What to buy next...

By Red 7, in X-Wing Off-Topic

I know that there are a lot of videos and threads on which ships to buy and in what order, but I was hoping for a little more specific support/advice from the community.

My collection consists of the following:

- 2X Original Core sets

- 1X Tie fighter

- 1X Tie Advanced

- 1X Force Awakens Core set

- 1X T-70 X-Wing

- Rebel Aces

- 3X A-Wing expansions

- Imperial Aces

- 1X Tie Interceptor

- 1X Millenium Falcon

- 1X Slave 1

I really enjoy flying ace lists, and have a tendency to like defensive over aggressive play styles, aka R2D2, arc dodging, etc...

That being said, I have also recently enjoyed playing swarm list.

See what I mean about loosing focus! :P

There are SO many cool ships and cards that I lost focus in regards to where I should go with my collection next.

After looking at the above list, are there any "must haves" or glaring omissions in my collection that you can see?

I have about $50 Canadian to spend right now.

I was considering a Lambda Shuttle (to compliment the Interceptors and meet my desire to have the iconic ships in my collection), and a Starviper because I would like to have the Autothruster cards.

I look forward to your comments.

I really like the retro vibe of your ships. ;)

So I would ask whether or not you play casual with pals, or serious play with no proxies?

If the answer is "casual", then really get yourself the shuttle. Here's why:

1) It's so iconic and fits with your current decor!

2) You need 2 anyway for Heroes of the Arturi Cluster!

3) You can proxy Palpatine, you have his pimp wagon and you said you like arc dodgin' aces!

Proxy up Palp, Vader's fix, and Soontir with thrusters and you have a list that not only you have all the ships for, but that currently sits as one of the most popular competitively. Just my 2 cents.

Defenders.

Thanks EastCoast.

I am definitely more on the side of a casual player, but I do have a pretty strong competitive streak.

I think that the Lambda shuttle is something that keeps coming up as a "need" for me, so perhaps the Lambda/starviper purchase is a solid direction.

If I get defenders (which are REALLY cool) then I need to buy Imperial veterans too!

I would buy a Defender and a Tie Bomber and Imperial Veterans. Lots of options, lots of goodness.

So.... I think I am going to go with a Lambda shuttle and Tie Phantom.

My reasoning is that the shuttle has good cards (IMHO anyway), and is a classic ship.

And the Phantom is fun to fly, and I REALLY want to paint the cloaking effect in a ship!

Firespray and most wanted

Firespray and most wanted

I have a firespray already, and I am not ready to get into S&V just yet.

I did watch a bunch of Most Wanted unboxing though, and that is going to be a brilliant purchase when I do make it.

I second this recommendation. There are some very cool Defender aces and some nifty dynamics you can explore with the Veterans boost. The bombers+veterans gives you a rang of interesting options to explore from a straight up ordnance platform, to eccentric ace (Bren), to buddy buffing shuttles. That should be ballpark in your budget too!

I guess if you went the Lambda you could proxy the Emperor and run a Palp aces list, but I think there's more fun to be had with Defenders and Bombers.

Defenders are definitely a favorite of mine, and I WILL be getting one or two and the Imperial veterans at some point in the future.

I just find it hard to make decisions when it comes to which expansions to buy next.

I keep feeling that I need to make sure that I have at least one of each ship in the earlier expansions before I get caught up in all of the hype and cool new stuff that is coming out.

A strong foundation is important, and without the earlier cards/ships I do not feel that I will have one.

This is NOT an easy thing for me to do!

I keep getting lured away by the new shinny expansions.

I don't even have the T-65 X-Wing or Y-Wing expansions yet!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

A Lambda, a raider and 2 defender and 2 imperial veterans. Gosh, I wish they had packed 3 of each title into that pack and made the TIE-Bomber stuff another box, because I honestly can not stand to use the Red Defender on anything, but Ryad.

A E-Wing, a Rebel Transport. a YT-2400 and at least one ghost.

As you already got two crack shots anyway with the double veterans: A gozanti, Sabin's TIE, a party bus and 2 K-Fighter. One Firespray and one most wanted.

And now pick your poison, imperial veterans, one defender and a lambda should be in your budget add lots of good cards and gives you palpatine aces at least when playing with proxies. If you enjoy it you can buy a raider later still for tournament play or just loan the upgrade card for tournaments.

I don't even own a standard TIE Line. I buy specifically what I need, and I don't like having things collect dust because I need upgrades or pieces to kitbash.
