I don't think we're gonna get one up this Friday, the holidays are making filming difficult. But I think you will all love the next game. It has one of my favorite lists I've ever built. Until then, Happy Holidays everyone!

We have one going up this friday! First video of the new year, and its a cool one. Matt's flying a slightly refined version of his scum list from a couple videos back, switching out Ketsu Onyo for Asajj Ventress with a Ketsu crew member. I am flying a pure TIE swarm, 6 TIEs in total, and not all crack shot TIEs either. Almost all of my TIEs have a pilot ability and they all have something special to bring to the table. We hope you enjoy this one! Here are the lists:

Evan:

"Youngster" (19): TIE Fighter (15), Expose (4)

"Backstabber" (16): TIE Fighter (16)

"Howlrunner" (20): TIE Fighter (18), Swarm Tactics (2)

"Scourge" (18): TIE Fighter (17), Crack Shot (1)

"Wampa" (14): TIE Fighter (14)

Academy Pilot (12): TIE Fighter (12)

Matt:

Asajj Ventress (44): Lancer Pursuit Craft (37), Inertial Dampeners (1), Ketsu Onyo (1), Intimidation (2), Shadow Caster (3)

Fenn Rau (32): Protectorate Starfighter (28), Outmaneuver (3), Concord Dawn Protector (1)

Syndicate Thug (24): Y-Wing (18), TLT (6)

Well our game was mysteriously released what appears to be 12 hours early. Whoops. Anyway it's up now so enjoy! Also we're planning to bust out a couple commentaries this weekend so we should have more videos for you soon! Stay tuned!

Alright everyone! We'll have a new game up this week! We're actually starting a small series of games using the same lists, where we're trying to learn their strengths and weaknesses and make some small tweaks to them over a couple games. You've already seen the first iteration of our lists, I'm flying my Hera/Jan list, and Matt's flying the Shadowcaster/Protectorate/Y-Wing list. I'm excited to show these games because I think they showed some real progress in our understanding and showed some clear mistakes one game that we correct in the future. Anyway, enough of my jibber jabber. Here are the lists!

Matt:

Asajj Ventress (44): Lancer Pursuit Craft (37), Inertial Dampeners (1), Ketsu Onyo (1), Intimidation (2), Shadow Caster (3)

Fenn Rau (32): Protectorate Starfighter (28), Outmaneuver (3), Concord Dawn Protector (1)

Syndicate Thug (24): Y-Wing (18), TLT (6)

Evan:

Ezra Bridger (20): Attack Shuttle (20), Phatom (0)

Jan Ors (32): HWK-290 (25), Intelligence Agent (1), Twin Laser Turret (6)

Hera Syndulla (48): VCX-100 (40), Ghost (0), Autoblaster (2), Navigator (3), Nien Numb (1), Fire Control System (2)

I appreciate these lists. Thanks for posting them.

I appreciate these lists. Thanks for posting them.

Absolutely! Thanks for saying so, we love getting feedback. If you have any suggestions about the videos we love those too!

The game is up! Let us know what you think!

I went to an X-Wing tournament in Brislington on the 8th January this year. It was an epic one, and I lost both games. I'm relatively new to X-Wing, and I would appreciate any help.

BTW I flew:

  • Imperial Raider
  • 8x Academy Pilot TIE fighters
  • 2x Glaive Squad. TIE defenders
  • Howlrunner TIE fighter

Well, I hope you've all enjoyed our most recent game. We've got something cool to share with you! Normally sometime around Monday I'd try to let you know what the game would be on Friday, to give you a little taste of what's to come. This week is a little different! We have a new game coming out this Tuesday in addition to a game this Friday! So I'll give you the list for Tuesday right now and after Tuesday I'll give you the list for Friday. Here you go!

Squad Lists:

Evan:

Ezra Bridger (20): Attack Shuttle (20), Phatom (0)

Jan Ors (32): HWK-290 (25), Intelligence Agent (1), Twin Laser Turret (6)

Hera Syndulla (48): VCX-100 (40), Ghost (0), Autoblaster (2), Navigator (3), Nien Numb (1), Fire Control System (2)

Matt:

Hey! Sorry I didn't see your message, I posted my last post without refreshing the page haha. I'll say now I haven't played an epic match yet, but I do know the rules and understand the game well enough to give a little advice.

