So, how fast does the TIE Defender go if it's activated by
Corrupter
?
This (aside from it being just ridiculous in and of itself) is why I didn't ever expect to see an Imperial squadron with both speed 5 and
bomber
.
Corrupter and TIE Defender
A had a bunch of snark, but decided, in the end, to answer honestly:
Because Vector states "To a Maximum of 5", I'm pretty sure they'll errata the same onto the Corruptor Card.

Yea, I was hesitating because of this.
Surely.
I'm sure it didn't escape the playtesters' notice, since those +speed upgrades are an obvious thing to check.
... Right...?
With this as the rule:
2. Move Squadron: Pick up the squadron and position it anywhere along the center of the ruler up to the line that marks the end of the distance band matching the squadron’s speed value. The squadron’s base cannot be placed beyond that line. Then remove the range ruler and place the squadron in the final position.
As the Official FFG Distance Ruler does not go beyond 5, 5+1=5... Because Maths is Fun!
That's kind of a stretch. If there is no distance band matching the squadron's speed value, it's just an undefined game state. Which will surely be errata'd, but best to point it out before the Wave drops than have somebody stumble across it mid-tournament.
I'd obviously rule it to be capped at speed 5 if I were TOing. I just don't think there's rules support--just very likely intent.

Agreed. But when it comes to justifying it at a tournament, I'd be pointing it out, probably in so many words:
"So, the rules say you can move up to your speed, and you have to rule to measure, so the furthest you can actually measure is Distance 5, which is a perfectly legal move for the speed you wish to move at..."
I would cap it at 5 until an official ruling states otherwise. Since we have no functional way to move it speed 6 accurately.
Either speed "6" = speed 5 or speed 6 = infinity. One of those two options...
Also, the distances aren't the same on the range ruler (going from 0-1 is longer than going from 4-5), so you can't just get an extra speed 1 move...
Unless from 5 to "6" is the same as distance 1. Which would be phenomenal for the combo, but pretty stupid. Especially with Rhymer. That's a pretty easy turn 1 alpha strike.
The onus is on the person to prove what Distance 6 is , first of all, if they want to use it.
And that simply cannot happen with current materials...
...
Although I do like Distance 6 being Infinite... Does that mean its the equivelant of Warp 10?
You can do it, you end up occupying every point of the universe at the same time, and then later, Turn into an Amphibian?
Because I'd pay to see that.
Enter Q...
It's only Warp 10 sometimes. Warp 10 wasn't always universal Superposition.
Or should I be screaming that this is Star Wars, and not Star Trek?
As per the FAQ you CANNOT use two tools at once. So, to get a measurement of 5+1, as you would have to use two tools, I say the golden rule applies.
You cannot use two tools, therefore speed 5 is all you get.
That's a bit specious no? the rule is to stop people using the Maneuver tool to see where their ship could end up, and then placing the Shooting range ruler at the end of that one, or vice versa.
As as per the golden rules, Cards over rule written rules in the rule book, and thus the FAQ.
Personally I do not think it is intended for Corrupter to allow things to move at speed 6, but atm as per the RAW it is not illegal, they will definitely need to errata it. How do you measure it? you could simply put your squadron on the end of the range ruler, now it is beyond 5, but below 6, without needing a second range ruler.

What if the distance between speed 5 and 6 is 5mm?
You cant prove me wrong...
I'ts really kind of academic. Nobody has a speed 6 ruler so you obviously can't fly at speed 6. Corrupter just needs a housekeeping errata for consistency.
I only bring this up to point it out so that the errata happens, because you know there's going to be somebody at some tournament thinking they can just add another speed 1 onto the end of the Defender's movement.

Sure, but the rule has 1 range band larger, as that denotes engagement range, and then 2/3/4/5 are all exactly the same size and length, not a huge stretch of the imagination that 5-6 is the same size as 4-5.
but I agree with Ard, I was just disagreeing with Amanals post.
I agree with the above. The rub is, however, that there may very well be some future* keywords or unique abilities that reduce squadron's movement to a non-fixed value (unlike Chirpy). For example, something like:
"When an enemy squadron at distance 1 activates, its speed is decreased by 2 (to a minimum of 1) until the end of its activation."
In such a case, having speed 6 does make a difference.
The question, then, is whether FFG's inevitable errata/FAQ will say:
"A squadron's speed cannot be increased above 5"
or
"A squadron may only move up to distance 5, even if its speed is higher"
EDIT: Actually, I'm fairly sure this is exactly what the Lancer ace in the Wave 5 Rebel squadron pack does.

Yep, reduces your Speed when you activate near it... By 2, I think.
2/3/4/5 are all exactly the same size and length
Are they? I know 2 is smaller, but I'm not sure if it's just decreased by the same increment that 0-1 is increased by. I've not compared the distances that closely, I just know 1-2 is noticeably bigger and 2-3 is noticeably smaller.

warp 10 does not equal trans warp lol
personally id rather have an Infinite improbability drive -
im going to move my cr90 at speed 5, and now its an ISD2 lol
warp 10 does not equal trans warp lol
BUT I'M QUOTING ACTUAL STAR-TREK STUFF!
The difference between distance 2 and 3 is significant that is why but wings being speed 2 is such a handicap

Not a handicap. Not Anymore!
