Kylo Ren's Shuttle/Upsilon-Class + Coordinate action = Palp Aces getting even better?!?!

By SpikeSpiegel, in X-Wing

So this assumes Soontir is not stressed already right? Because I thought coordinate gives a free action. You can't do free actions when stressed. Leaving Soontir unstressed at any time near range is never a good idea in my experience.

He wouldnt be stressed.

Coord for an action at PS lower than his. He does an action, immediately PTL's for a 2nd and gets a stress and a focus. He activates, does a green move, clears stress and does a third action. Hes not stressed.
It does somewhat limit him though since he cant boost + barrelroll after he moves.

You don't need to do this every turn... ;)

You kind of do if you want to be able to do the Coordinate>PTL>Green Maneuver>Action thing to end with no stress. Either that or you need to skip a round of Soontir using PTL to reset.

Yeah, and majority of the time if Soontir isnt token stacked or boost/rolled out of the way, hes in trouble.

The Upsilon is probably too expensive to fit with two strong aces. Also, Coordinate only works at R1-2. Short Leash to keep an Interceptor on.

big thing is anyone worth their salt is gunning for the shuttle anyway, and it ain't making soontir any less ignorable or doing the other ace any favors by eating a LOT of points that could go towards making it a threat

The key to this ship will be its dial. If it has a dial that's like the shuttle your paying a lot of pts for a ship that'll take two turns to turn around. A 4 primary ship needs to be shooting. The shuttle can usually sit out of the fight, and the other two aces can handle things on their own. This I think you'll want in the right

Not too good from what I've seen.....

Last night, I was thinking about:

Kylo Ren (34)

Push the Limit (3)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Ysanne Isard (4)
Comm Relay (3)

Total: 47

The interesting thing is that it gives some weird timing windows for actions. You can coordinate before your maneuver, *PTL, pull a green, and then if you're damaged, get an evade at the start of the combat phase.

Or! You could action before maneuver, and at the start of the combat phase you can evade action and then PTL to coordinate. Soontir Fel could, say, reposition and PTL after everyone else has moved.

This is pricey, and may not pay for itself. But it should be fun to try.

*Obviously all these action shenanigans require the ships involved to not be stressed.

Weird quote text behavior

i dont see why people think the UPS's dial is bad.

Dude, compare it to the lambda. ITS A MILLION TIMES BETTER! It has a full 1-3 access, i dont care if 4 of them are red, it still has atleast 1 white turn and can do the other red turns in a pinch if needed.

Its a fat boat. Its not suppose to be maneuverable. Only reason the Ghost has a 5k is because "Rebel stuff must be good!"

The only thing i find odd is its 1banks arent green instead of the 2banks. Its not a fast ship at all, Decimators atleast have a 4fwd.

The dial is excellent. People are crazy.

A 1 sharp on a large base + patteren anaylzer + FCS. You can keep that bad boys arc on your enemy.

Those Rebel fat turret dials are seriously overpowered. grr.

given the ship in question, 4 red dice and 12 health, we really could not have reasonably expected a better dial

**** thing has a white turn , that's literally all you could have ever hoped for

and they threw in a 1-turn because they're so generous

yeah, it's red, but guess what? Goddamn firespray can't 1-turn (not even red)

My guess is that they wanted to make the ship have to go a little bit faster if it is trying to clear stress. A 1 bank lets you adjust your arc with out traveling forward as far. You've also got red turns at one and white turns at two. It kind of seems natural to only have one level of difficulty change between the turns and banks for the same speed.

Not really, for two reasons: 1: you only have to drive to within range 1-2 of the Squint on your turn, and take an action. It can then go wherever it wants with its actions and movement, and you just have to catch up next turn.

2: Major Stridan exists. A big ship in the middle of the table is at range 1-3 from most of the table.

The main reason I can't see this working is that Soontir is still just as dead in the water to bombs and 5+ damage attacks with this as he was without it.

They won't split the factions. If they ever planned on doing so they'd have put into the rules groundwork to do so. Instead, Kylo Ren and Darth Vader's only restrictions are "Imperial only." Any case where Vader can be used Kylo can be used instead.
