Revitalize the Imperial Firespray?

By NavigatorOnASpiceFreighter, in X-Wing

So, what are the chances of this happening? Imagine the firespray for the Imperials getting some love from FFG. New pilots and maybe a new Slave One title card. It could be possible. It is already happening with the Millennium Falcon.

This would be really cool if it did happen but there are a couple reasons why I think that this will not. It is a ship that doesn't seem to have any relevance with there now being a scum and villainy faction. The only reason it was made originally as an Imperial ship is because Scum wasn't around yet.

So what do you all think? Should the scum firespray get some love too? Is an Imperial firespray resurgence in the games future?

I would love the Firespray to be more competitive. As Slave I is so cool in the films with so many gadgets, it feels like that it makes it really expensive in X Wing as you pay to have all of the crew, cannon, munitions slots etc and then you have to pay even more to make use of them.

Tail gunner is an nice addition (althouhh it won't couple with any of the secondary weapon slots) and with Slave 1 title it can get LRS now, but the title doesn't feel cool enough. I'd love to see a revision for it... maybe if there is a Boba Fett film in like four years? A title which gave you a reduction on the cost of for example missiles (or bomb - you could even a title for each) would fit thematically and give it a little balance. That said it already has two titles. It probably isn't a priority compared to T65 and Starviper etc, but it's a shame something so prominent in the films is overshadowed in the game.

That said, I don't just want to complain about ships needing fixing, I'm new but I'd use them anyway for fun!

Would have been nice to have slave 1 be imperial and slave 2 be scum but so much for that cannon.

Sadly, but Firespray is goddamn OUTGUNNED by Defender. So it has not even a single niche.

It suсks at jousting, and it's feats as a dodger are even lower

Damage output doesn't really impress anyone at such a price, and damage mitigation is below the baseline.

Play defenders.

As long as FFG doesn't give it a real boost to attack power (like handling it a Defender gun title but without a price range) it won't hit tables

I was pretty surprised Smuggling Compartments weren't designed for Imp Firesprays too.

It needs some love for sure. Stat wise its not that bad. The pilots are what hold it back and my opinion Fett is underpowered in both factions. His ability is good...but it needs to be better than just good.

It's not the ability, it's the ship limitations.

it's by far among the LEAST maneuverable large ships and among the least-upgradeable ones too. With medicore damage output and awful survivability.

the ship needs love, not the pilots.

Scum Boba's ability is really good. I think the main thing holding them back is the meta.

Before TLTs and Triple Scouts, my Boba [VI, Tactician, EU, Cluster Missiles] was wreaking havoc.

Since the thing already has 2 titles why not add a ship specific mod to it. I don't know like maybe a super charged reactor card that gives it sloops at 2 speed?

Nah, the Firespray has found its scummy home. I rather get a large base combat ship for Imps. Not a shuttle to ferry someone around, not something with a easy peasy turret, but a brutal aggressor kind of deal.

Patience. Disney is doing a Boba Fett spinoff film, and I expect we'll get a new Firespray with an alternate paint scheme around that time.

Sorry had to do it lol

biggest thing about the firespray is that it's really difficult to play

large base with no native re-positioning and no 1-turn (dat table edge) makes the aux arc difficult to bring to play (all dem obstacles and ships), which imo means it's overpriced for its benefit

the difference of the aux arc on a small base v a large base (i.e 4 times smaller ) something you can't appreciate until you've played ARCs (or the SF)

It would be cool if it was better, but it was never really an Imperial ship to begin with. Scum can have it, give us Imperials a new large based ship instead ok? And enough with the shuttles for a while too...

It needs to remain competitive in both factions. It could bring a lot to the imperial side of things with a few mods/titles and it's so very close to being good in scum already.

As already mentioned, it is just inferior in most roles to other ships right now.

Here are some summarized things I've done with it in campaign mode and they make it flavorful and fun:

Mod: Prison Transport Retrofit- lose cannon and missile and bomb, gain +1 hull +1 shield, +1 crew

Crew: Imperial Contact- gain tech slot. Treat this ship as PS 12 during placement.

Title: Imperial Bounty Hunter- At the beginning of the game, gain a TL on an enemy ship. When attacking or defending, you may reroll 1 dice if you have a TL on the attacking or defending ship.

