My [homebrew] U-Wing expansion for Rogue One

I'd love to hear any thoughts or feedback on this. If people are interested, I can explain the thought process and design decisions I made when I have the time. I'm pretty happy with most of the card stats and effects, but the point costs could probably stand to be tweaked on some of them.



Incom UT-60D , a.k.a. "U-Wing"


Basic stats:


  • Small base with standard firing arc
  • 2 Attack
  • 0 Agility
  • 8 Hull
  • 2 Shields
  • Action bar: Focus, Target Lock, Reinforce

Dial:


  • Speed 4: red k-turn
  • Speed 3: white straight
  • Speed 2: green straight, white banks, white hard turns
  • Speed 1: white straight
  • Speed 0: red full stop

Upgrade slots:


  • <Cannon>
  • <Crew>
  • <Crew>
  • <Bomb>

Pilots


  • Conscripted Lander Pilot - PS 2 - 18 points
  • Rebel Insertion Specialist - PS 4 with EPT slot - 20 points
  • Cassian Andor - PS 5 with EPT slot - "When another friendly ship at Range 1 is defending, during the Compare Results step, you may suffer one damage to cancel one of the attacker's <hit> results." - 21 points
  • Jyn Erso - PS 7 with EPT slot - "You may equip upgrades with the Scum only restriction. Your upgrade bar gains the <Illicit> symbol." - 23 points

Ship-specific upgrades:


  • Rebel Command Transport - 1 Point - Title, U-Wing only - "Reduce the cost of each <Crew> upgrade with the Rebel only restriction equipped to this ship by 2, to a minimum of 0 for each one."
  • Close Air Support Ship - Title, U-Wing only - 1 Point - "When attacking at Range 1-2, if there is another friendly ship at Range 1-2, you may re-roll one attack die."
  • Swing-wing Versatility - 5 Points - Modification, Dual Card, U-Wing only - Side A: "When you reveal a maneuver, you may increase its speed by 1. You cannot perform <stop> maneuvers. You may treat <left bank> and <right bank> maneuvers as green maneuvers. Your upgrade bar gains the <boost> symbol. At the end of the activation phase, you may flip this card."
  • Swing-wing Versatility - 5 Points - Modification, Dual Card, U-Wing only - Side B: "When you reveal a maneuver, you may decrease its speed by 1 to a minimum of 1. You may treat your <stop> maneuver as a white maneuver. Your upgrade bar gains the <barrel roll> symbol. At the end of the activation phase, you may flip this card."

General use upgrades:


  • Cannoneer - <Crew> - 1 Point - Limited - "Once per round, when attacking with an equipped <Cannon> upgrade at Range 1, you may roll 1 additional attack die.
  • Gatling Cannon - <Cannon> - 5 Points - 2 Attack Dice - Range 1-2 - "Attack: Perform this attack three times. Each time this attack hits, the defender suffers 1 damage. Then cancel all dice results."
  • Jyn Erso - Unique <Crew> - Scum or Rebel only - 2 Points - "At the start of the activation phase, you may flip a dual card attached to this ship. "
  • Cassian Andor - Unique <Crew> - Rebel only - 2 Points - "When another friendly ship at Range 1-2 is defending, it may change one of its <eye> results to an <evade> result. "
  • Thermal Detonators
  • Adaptability

Wait til December, if FFG wants to capitalie on the new movie like it did with Episode VII then we'll get the ship the dayR ogue One comes out.

Bomb doesnt make sense if it is a lander. Though I can see a modification that takes a crew slot and give 2 bombs or something...call it "bomb bay"

You movement dial idea is pretty solid. Actions look fine, other than maybe reinforce being way out of place.

I like the 2 crew slots.

I do not see a small ship getting 8 hull, (6 on the ARC wih 3 shields is pretty solid though, it probably would be the same). And we dont know its offensive capabilities so cannon probably doesnt make sense either....esecially since we do not see a big gun and no turret either.

So i jokingly said I'd like to see it have a"Team" slot since it carries teams of people. And now that I think of it, I wouldnt actually mind seeing that happen....so far only 1 of the teams we have in the game dont require energy, but I dotn see why this couldnt start a trend of non-energy teams that can be used on non-epic ships. Like a Rebel commando team or something, Recon Specialists.

0 agility? Based on the trailer, I don't buy that. It looks pretty maneuverable. My hope would be 2 agility. It might be one though.

Definitely not Reinforce, if that action ever becomes available to small/large base ships it will break the game. Even if it has 0 agility.

I do appreciate your enthusiasm for the U-wing though.

But I would give it lateral firing arcs (for those manned M60 machineguns lasers). ;)

I'm not so sure the Vietnam-style side guns be able to fire in space. Maybe a crew member that gives side auxillary arcs to the ship.

And we know the ship has to have at least one crew slot from the side-by-side pilot and co-pilots, let alone the other crew/team in the belly hold.

You KNOW it's coming, just wait for the official release.

I agree that 0 agility doesn't seem to fit. 1 would put it on the same footing as an ARC and Y-Wings. 2 if they really want to shake things up.

I think it should be faster, but the Swing Wing mod solves that in a unique way, which is pleasing.

Bomb slot doesn't seem thematic for a drop ship. If you really want it, though, grab Sabine Crew.

Most of the upgrade cards look alright, with the Gatling Cannon looking particularly fun.

It's the best looking new ship to arrive in the Star Wars franchise since the mid nineties.

That said, I'm going to wait to see what it's actually capable of before attempting to come up with rules for it.

When attacking from your Belly arc, reduce the defender's banana by 1 to a minimum of 0.

Banana Detonator

After attacking you may drop one Banana Detonator.

1 Point. (Bomb)

Using Banana Detonators

This card describes the hilarity of using Banana Detonators....

...when a ship overlaps a Banana Token that ship must perform a Red 3-Straight maneuver....
