Kenny Baker, beloved by Star Wars fans as R2D2, has passed away.

When I saw the title of this thread I was worried that this was the news.

He brought so much life into that little inanimate object, we owe a lot of what makes Star Wars great to his performance. It's sad when one of the real greats from this film franchise is gone.

Yeah. I had just found out about it over on the DAZ Studio message boards in the SW renders thread there. Given his importance to Star Wars I felt this community should know.

So sad about it, i didn't expect it. RIP Mr Baker

I was sitting with another Star Wars fan when we saw the announcement on the news. We were both saddened at his passing. He made R2 an instant classic and gave wonderful memories to countless people. Thank you, Mr. Baker. Rest in peace.

R2-D2 was always my favourite character, from when I was a child to now. I always found that he had more character despite being a tin-can on wheels than many of the human characters, and Mr Baker was no doubt a large part of that. Sad news.

Met him in person, sat and chatted with him. Loved him for his character.

A loss.