Crew: Imperial Security Bureau Officer- You may equip an extra crew card. This crew must have REBEL ONLY or SCUM ONLY. You may use the ability of that crew card once and then discard. At the end of the combat phase roll a red dice. On a crit, flip that crew face up.

Title: Silent Hunter- During placement you may choose not to place this ship. Treat this ship as PS 12 until it fires it's first shot. At the beginning of any combat phase you may place this ship touching any obstacle token then this ship performs any maneuver on it's dial ignoring obstacles this round.

----------------

There were some named crew and more pilots too. The general theme was that these ships had access to imperial tech, information, and their contracts let them manipulate set up and placement or they were just prison transports and not military vehicles. Gave it a totally different feel.

They really missed their opportunity in the Most Wanted pack. I think a title that gave it a free boost or something would have been great.

Juno Eclipse on a Firespray.

A title that gives illicit slot and reduces the cost of a mod by 2

A unique Firespray only mod that gives the option to red sloop instead of bank

They both need to be better, cos it's the best looking ship in the game (maaaaaaybe second, once the ARC is out).

It should have a second crew slot, maybe at the expense of the cannon slot? You should certainly be able to take a Reb. Captive as well as a Rec. Spec. for example.

Nah, FS loves the BR more than boost, but for an unknown reason the mod is "small ship only"

a large vulnerable ship needs to burst out impressive dakka, but nope, the double-tap title (yes, the one that's epicly worse than the second one) went to the defender.

I agree, this amazing ship is cannon and it was the bomb. It could track and easily keep up or loose the Falcon, outgun Imperial ships to be sure and did have one of the best pilots at the helm. being in the game only about a year, I have the Imp Spray but cannot find a good fit for it in squads.

It's a shame.

It does need to be brought up to it's cannon level....arguably it should be the best ship in the collection.

I really think the Imperial Firespray has been dropped from design consideration since the implementation of the Scum faction... and I'm okay with that. They now have the TIE/sf, Defenders, and other ships designed to do their thing.

If it's not someone wearing an imperial uniform and holding some position in the chain of rank, then they're not designed and intended to be in the Empire's fleet.

Backdraft is your new firespray :P

bit more fragile but 4 times smaller, comes with native barrel-roll, and hits PS 9 with FCS for 3 points cheaper than a naked bounty hunter

Lots of ships need a little love.

Firespray (Scum Firespray needs a lil help. Imperial Firespray needs way more help)

T-65

E-Wing

Scyk

K-Fighter (Not a lot, but for sure a 'lil)

TIE Punisher

TIE Phantoms who aren't Whisper

Starviper

Honestly, I was thinking about Imperial large base ships the other day and wondering why they only had two options. Imperial Firespray is so far behind that I literally forgot it was a thing.

I've said it before and I'll continue bore everyone with it, but Vectored Thrusters should probably have said "Small Ship and Firespray Only". BR is a bit better reposition for the Firespray than boost since the Firespray already has the problem of moving too fast, and the added discount of having a reposition at 2pts rather than 4pts would have been pretty nice.

...oh well. I'm sure someday every ship will be perfectly balanced and highly competitive. Right? ...right?!! *sigh*

But do you really want to use the cannon on a Firespray? Bombs, maybe (though I'm not a fan personally).

I kinda like an HLC on scum Kath, so that there's no hiding from her, but I doubt it's worth the price, competitively speaking.

It doesn't matter if you think the firespray should be scum only. Fact of the matter is its available for both factions, and if a ship has been designed for a faction, you cannot ignore it just because it's also available in another faction. It's an option for imperials, so it would be nice for it to be something to consider when designing imperial fleets. Rather than just the same old tie fighters and defenders

You like the scum variation, I do to, but imperial players have the right to have a ship that was released for imperial to be more playable. Like it or not it's out for both factions therefore if it's lacking for one side more than the other than it should have an update of some sort.

What the firespray needs is more greens, a one turn, a boost or barrel roll, and possibly a way for better action economy. Of coarse not all at once. Maybe a free evade some how

What I'd like to see is a revised boba Fett for imperial. Even back in wave 3 I was very disappointed with his ability, and since Poe got a revised card, so should others
