Petition for Play Mat from GenCon

By unlimitedpower, in Mansions of Madness

Hoping to gain momentum/interest in FFG making available for purchase the play mat used at the GenCon demos for MoM 2nd edition. Really helps me get immersed and for those less into the game, helps keep things organized easily.

Please sign if you are interested in purchasing the play mat.

Thanks!

Got any pics of it??

Have you tried mailing them and ask if they plan on releasing those for the street market?

Given that mats are print on demand now... yeah. :D Though would it be big enough for the later scenarios? (Still haven't opened them)

Signed! I love the immersion and it helps my less enthusiastic play partners stay in sync.

Also interested in pictures of the mat.

Pics please!

That's pretty cool!

I'm hoping that they'll give some away at Arkham Nights this year. I was super fortunate last year in that my friend who went with me won one of the "Under the Pyramids" Eldritch Horror playmats, and since he doesn't own Eldritch (my favorite game), he gave me the mat.

I may have some time over the next few days to work on trying to replicate that mat (or come up with some alternate designs). Looks like the mat they have is roughly a 4ft square.

What standard sizes does everyone think would be ideal?

Most of the games I have played have been on a 6ft long x 30in wide folding table. There isn't quite enough room to let the tiles and investigator cards fit in the width. We normally end up moving stuff to the long sides as needed. The house/map always has fit though. 36x36 would probably be my lower end, though I don't know if 48x48 would really be needed. My table options are somewhat limited - if I had a 48in wide table then I would probably want the full size. Not sure if that helps, just tossing out some of my thoughts. I did see the map at Gen Con but didn't really take stock of it at the time, so have to rely on video/pictures that are on the web.

Put this together today; it's not exactly like the one featured in the video but it's close.

There is some artwork along one or two sides of the mat in the video for which I cannot locate any similar source file. Looks like some cultists in a circle; anyone seen it anywhere?

This is a low-res sample of the 4'x4' mat.

Looking at options for printing something like this, I'm looking at VistaPrint's vinyl banners. Here's a 30x48 version.

I don't know how appropriate these are for your custom play mat, but I just uploaded a handful of HPL images that I've snagged to my harddrive over the years. I've never seen the cultist image shown in the GenCon video, but suspect some of these would work instead. You can probably find more with some simple Google searches on terms like "Lovecraft Art" and any derivitaves.

BTW, I think that cultist image is on page 16 of the Learn to Play manual.

Yep, I'd also extracted it and fiddled with adding it to the mat. Didn't come out too great so far, but I've got a few ideas on how it might integrate better.

I'm assuming there is another piece of artwork on the opposite side of the map, but I don't know for sure.

Thanks for the link to those HPL images. May not be that useful for the mat, but those are some great images.

I had a mat printed up with VistaPrint, and I'm fairly pleased with how it came out.

Did you go for the vinyl banner in the end or something else? I'd like to do the same thing and your picture looks great.

What's that I spy on the last page of the just-released FAQ document!? :-)

Hopefully, the resolution will be good enough for your mat?

Haha, fair enough. I fiiiigured, but wasn't sure. :)
