moment, but would consider them as a way to fix ships and things in the future if needed.
I want to say the Quasar-class carrier is the most likely next imperial ship to come in Wave 6, given that Fantasy Flight is pulling from the Rebels tv show. The only problem is that it would primarily focus on fighter squadrons, yet the game doesn't really need a ship that does that. Players are proving time and again that there are great ships to use as carriers (Victory's and Imperial 1-class Star Destroyer mainly). So why does the Empire need a dedicated squadron carrier ship that would likely have low offense power and poor maneuverability when the Victory and Imperial 1-class exist?
And no, I don't think the Quasar-class would be introduced as a Rebel ship instead. They just stole the one.
Headhunters are clone wars era fighters in the new canon as well as Y-Wings. I could see the rebels getting ARC-170s and Imperials getting V-Wings.
I would love to see the Empire get Tartan Patrol Crusisers and the Rebels get Cornelian Gunships (exactly like corvettes but with conical bows instead of the hammerhead style).

Fractalsponge got commissioned to do the Vindicator a while back, and has just finished a commission for the Dreadnaught-class as well.
If it's FFG that's doing the commissioning - maybe that's a hint that those are coming in future?

Dude.... FFG did say that a long time ago but that simply isn't the case any more. Right now FFG's design ethos for Star Wars is "Do exactly what Lucasfilm says to do", and if that happens to one day be Prequel Ships, then so be it. I fully expect a full line of prequel era ships. I'd bet they will make several of them turn up in SW Rebels before that show ends. I'll bet you that the Rebels find a fleet of old republic ships to use , and eventually get wiped out (explaining why we don't see them in the OT). But the OT is not even FFG's only design area. In fact, very little of what is coming out now is from the OT at all.
Most of X-Wings stuff lately has been from Rebels or The Force Awakens. Heck they've just about exhausted everything they can squeeze out of Episode 7. And the Arc 170, may not just be a "nod" to the prequels, it may in fact be the first of many ships from the prequels. Time will tell. Point is, just because they said "were only doing Episode 4,5,6 era stuff" a long time ago, doesn't mean they are stuck to doing only that forever.

Well, your first part of response there is exactly what I was talking about with the ARC... Its not a "Republic Ship" with a "Republic Faction'... Its something that's being used in the OT Era, as an OT Faction... Its a small, but distinct difference, after all...
And for 'what little trust is left' was a not-so-subtle dig at a few other posters here recently... That's all
FFG always has my vote, and I'm one to support them, and people reading the things they say...

I believe we can look to Star Wars Rebels for future wave expansions; the Quasar carrier, which could probably be fielded as a Rebel or and Imperial ship (missing SKU #) and the Hammerhead (another flotilla?) are two obvious choices.
I think the ARC 170 will make an appearance as a rebel squadron at some point. I say this because, as of Wave 5, almost all the Rebel and Imperial X-Wing craft will be represented in Armada; so it would be an easy addition, along with the K-Wing, Tie Punisher and Tie Inquisitor.
We'll see in September what new treats Star Wars Rebels will tease us with. And let's not forget that FFG has a wealth of choices for new ships in their Star Wars RPG literature. I know both of these sources for new Armada expansions have been mentioned by other forum members. I think these sources have a lot of merit because, they have to have been vetted by Disney, who, after all, owns the IP.
Personally, I would love to see a Venator, Dreadnought, Strike Cruiser and Acclamator make an appearance.

Tartans are way bigger than corvettes - at 250m long, they're close to Nebulon-Bs in size.
Corvettes have been downsized slightly - no longer being 150m (a figure from West End Games I think), they are now considered to be 126.68m. That's a very precise figure and I wonder how they got it - possibly when creating the computer model in TCW?
Given that the Corellian Gunship has never been changed from 120m, these days it should look very close to the Corvette in size.
Edited by IronlordSo, after perusing through fractalsponge's page at the cost of my phone's battery, it appears that there are plenty of ships for a wave 6 or (gasp) Armada Epic. Not the Executor, but maybe the Bellator or the Praetor.
For non-epic ships, maybe the dreadnaught.

I think that we are going to have to keep an eye on rebels for our cues, but I for one would love the MC80B (Mon Remonda) for the rebels. It's also pretty much the last large ship I think the rebels could get that is distinct enough. MC90s seem hard to distinguish from Home One style 80s (and actually the Defiance was a 90 IIRC). Of course, that begs the question of how to differentiate them from the Liberty stat wise.
I really think we will see the Quasar carriers, especially with them getting screen time in Rebels, but my question is what other large ships make sense for the Empire? Maybe Venators (could work as a budget ISD or a REALLY good carrier since it carries an ungodly number of fighters)?
Carriers could get really interesting, especially with the card from the Pelta that appears to let you launch squadrons mid-game.
I would love to see a Dreadnaught in the game, heck I'd be happy to see it in the new canon. I would also like to see the Tartan Patrol Cruiser, Acclamator, DP-20, and the two missile cruisers from Empire at War to be added so we could field everything from that game in this one.
As for prequel content I imagine we will see it in one way or the other at some point, they could release Republic and Separatist ships as two new factions with two ship cards like we have now plus a refit one for either the Rebellion or Empire factions. Or we will probably more likely see them come to the game as their OT versions, aka the Republic ships with grey scale paint schemes, and the separatist ones with Rebels insignia on them.
