Horror Checks for multiple Investigators

By huud007, in Mansions of Madness

When you have multiple investigators that need to make a horror check from the same monster, are you doing one horror check and having each investigator make that roll/check, or are you doing separate checks from the app for each investigor?

They way we read the rules, it sounds like each investigator make his own check.

Nice Avatar huud!

We play two investigators. We have been using the app to select the monster, and if it is the same monster to test against for both investigators, we roll for the single test provided. Not sure if it is correct, but if we selected who took the test, it seems we could cheat the system and pick the best investigator suited for the tests.

Each investigator must resolve a Horror check against a monster within range, you're not allowed to select the strongest investigator of the party after seeing which attribute is to test

Each investigator must resolve the two points listed in the ref guide, thus you start with Investigator A, select the monster, resolve the check; then you tap on Investigator B and resolve the sequence again, and so on. So each investigator resolves a different check

I'm not sure what you mean. From the rules it sounds like if multiple investigators need to make a horror check against the same monster you only activate the horror check from that monster once and each investigator rolls their check separately.

Team Covenant posted their demo, and in their case they just hit the horror check once and everyone in range of the monster rolled against it. However, I don't know if that is accurate, as it uses the monster as the base of the horror check.

In my playthroughs, we've been doing it where each investigator checks for monsters in range, then finds the highest number, then does a horror check against that one. It is then fully resolved before we go to the next investigator and resolves it. I suspect this made the game quite a bit harder for us!

We played that each targeted investigator makes a totally separate horror check.

From ref. RULES:

During the horror step, each investigator resolves a horror check

against a monster within range by selecting the monster from the

monster drawer and resolving the effect generated by the app.

• If multiple monsters are within range of an investigator, he

resolves a horror check against only the monster with the

highest horror rating.

• If no monsters are within range of an investigator, he does not

resolve a horror check.

• If multiple investigators would resolve a horror check against

the same monster, those investigators all resolve the same

horror check.

Yes, it is one Horror Check made by all investigators who are within range (within 3 spaces and line of sight) of the monster. You tap the monster with the highest horror value in range, select horror check and then all those investigators who are within rage make a test against the same check. Thematically this makes sense as they are all seeing the same thing at the same time. It's not like the monster does multiple "horrifying" things during the mythos phase.

Just learned the above as well. The rules are inconsistent however since it does not mention that the same unique check is for all investigators within range in the LTP guide. I seems to only be in the rule reference book. :/

I played this wrong for first go from LTP was doing full complete new check per investigator

Yay for things making the game easier! :D

Yes single checks for each investigator via the same monster lengthens play somewhat.

Thats incorrect. Refer to Page 10 of the reference guide, Horror Step, bullet point 3 - "If multiple investigators would resolve a horror check against the same monster, those investigators all resolve the same horror check".

They do no not all resolve a different check as you have stated.

Already mentioned above

Thanks. I looked at the rules for Horror Check, didn't think about re-checking under Horror Step (honestly, the reference is really bad, see the need to cross-check three different sections to answer the question "does light goes through doors"?)

Kraisto is certainly right here; sorry all for my erroneous previous answer
