So, I tracked this down again, because I liked the idea, and you put up your allies thread.

Looking at the grid, I keep feeling like it is imbalanced. Then I struck upon this:

Move Resistance to Neutral Light, and Alliance to Free Light.

Now, all of the movie bad guys are in the bottom row, and all the movie good guys are in the top row.

AND, the opposing forces in each movie are across the grid from each other.

Balance Unification could be corporations and entities that refuse to pick a side for business reasons but want strong government or will not oppose the current government (the Corporate Sector, Cloud City, the Hapan Consortium)

Balanced Freedom are independent organizations that fight for civil rights over political affiliation (e.g., the Trianni Rangers, Sector Rangers, the Jedi.)

Maybe, then again I'd figure Mandalorian would be balanced unification and Jedi would be neutral light. But you do get the overall difficulty of the politics of the subfactions. I put Alliance in Balanced because at the time they had no Jedi were Resistance was actively looking for Jedi, not just some desperate leader hoping to utilize a favor.

Some type of Alliance would be necessary for a new faction to come in to make up for the lack of selection with ships, and pilots, also faction specific upgrades would be needed to separate the new factions from the established ones. To be honest X-wing has no alliance system, the primary factions are the factions and currently (unless you use the Allies and Mercenaries format) the subfactions are just flavor. So with clone war factions you either

  1. Place them in a Primary Faction
  2. Make a separate primary faction with ability to ally with a subfaction.

Both options have their own hurdles to overcome and if you put hem in haphazardly it would either break the game, or become dead factions. However that is just for adding factions from clone wars. There really is no hurdle to adding ships from clone wars other than just determining which currently existing primary faction to put them in.

Personally, I'd have to agree with the idea of running the CIS and Republic as independent factions. The Resistance and the First Order already make it so that regardless of how I play my fluffy battles at home, there's always the possibility of going to a tournament and facing Darth Vader and Kylo Ren cruising around together to fight Biggs and Corran Horn. Further, we also have Asajj Ventress running in Scum, and she died BEFORE the end of the Clone Wars. So, timeline is already shot.

Further, I'd expect the droid fighters to offer some new mechanics to reflect the different type of intelligence, and the fact the fighter IS the pilot. I'd expect some spectacular maneuvering and repositioning, but overall less durability than TIEs. To include the fluff of droid control ships, you might even seen a complete lack of uniques, few if any pilot abilities, and a similarly scant selection of EPT equippable ships. Meanwhile, the Jedi in the Eta Actis and Delta-7 would be almost pure ace material. I could imagine things like a generic Jedi Pilot or Padawan, but I'd almost rather see the Jedi fighters treated much like the ARC for the Civil War era; nothing but uniques.

The ARCs, Clone War Ys and so forth would of course have generic pilots as well as aces like Oddball.

And, PLEASE, if FFG ever does this, DO NOT base our game stats for Anakin on "That's a neat trick" Ep. I Anakin, but instead give us soon-to-be Darth Vader Anakin who flew in the Battle of Coruscant.

Jar Jar crew should be a 2 point crew upgrade that allows the owner to take a stress token with no apparent benefit, and allows you to remove a stress token after executing a red maneuver. (Of course, unless you can borrow Hera from the Rebel faction, you probably won't be executing red maneuvers while you have stress, so again, Jar Jar is appropriately useless.)