First up in advice is your list. I really like what you have going here. It's got a clear TIE swarm theme, with all the Academy TIEs and Howlrunner. And the Glaive Sq. Pilots are good for some variety, they pack a little more punch on the attack, can take a hit on the defense, and have that excellent white K-turn. All I'd say here is consider switching the Academy TIEs for Black Sq. TIEs. That's 2 points more per TIE. The reason is that they have an Elite Talent slot, which is excellent for Crack Shot. For the 96 points you spent on the Academy TIEs you can get 6 Black Squadron TIEs with Crack Shot and have 6 points left over. When paired with Howlrunner these TIEs will be much more deadly on offense vs ships with a little more agility (other TIEs, E-Wings, A-Wings, etc). They also have a higher pilot skill so hopefully they'll take out some of your opponent's low PS ships (their Academy TIEs for example) before they fire in your first encounter.

I don't know what upgrades you may have had on your ships but those are key to victory in my opinion. You probably had some stuff on there and just didn't list it, but I'll just let you know some of what I might have put on. Like with Crack Shot, you need something on your other ships. Howlrunner would benefit from a Swarm Tactics or a Squad Leader or something, the Glaive Sq. Pilots I'd add maybe the TIE x/7 title and then give them both Juke. With those upgrades your Defenders will cost the same as not having any upgrades but will be substantially more powerful.

Another thing, you have to make sure you've got your maneuvers down. With all those ships out there fighting each other, you need to know exactly where your ships are going to end up. Taking some time to practice that is useful. One way is to set up a mat with some asteroids on it, then set your ships down and take a few "turns" setting your dials and taking those maneuvers, flying through the asteroids. Another is to put a ship down and set its dial, then set another ship down exactly where you think it will end up. Then place the maneuver template down and see how far off you are. Anyway, that fundamental skill will improve your game by a ton if you're newer to the game.

The last two things I'll say are this. When you see your opponents list, make a strategy in your head to take it down. If you see a palpatine ship (either a shuttle or if he's on an epic ship or something) and you're worried it will affect the game, set up a strategy around taking it down first. If you think you can stay out of range of your opponents epic ship and make their squad come to you (hopefully in range of your epic ship) do that. Basically tell yourself how the game is going to go in advance and see how close you can make the game play out to that ideal scenario. And finally, get good at predicting your opponents moves. Anticipate your opponents blocks, figure out where they're going to fly their aces and block them, etc. That takes a little time to get used to, but one of the ways I get better at that was to watch youtube videos (like ours, yay!). Try to figure out where the people in the video will move their ships and see if you're correct! I hope this helped some.

Edit:

Two more things I just thought of, maneuvering swarms of TIEs is very different from normal maneuvering. You don't want your ships bumping into each other and losing actions, so work on setting up your ships and then making them all take the same maneuver, see if they end up bumping, then change their starting position and see if that helps. And the last thing, Quickdraw, the TIE/sf pilot, might be excellent in epic play (his free title and his pilot ability give him a lot of attack potential). He'll be a high value target and your opponent will try to take him down fast, but he just might get enough damage on your opponent before getting destroyed that it will be worth it. Maybe instead of a Defender? That last one is totally up to your preference, it's just a ship I think I'd like using.

The new game is up! Enjoy!

We've got a new video coming this Friday! It's the last in our little miniseries we have been showing where we used the same lists in order to prepare for a local tournament. So far, I've won one game and Matt has won one. So this game is for all the marbles! We have both learned a lot and hopefully so have all of you. It's up! We hope you enjoy! I'm excited to tell you about next week's video, but more about that on Monday. Until then, SummoNerds out!

