Wave 6...Possible Ideas???

By ShadowFox1138, in Star Wars: Armada

What are your thoughts for it?

What do I want or what do I expect?

I'm expecting the Quasar class cruiser/carrier from rebels. I would love to get a dreadnought and/or Loronar Strike Crusier.

Assault Gunboat! Wait... not the X-Wing forum. Eeeh... Rancor! No, we're already getting a Rancor.

Aaaah... Super Star Destroyer!

I corrected that while you typed that.

Tector class star destroyers

What stat (difference) would you suggest?

Sorry, but I would have to say plese no to TFA stuff. The star destroyer from TFA is twice the size of an ISD according to canon. Even with Armada scaling it would be to big. Not to mention would have to be like 200pts and have stats worthy of the cost before upgrades. All this IMO means please no TFA stuff in armada.

I would go reduce squadron to 0-1, but give more engi and upgrade spots and +1 shields on all sides. No better weapons.

Wave six will be all cardboard and cards, mark my words...

But the Tector-class, a slightly remodelled ISD with removed hangar bays created to add more visual diversity to the ROTJ battle is ok?

Give me a break :D

Quasar for Imperials and Hammerhead for Rebels.

As much as I'd like to see 4 capital ships per wave, I just don't think it can work right now because there simply aren't enough capital ships that have been recannonized. Rebels Season 3 is going to be an important mark on what they do next. I DO expect we'll see Thrawn at some point, and considering that he is tied to so many other EU ships, it may allow many new doors to be opened for us. We MAY see Dreadnaughts in rebels, (which would be freaking awesome!), and we may even see something completely new.

If we don't get many NEW ships, then I expect we might get an Imperial Star Destroyer VARIANT model at some point, specifically the ISD1 that we see in the Rogue 1 Trailer. I'd imagine they call it "ISD Prototype" or something, to distinguish it from the regular ISD - and also allow it to possibly be cheaper and have a different function.

I also expect new titles to show up for existing ships. The Inflictor, (the crashed ISD on Jakku), the Chimaera (thrawn's from Heir to the Empire, and whatever they name in Rogue 1).

Summary - we are running out of ships, so I'd expect they do like they did with the Liberty and make a variant of an existing ship, but sell it as a whole new ship - (and I'm totally fine with that so long as it still looks cool).

We're running out of current ships, but have an active (popular) cartoon, and basically 1 movie a year for the foreseeable future...

Rebels especially seems to regularly add new ships, and I doubt that will change.

We'll hopefully have sources of ships for a long while to come.

(Also, I've liked a few of the designs from The Freemaker Adventures, so I wouldn't be against those either...)

Tector class star destroyers

What stat (difference) would you suggest?

more hull shields and attack dice 0 squadron rating and a higher point costs

Why 0 squadron? Even the tiny Cr90 and Raider have a squadron rating of 1, the flottila have even 2 despite having no hangar either.

+1-2 hull

+1-2 shields

+2 upgrade slots

+1 Engi

-2 Squadron

+~20points

would be my idea after reading both of yours.

But the Tector-class, a slightly remodelled ISD with removed hangar bays created to add more visual diversity to the ROTJ battle is ok?

Seeing as we never saw its topside, only its belly - then as long as it's still hard to tell apart from the rest of the fleet at a long distance, there's plenty of room to make it different from an ISD. Plating. Bigger guns and more of them. Slightly different brim trench notches. Maybe even a different engine layout.

Given how Disney (in regard to their approach for Star Wars) is definitely going with a Rebels-focused approach to re-canonizing certain things and expanding the background of the universe without having to shoehorn it all into a standard length feature-film (where the fit might be more awkward), I agree FFG is likely to continue down the Rebels path.

On that note, timeline wise I would expect the Quasar and the Hammerhead to show up, as they've been out long enough in Rebels that FFG could have actually designed / produced / had them approved by the mouse. I don't know if there is more, and I don't know where FFG wants to go with campaign boxes, but those two seem like low-hanging fruit on the path that FFG is already on.

Stuff FFG has already put in Age of Rebellion , might also qualify as fairly probable.

Wave 6: Blast from the Past (I guarantee that would be the article title if these ships are what they went with).

Imperial: Ventator-class and/or Acclemator-class. They fit just as well into the Imperial aesthetic of triangle ships, and they were available as ships in Empire at War. Wouldn't be a bad choice to bring into the game.

Rebel: retrofitted Providence-class ( Rebel One title) and/or retrofitted Recusant-class. Rebel One showed up in the comics, and art from the Predator upgrade in X-Wing shows both a Providence-class and Recusant-class in Rebel colors.

How many new ships does this game really need? I mean, the iconic ships are all out. Sure, a Venator and what not might be cool, but how many more capital ships does the Empire really need when you can field 2 ISDs which is, thematically, the accurate representation of the Imperial Fleet?

2 Neb-b + Liberty or Liberty + Home One..

With a point cost limit of 400 I'm staring to think that I will get disinterested in collecting large numbers of ships that, quite frankly, aren't really at the core of the Star Wars universe.

I could be wrong.. Maybe they'll keep "creating the experience" with all the new movies and what not, but if they bring in the Tector and the Resurgence then will everyone just mothball their ISDs in casual and competitive play?

After all, I think I read somewhere that there were 25,000 ISDs in the Imperial Fleet at the end of the Empire and we barely ever see anything other then them, so fielding a rag tag mix of different cruisers and dreadnaughts, while interesting from the game mechanics point of view, is sort of weird canon wise, I think

Thrawn as Admiral, Mara in whatever form. Imperial (Lancer Frigate) and Rebel anti-squad platform and Rebellion Interdictor equivalent (CC-7700).

An unapologetic EU fan.

But with wave 5, a lot of whishes have been fulfilled already. Mining the EU instead of Rebels and TFA is a wish not coming true, of course. And the game is already so good and has already so many options. Much of the rest is flavor and sentimentality, like Chewbacca, R2 and C3PO...realizing that those have it more difficult on the fleet level as opposed to xwing or IA.

It's not about making fleets that feel the most Star Wars or are movie-accurate. The game is about everyone creating their own custom Star Wars fleet with the ships they like best, and what ships they like best might not be available in the game at the moment. If they release ships that you feel don't fit the Star Wars theme you enjoy, there's nothing that says you have to purchase them. Just keep building fleets with the ships you enjoy and feel right to you.

More ships, more variety, more viable strategies, more new players who see that their favorite capital ships are in the game.

Yah. You're right :) Personally, I was waiting for the Tie Defender (played the old Tie Fighter game eons ago) so I'm guessing other will be just as eager to get a Drednaught.

In any case, I can always field my 2 ISDs regardless of what they publish. As long as the game remains balanced and viable without needing to buy the newest ships I'll be happy :)
