HOTAC - Need advice on capture officer mission

By Chief Hugh, in X-Wing

What advice can any of you give me on running the AI systems for the TIE fighters. They are supposed to be escorting the shuttle but I imagine the AI random rolls will eventually have them leave the shuttle in their wake and there by stop giving it the protect action.

How do you make it seem more like the TIE's are escorting while trying to stay true to the AI system?

Also the enemy table has some red icons with numbers in front of them. Does that mean that a random ship type comes out only if our collective pilot skill is equal to or greater than that number?

Lastly, do we assume ALL enemy ships are pilot skill 1 unless otherwise stated?

Thanks in advance.

AI & Escorts: Alpha, Beta, and Gamma have the Escort AI (pages 19, 69). The only change from Attack AI is if they happen to be within range 1 of the shuttle they will use the protect action. Otherwise they still go after the Rebel players. (That's what Escorts do... fend off attackers.)

The red numbers: Per page 33, you will replace a base TIE Fighter with a random TIE IF the average Rebel PS (rounded down) is equal to or greater than the number shown. For example Gamma Squadron for 4 player will replace one base TIE Fighter with a random TIE if PS is 4+ and a second if it is 6+.

PS: TIE Fighters are PS 1. Other TIEs have a PS as listed in the Basic section of the card drawn from the deck. For example, a basic TIE Interceptor is PS 1. A basic TIE Bomber is PS 2.

The shuttle stats are listed in the scenario (page 69). "The officer’s shuttle is an Omicron Group Pilot (PS2) with the following upgrades: Flight Instructor, Sensor Jammer, Anti-Pursuit Lasers. In addition, the shuttle gains extra shields based on the number of players–see above."

I hope this helps.
