Fusion Blades

By Leximoor, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

Hi

I just like some others and Gm's to clarify me as a GM how you would properly use Fusion Blades, since they list it as a melee weapon but with a Fusion Blaster profile as an option, so say for example a character somehow found one on a battlesuit using the battlesuit, they charge into close combat since they took the mindset to take enemy by surprise. Say they want to use the fusion blaster, should they have to take a half action to switch its mode, a free action?

Also if one person does a shooting action, and want to switch to use the Fusion blade profile should they also use a half or free actions for this?

I ask this since after reading a bit too much into the melee profile and not able to find a Tau Errata available, the weapon when parried could be destroyed by a Power Field weapon, I would make the argument that its a pure energy blade on the weapon itself in that mode could not be broken. But could you even parry a weapon?

Any ideas on this?

-There's no action to swap profiles. All you need to do to use either the Fusion Blade or the Fusion Blaster is to say so when you're declaring parameters (as with firing modes and targets) for some sort of attack action.

-By RAW, yes a Power Field weapon can destroy a Fusion Blade. That said, generally everyone knows this, and thus the situation isn't so much "Power Field weapons destroy non-Power Field weapons in parries" but instead "Power Field weapons don't get parried by non-Power Field weapons in the first place". (If you like, you could just houserule that it sputters out pending repairs instead of being destroyed.)
