The Ghost is an Easter egg and I doubt it will be the only one.

They've gone past X-wings only. Who is going to wasted their time wondering

what ship the Ghost is if they've never seen it before. I doubt Gareth spent his time

thinking people have never seen that before so we won't put it in the movie.

We don´t have to worry though, this iconic fighter certainly does get screentime in Rogue One :-)

Z-95s appeared in The Clone Wars, although either it's an earlier model than the X-wing-with-closed-S-foils we have in the game or canon Zeds are supposed to look different.

I also want this film to cement the idea that the title of "Rogue One" is a death sentence. It's a call sign used or assigned to those that are about to undertake a mission, whose success is vital to the idea of the resistance, but one where you are not expected to return. All know it, accept it and some even consider it an honour to be remembered amongst its ranks and that is what I imagine the scene to be when Cassian says it. He looks back at his comrades, they understand what it means, the comms officer on the other side knows what it means. . .

I bet the vets here know what I am referring to too. We remember that the plans are beamed aboard Leia's ship... You are not going to see Leia and Jyn hug and cheer at the end of this film.

I think it's kinda cool personally that one or both of these characters might have brief cameos. Makes it another way for rogue one to bridge the gap between the PT and OT along with stuff like bail organa returning.