Alright everyone, this upcoming Friday we have a cool new video for you. We went to a local tournament in December (a little over a month ago) and we've been trying to figure out how to use the footage we got from that to bring you the best and most useful content possible. We recorded four games, 3 that I played and one that Matt played. We had never done a local tournament before, much less attempted to record one for the channel, so there were a few technical hiccups also. In the end, we decided that we would show you all 4 games in one video (!) hitting the highlights and overall strategies of each game, along with the lessons we learned. It took a while to get up but I'm glad we are finally getting to show it to you. It will be up this Friday at noon EST.

Also, as we will say in the video, we would love feedback on the format of the tournament summary video. We plan on doing more local tournaments in the future and if they are useful to you we would love to film them. We just need to know what you like about this upcoming video and what changes/improvements you think need to be made so that we can bring you the most useful and entertaining videos we can. Thanks everyone, until then, SummoNerds out!

The new video is up, we hope you like it!

I wasn't sure if we'd get a new video up this week so I hadn't posted the lists yet, but the video is being stitched together as I type! So here are the lists!

Evan:
Dengar (60): Jumpmaster 5000 (33), Punishing One (12), Glitterstim (2), Countermeasures (3), Zuckuss (1), Overclocked R4 (1), Ion Torpedos (5), Extra Munitions (2)
Manaroo (38): Jumpmaster 5000 (27), R5-P8 (3), Gonk (2), Plasma Torpedoes (3), Push the Limit (3)

Matt:
The Inquisitor (31): TIE Advanced Prototype (25), TIE v/1 (1), Push the Limit (3), Autothrusters (2)
Colonel Vessery (37): TIE Defender (35), TIE x/7 (-2), Outmaneuver (3), TIE Mk. II (1)
Omicron Group Leader (32): Lambda Shuttle (21), Emperor Palpatine (8), ST 321 (3)

Obviously I'm flying Dengaroo. Surprisingly this is it's first appearance on the channel, but we've needed to show some games with it given it's important place in the meta. I'm not sure if my build was optimal but, let's be honest, any Dengaroo list is pretty good so long as you have the staples. Matt is flying a cool combo-hybrid-two-things-at-once list. It's both Palp Aces and Palp Defenders, with a dash of extra originality in that the Shuttle has it's title! That helps Vessery out a lot in his alpha strike, but also makes the shuttle a slightly more tempting target because of his points. We hope you enjoy it!

We also included a quick channel update at the end of the video if you want to know what we're doing in the near future. Thanks!

The new video is up! See you soon!

Looks like we won't be able to meet in time to put a video together this week. I'll post again later this week when I know what we'll be able to show next time!

Edited by Crimson36

I'm not positive when we'll get the next video up, but I'll give you a quick peek at what it will be anyway! We apparently forgot a game we'd played and skipped from game 16 to 18. We will go ahead and commentate game 17, which had Matt updating his scum list (The Dawn Caster) by switching out his Y-Wing for Manaroo. I'm still using my Holy Hera list, though pretty soon I'll be trying out some new things. It's a pretty fun game, hopefully you'll think so too. Here are the lists!

Evan:

Ezra Bridger (20): Attack Shuttle (20), Phatom (0) Adaptability (0), "Chopper" (0)

Jan Ors (31): HWK-290 (25), Adaptability (0), Twin Laser Turret (6)

Hera Syndulla (49): VCX-100 (40), Ghost (0), Autoblaster (2), "Chopper" (0), "Zeb" Orrelios (1), Fire Control System (2), Engine Upgrade (4)

Asajj Ventress (40): Lancer Pursuit Craft (37), Attanni Mindlink (1), Latts Razzi (2)

Fenn Rau (32): Protectorate Starfighter (28), Fearless (1), Concord Dawn Protector (1), Autothrusters

Manaroo (28): Jumpmaster 5000 (27), Attanni Mindlink (1)

After a surprisingly long time, we're back with the previously promised game! We hope you enjoy it. We'll get the others out asap!

We have a new video up this week! It's another tournament video, multiple games in one! We hope you like it. Also sorry I didn't announce this one in advance, it's been a busy workweek. We'll have another normal video up before too long. Thanks!
