Wave 3 & 4 Availability

By Forresto, in Star Wars: Armada

I just recently got into Armada a month ago and i've been really getting into the paces of it. However I can't seem to find any gaming stores or hobby shops reasonably near me. Does anyone know when websites such as Amazon will start selling the most recent waves?

Street Date for them was the 11th of August. its entirely possible that original runs have been sold out.

If you like, you could give us a basic bead of where you are, and I'm sure someone would suggest options for you....

Been wondering the same. Wherabouts do you live? There's a great Vassal Community in this group. They'd love a new player to join in. You won't find a more inclusive group of reptiles....ahem...I mean gentlemen anywhere.

Thanks for the quick responses. I live near DC.

Out of curiosity what is a vassal community?

Whoa! DC!? Oh man. Are you right outside the city on either the Maryland or Virginia side? We've got quite the group out here.

Vassal is a way to play online. I think the others can explain it better.

I'm on the edge of the city toward Maryland. I had absolutely no idea there would be that's great!

There should be some shops in Silver Spring or Gaithersburg. Also there are shops up near Elicott City MD, outside Baltimore. There's Labyrinth in DC. Victory Comics in Falls Church. Out here in NoVA, we have Huzzah, and Island as primary spots. You should go to Nova Open in September too. Great way to meet folks here. There's also Nova Fleet on Facebook, and if you want a podcast, there is Intensify Forward Firepower. They occasionally drag themselves out of the mire to do shows.

Thanks for the list I will definitely check several places out.

Is the NoVA open free to attend?

I'm pretty sure IFF is quitting to devote time to their greeblehauling side gig.

Second vote for Nova Fleet =)

I do know at least two stores over on the VA side are sold out (cause I can't find a Gozanti...), so it may be just a bit before they restock.

I also just saw a request on the no a fleet page looking for an opponent at Games and Stuff or Cardboard gaming. I think those are both over on the Baltimore side. Also Huzzah Hobbies is running a tournament this weekend.

Thanks for the list I will definitely check several places out.

Is the NoVA open free to attend?

It's definitely worth a look at their page though - novaopen.com

(Disclaimer - I've never been to the Open, but have heard nothing but good things)

I am going to the Nova Open. I believe you have to buy a con pass, and then the Armada tournament is a little bit of cash on top of that. http://www.novaopen.com/

So this is deja vu. I walked by Labyrinth maybe a year or two ago and I never realized it was a game store. At first glance I thought it was just a puzzle store I may have to drop by now that I know.

Podcasts seem pretty time intensive to do so i'm not surprised.

It isn't, but I think it's $20 for a day? The Armada tournament is Thursday and Friday.

I'm still learning the game myself so I may wait for when I get some actual experience to join a larger tournament. However it's really nice to know there's a large community so close by that seems pretty active. I look forward to eventually battling people.

No problem! Welcome to the community!

*cough* 3rd best selling Miniature game in the US *Cough*

Yup Armada is dying :P

Welcome to the forums! You wont find a bigger hive of scum and villainy. . . well unless you go to the X-Wing side. . . seriously. . . dont do it. . . ^_~

In and around DC you should definietly have options and it looks lie players have already started chiming in. That said, the first place to always check is Facebook. Nearly every gaming group I'm aware of has some sort of generalized facebook group for meeting players and organizing events, so check for armada groups near you.

Vassal is an online boardgame simulator. Not an Armada simulator, a boardgame simulator, with user-created modules for individual games. It's free to use and a few members around here work on updating the Armada module with the newest stuff. It can be very awkward to learn and frankly the game is nowhere near as fun as actually meeting people at your local store, but if you enjoy the game and don't have options you can play off against players from around the world. In the tournament running so far, I've played off against an Australian, a Scottsman, and some Americans from halfway across the country in addition to others from all over. If you want to learn how to use vassal, I'd recommend skipping the official documents and asking someone to teach you, especially if you have a microphone.

In Glenn Burnie MD there is Games and Stuff. Always stocked and good people.

Yeah for a game that's "dying" it sure does sell like crazy!

I literally helped my FLGS unpack the boxes from the distributor. I think he got 6 of each SKU. Naturally I walked out with 2 of each ship and 3 of each flotilla and the next day he told me he was completely sold out.

This is in a city where I can barely find someone else to play with and I'm struggling to get a tournament scene going...

yeah, Armada is dead. Right.

You got the same setup of 3/4 I did ^_^

My FLGS is new so they usually have stock left but Armada sells at a decent pace for them.

I (chose to) to travel an hour one way to get my Wave 4.

Local store didn't bother getting any in... whatever, his loss. I understand a little bit; nobody plays locally. It's a waste of capital if he buys stuff that doesn't sell. But I told him I was ready to buy one of each weeks in advance.

If you told him you were going to buy it he is a rank idiot for not ordering it in for you unless there are minimums (which I know for a fact is not the case in Canada, not sure about the states)
