Wave 4 OLP + Avenger

By MandalorianMoose, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

So as of wave 2, it was rather difficult to reliably set up on OLP shot for the avenger follow up, unless you were running high activations and going for the double arc pulse tap. With the new waves I want to see if I can get it to work with the Interdictor setting up the shot for the ISD. Avenger is set up to maximize damage on the Avenger shot, and the raider can hopefully pull double duty, acting as a fierce AA gunboat, but potentially still triggering OLP if the opportunity presents itself. What do you guys think?

I have been toying around with the same idea. I have two thoughts about your build though...

1. Why pick the Combat Refit over the Suppression Refit? You are trading 1 red/3 blue for 2 red/2 blue. More blues the better for OP.

2. No need for OE on the Raider 2. You only have one black per side, Those 4pts could be used somewhere else or for a better initiative bid.

Thanks for the post! I took the combat for the extra aa die, and with screed I won't need to rely on hoping for a crit so the 2 blue is not an issue.

And OE is for the anti squadron duty the raider will be pulling, as with cf+kallus it can throw three blacks and make several anti squadron attacks.

Avenger is awesome and scares the crap out of anyone you plop it down against, unfortunately your list will struggle to get that sweet OLP killshot off. Some thoughts from an insomniac who really need to go to sleep...

1)Raiders aren't a good AA solution unless taken in pairs or with some dedicated air superiority fighters. Kallus+Ordinance experts looks OP on paper but rebel aces will just tank the damage, needing multiple rounds of fire, and imperial aces will just scatter the 3 max dmg away. Impetuous is good for the double tap against an annoying ace, until they fly past your black dice and pound your other ships(or the rhymerball kills the raider in one round without taking any fire and then eats your other ships without fear).

2)Without gunnery teams the interdictor won't be able to use it's AA very effectively and it'll be a waste using such an expensive ship for AA when you need it to OLP something, which it will struggle to do without engine techs to keep it in the fight and near Avenger and the extra blue on the suppression means you might not have to use Screed, meaning more damage.

3)Targeting scrambler works beautifully though. Suppressor is a good combo with Avenger as well though the slicer tools may make it draw too much heat, only one accuracy and the gozanti goes boom.

Seen fairly convincing wave 2 lists doing this with 3olp raider2s and an isd2avenger with needa, trc + other kit I can't remember on isd & squads thrown in, it's the same activation count as yours and feel that the raider 2 manuverability just works out stronger for the token lock game.

That said you have some interesting tricks that you can pull over just the olp/avenger combination and the interdictor does have a fair bit more tank to it, I'm a little Iffy on its lack of speed to get where needed though even with tricks... Would love to see it in action though.
