Jaffamaster's repaints and modifications

By Jaffamaster, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

Well gents, here is my collection of repaints and modifications that I've done for the X-Wing Miniatures Game. I have some work but lost it when we lost the sub-thread awhile ago. Anywho, here is one of my first repaints of a HWK-290...well, more of an extreme modification. The original paint wasn't coming off so I over applied nail polish remover. After removing the detail work and trying to rebuild it on the original structure I had to scrap it and all I was able to save was the stabilizers and engines - Everything else was custom built with sheet plastic (the detail work was before I got into doing panel lines).

The links are broken on my end. I'm dying to see!

I added the link for you, so that should work when I try to post more projects. Is anyone else having any issues viewing the images?

The Z-95 is one of my favorite ships to paint. The middle Headhunter (red, white and blue color) is a simple, yet elegant looking repaint that I hope to try with an X-Wing down the road. The black painted one is my first attempt at highlighting the leading edges. It's a first trial for me so I certainly need to get more proficient in this technique. Custom design, as I was going for a recon-style Z-95.

The Kihraxz Fighter was a bit of a pain for me. Looking at references from Star Wars Galaxies and the Star Wars Wikia page, I found that there were different models of the ship, however, nothing really struck me that something a pirate faction would have for a bit of smuggling. I moved the engines to go with some of the material I found online then took out the bottom section of the model and started building. What you see is a cargo hold with paneling to make it look more like it belongs with the ship. The color scheme was inspired from the Terminator aircraft.

For the TIE Advanced I wanted to do something easy to get started (this was my first repaint). It's an Imperial Sovereign Protector ship with just one wash to show some wear.

This little piece was really a pain in my back to complete. In total, I completely stripped and repainted this TIE Advanced Prototype three times all in the course of a month and a half. The first two attempts the color scheme was proving too difficult to paint thanks in particular to the brighter colors not going on evenly. Combine that and the washes coming out much darker than I expected, I was getting rather annoyed. Especially when it came to putting a tail number/unit identification on the solar panels and having the crisp details not coming out how I wanted them to. The third time was rather not the charm, but me saying the heck with it and however it turns out, I'll stick with it. I scoured the panel lines after my first base coat then immediately added a wash in them. I added my colors, washed over the model and I was FINALLY done. I'll have to say, with all the trouble this little model gave me, I am most proud of it.

Did you buy your ships from McDonald's? 'Cause I'm loving it. From your mods on the Z and the Kihraxz to the kick-a paint job on the Advanced Prototype, you've done an outstanding job.

Too bad your previous thread go lost. Would have liked to have seen what else you came up with.

Great work!!

Jaffamaster, what you got for us? What are you working on?

Alright gents, the most recent project is finally finished. For your review I have the G-1A Starfighter that has been repainted and modified. I would like to do this model again, but a future endeavor would need more research in LED work in miniatures of this scale. I know I have one of the forum posts on doing this saved, I just need more time. Anywho, here you go:

Very Impressive.

You can certainly see the amount of work gone into your model.

Excellent.

Well done and all the best,

Barry.

So here is my first attempt at making a miniature look as if it is cel shaded. I believe it was Barry, BlueFrog, Macross, or another professional painter that motivated me to attempt that level of detail.

WOW GREAT JOB ON THE T-65 !

You have taken some time on that one, nice colour combination and panel shading.

stands out very well.

you should be proud of that one, all your models look superb. but you can really see the effort in this one.

Well done Jaffamaster :D

All the best,

Barry.

Excellent work.

I must admit, the T-65s give me the biggest problems; I have a hard time painting between the two wings and it usu. ends up kind of blobby.

Kudos to you for doing such a good job!

I love all of these. Especially the recon Z-95. Great work!

Happy Inaguation Day! I'm finally taking the time to upload some completed material, and a project I've been working on and off for a month of so. As soon as the transport is painted, I'll start on my scratch build (finally). Anyway, here's the first of a string of ships, the Protectorate Starfighter. This was finished back in November so now seems like a good enough time to post it. I enlarged the forward "wings" so it has an open axis similar to a star destroyer, and adding a more Tron paint scheme. With all the lighting coats I had to paint, I really wish I would get an airbrush set.
