Price markup for Restricted Items

By jarick098, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Is there a specific markup for restricted items in the CRBs? All I've been able to find is that they " may cost far more ".

Is there a general rule you guys use?

Also, on the topic of markets...

How do you handle the use of threats and despair during your Negotiation rolls to haggle the prices for items? Threats increase the price?

I believe the mark up is at the GM's discretion and can vary from world to world and sector to sector. Also items not marked as restricted could be restricted on a local basis by the

GM.

I just have a rule of thumb that the more restrictive law enforcement is on any given planet, the more people will have to pay for black market/restricted stuff. I figure anything between 150% and 500% of listed price, depending on local circumstances.

So far I've only had one PC attempt to haggle a purchase, which was for a reinforced shield generator.

He got a few Successes but also got a Despair.

So he got a really good price but later found out that it was defective.

In my experience, "may cost far more" doesn't refer to credits.

Keep in mind that the prices listed in the books for restricted items would be the normal price that you would pay for it.

But since these are restricted, you are more prone to instances of someone trying to make you pay more if on a planet where such restrictions are enforced.

Example:

Goes to buy restricted blaster from Jawas on an uncivilized outer rim planet that isn't controlled by the Empire, normal price. Buying restricted item from a stormtrooper looking to make a quick credit... it may cost more.

Also, I highly agree with 'HappyDaze' about the costing more part not being an increase in credits.

Yes I also think the mark-up price is up to the GM, but also to the circumstances and Location. On Nar Shaddaa where literacy nothing is illegal, restricted gear is not that hard to come by, on highly controlled planets it is really hard and pricy. On the other Hand, getting a weapon on Alderaan is probably really difficult and pricy.

I think that depends on how many bits and pieces you want it blown up into. ;)

Be careful not to mark something up just because it has a high rarity "number". The price listed in the book has it's rarity already factored in.

Threats either increase the price, as you said, or they prolong the transaction; i.e. it takes time to find a vendor, or there is a delivery time. Whatever annoys them better.

Despair, well, might stir up unwanted attention or determine a hidden fault, to be detected at the most appropriate time. I normally just "store" them, to be revealed when needed.

For my group, we homebrew that anything restricted gets an automatic upgrade to difficulty (we often shop in-between sessions, so Destiny isn't available).
