Early release tounry legality

By Lyianx, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So i'm pretty sure i know the answer to this, but some got to buy an early release of Wave 9. Would i be correct in assuming that they would not be legal to use in a tournament until official release?

Any tournament you play in between now and when they're officially legal is probably going to be a Casual-tier event, so the effective answer is going to be "it's up to the Tournament Organizer". I think they're supposed to announce ahead of time if they're deviating from the official legal product list, though.

Define 'casual-tier'? The one coming up is for the FFG Summer Kit.

Officially, per the FAQ, new wave(s) are legal 11 days after official release. An official release is noted as having the "In Stores Now" web posting on the FFG website.

Now, here, we had an event last weekend (Summer Kit). Wave 9 was legal, and players could proxy upgrades (but not ships). That way people who didn't go to GenCon could use some of the new wave.

"Casual-Tier" is anything that isn't a Store Championship and higher.

Did the 11 day rule always exist, or is it a recent change?

Relatively recent.

There are three tiers of competitive play: Relaxed (aka Casual), Formal and Premiere. Season kits are generally Relaxed/Casual, while the others are reserved for Store Champs, Regionals, and so on.
I would follow digitalbusker's advice and check with your TO.

So Anybody know how many people actually got to buy the Starfighter and Shadowcaster?

OR - when they will be officially released?

All it says on the FFG product page is "On the Boat."

Last year I know they limited it because they only had so many with them. I think it was like 250 of each ship...

OR - when they will be officially released?

Should be fairly soon now. IIRC it went on the boat towards the end of July, so that means sometime in Sept. It's typically about 8 weeks from when they update to On the Boat until it's in stores.

Relaxed and Formal Tier tournaments: All product is legal in North America upon the product's official release.

Premier Tier tournaments: All product is legal in North America 11 days—typically the second Monday—after the product's official release. This allows players at these high-profile tournaments sufficient time to acquire and prepare with each new release.

Check with your TO, but as of today they are not legal in any FFG tournament.
