So here was an idea for a draft but instead of ships how about drafting commanders. The Commanders will not only decide what Admiral powers a player has but also what faction the player will be playing for the rest of the tournament/league/campaign.
So a set up idea. Using rankings or whatever order system you have have the players line up. The first one is up draw two cards. That player discards one and then draws another. Out of the two new commanders he picks one and the other is discarded. That commander counts as points spent and also determines what side the player plays. After all players pick commanders they begin to build their fleet.
Another set up idea is a common draft. Separate the commanders into stacks of 5 and players into groups of 4. Each group gets a stack. Last player in the group gets to hold 1 commander from the 1st player in the group to pick. After the 1st player picks a commander (which counts to points spent and decides the faction of his fleet) the last player returns the held commander to the stack. Once all players pick their commanders then they begin to build their fleet using the commander and the commander's faction.
So what do you think or do you have any better ideas for a set up for a commander draft?
