Quick Question

By fcwesel, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

What is the absolute maximum number of Health a player character could have? And strain?

Thanks.

Technically, there is no limit, as you can continue to take ranks in Toughened or Grit indefinitely.

Therefore, the practical limit is the number of ranks in those talents that exist. So...give me about three minutes and I can give you the totals as they exist right now, assuming you had access to literally EVERY spec.

EDIT:

Okay, here goes:

WOUNDS

There are 60 specs so far with ranks in Toughened, and a total of 98 ranks, for a total bonus of +196 to your wound threshold. Since you can have a maximum Brawn of 6 (cybernetics don't increase your threshold) and a Wookiee has a species base of 14, that's a maximum potential Wound Threshold of 216.

STRAIN

There are 71 specs with ranks of Grit and a total of 141 ranks so far. That gives a +141 bonus to your strain threshold - with a Willpower of 6 and a maximum species bonus of (I think) 13, you could potentially have a strain threshold of 160.

Now, keep in mind, this is using only the specs we have so far. There are between 12 and 21 additional specs still to come. Currently there are 87 specs, of which 6 are repeats, so of the possible specs that could be repeats we shouldn't be expecting more than 1 additional repeat, so let's say we've got 20 specs left.

Just based on averages, we'd expect 13.79 to have ranks in Toughness at 1.63 ranks per spec, and 16.32 to have ranks in Grit at 1.99 ranks per spec. So, on average, we might expect another 22.53 ranks in Toughness and another 32.41 ranks in Grit. Rounding, that's +23 ranks in Toughness and +32 ranks in Grit. So our theoretical maximums once the entire line is finished (excluding potential new Universal specs) would be:

Max Wound Threshold: 262

Max Strain Threshold: 192.

Please keep in mind that those calculations for potential extra ranks are using only base averages across lines. I wanted to do this quickly, so I didn't weight the numbers based on which lines the upcoming books were for; if I had, then the number of ranks of Toughness would probably be lower and the ranks of Grit higher, as that's the weight for Force books, of which we still need four.

Why?

Of course just of buy that last spec would take 600 xp the xp spent on specs alone would in the 10s of thousands never mind the xp to buy the ranks in toughened on top of that. Effectively at 20 xp per session even playing two times a week you'd be dead of old age before you got close

What is the XP cost for all those wounds?

...Please don't make me do that.

In fact, please don't even MENTION it, because if it gets in my head I'll have to do it, and I really don't want to...

What is the XP cost for all those wounds?

I think that falls into the category of "don't ask questions you don't really want to know the answer to!"

Wookiee raid boss. Drops epic gear.

...Seriously, 262?! He'd stand there and bellow in anger as a turbolaser hits him!

Pffh, my YT 1300's got 220.

Just made me wonder: How many ranks of Enduring are there, by the way? And what is your maximum Soak?

okay, so the big money question is: what would it cost to buy all those trees and buy down to those talents?

...please, my dad's memorial is today. I don't want that question stuck in my head, and I really don't want to go through the work of calculating it.

But OCD will not give me the choice if you keep asking...

Ab, you made my day with those possible, but ridiculous numbers.

Call me Phee if you must; it's my IRL nickname. "Ab" sounds like I'm part of a muscle group or something...

And of you want to thank me, then by God stop replying to this thread, just for today! I can't not check it, and every time I do the chance of getting that **** question stuck in my head goes up exponentially...

At 21,785 XP, if you started with 100 XP and earned 15 XP a session (which is a bit generous) it would take 1,446 sessions to get to that point. If you played 1 session a week, that would take almost 28 years. That's one long campaign!

Game's been out for 3 years (not including beta) so we meet back here in 2041 to compare notes and se how we did!

Anyone volunteering to start said 28 year campaign?

The longest campaign I ever did was a 8 year game. We started a couple of months after Phantom Menace came out with our Old Republic Padawan game and we ran concurrently with the prequels, wrapping up about 2006 or so. 28 years? Man, I cant imagine playing one game that long!

That said, a massive sprawling generational epic starting in KotOR and wrapping up in the NeoLegacy era would be kind of cool. . . .

There was a regular member on these boards about a year back named JosepMaria whose group may have been the closes to those numbers in XP. I doubt any one of his players were purposely stacking Toughness and Grit, but I bet their numbers were high.

Sorry to hear of your loss, your efforts are very appreciated here for ALL the number crunching you do.

Thanks guys, and once again I apologize. I was just really hoping not to have my OCD triggered today of all days. But the question was asked twice (and the person even quoted me directly the second time), and as always I just couldn't stop myself. If it had been any other day it probably wouldn't have bothered me nearly as much - heck, it didn't take me as long as I thought it would.

But I really, REALLY didn't want to do it. However, knowing that it was only a mater of time, all I wanted was for it not to be today. But of course, I lost that battle once again...It's one I lose too often...

EDIT: But hey, the post got me to over my first 1,000 Likes, so that's something. Silver lining and all that.

Although in my defense, I read the first post, asked the question from there and didnt scroll down into the conversation to see that you had other things on your plate at the time. By the time I did, the damage was done. Had I noticed, I would have told you to blow me off. Family uber alles.
