TIE/sf title

By IG88E, in X-Wing Rules Questions

"When attacking with a primary weapon from your primary firing arc, you may roll 1 additional attack die. If you do not, you may perform an additional attack from your auxiliary firing arc."

I am a bit confused about the wording.

Does it mean I HAVE TO attack first with the front arc in order to be allowed to use the rear arc?

"If you do not..."

I cannot attack with just 2 dice when there is no one in front of me

You have four options:

  1. Make a regular attack from your primary arc with 2 attack dice.
  2. Make a regular attack from your auxiliary arc with 2 attack dice.
  3. Use the title and make an attack from your primary arc with 3 attack dice.
  4. Use the title and make a regular attack from your primary arc with 2 attack dice AND an additional attack from your auxiliary arc.

Didn't we just have this question?

Now to expand on Parravon's answer I'd point out that you can still IGNORE the title and use the "regular" attack options he lists if desired. To put things another way you can attack out of the front using the title or not; you could attack out of the back; or you could attack out of the front AND back using the title.

Yep, I just made the same mistaken interpretation.

I'm glad I'm not alone. In the future, it's nice to search through the rules forum to see if your question was already answered.

EDIT: The main confusion comes from the mistaken impression that the title is what gives the ship its auxiliary arc. Once you understand that it has a printed auxiliary arc that is functional in every way, you understand that the title is there only to provide bonus dice: that is, it grants a bonus die when attacking solely out the front arc, or grants a second attack out the aux arc after performing an attack out the front.
