Trying to use Rage without Tycho

By thestggrwng, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I've been fiddling with rage. How does this grab you?

YT-1300: · Chewbacca (42)
Wingman (2)
Tactical Jammer (1)
YT-1300: · Han Solo (46)
Rage (1)
· Kyle Katarn (3)
Gunner (5)

Unless your running a Jan dash, even 4 hits just wash off soontir or x7 deltas. Gunner is needed and this gives han 3 focus and up to 3 die rerolls on both gunner shots. If Chewbacca falls first running as a blocker han still gets a focus one shot and a double focus 3 die rerolls next shot. Thought of trading kyle for kanaan and upping gunner to Luke but if chewie falls first I'm strictly getting no actions every other turn

Han Solo (46)

Rage (1)

Kanan Jarrus (3)

Ezra Bridger (3)

Total: 53

I've been thinking the same kind of idea.... I think stacking rage, gunner, han is a bad idea though. Dice can only be rerolled once after all.

I wouldn't be using Han for his reroll (unless I roll 4 blanks) but Rage would allow me to reroll up to 3 blanks to get maximum use out of a reroll and focus. Usually you only have to reroll 1 or 2 dice. Rage allows me to not have to use Han's ability and roll more consistent full damage on both the main and gunner attack.

Seems like a lot of points to spend on rerolls. you really need Ezra any way you cut it through if your stressing han out.

I have tinkered with this, but PTL just makes more sense in this case, but it is still a fun theory

Green Squadron Pilot + Rage + Test Pilot + Wingman

Ptl is usually better except rage gets me are roll on both gunner and initial shot.

Some good points on Rage with Keyan Farlander here: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/204965-keyan-farlander-build/

I've never seen much use of Rage with a 2-shot ship such as Tycho, despite his excellent ability to ignore the stress.

If you're flying casual stick Rage on Porkins and see how long he survives.

I do like that Keyan build, because it makes the extra focus from rage useful. The problem here is the problem all B-wings face. They are too slow to catch imperial aces and and can't k-turn behind large ships like Dengar. The goal here is a turret that can punch through the token stack of whisper/ inquisitor/ soontir, and has a high enough PS to move against a Dengar. Rage gives me the great action economy when mixed with gunner.

Maybe on one of the ARC-170 with an elite? Put "Chopper" as a crew + R2D2.

Rage, Chopper then regen on a green.

Keyan / Rage / adv sensors could work

else there's always youngster rage + 7 academy

there are far more effective ways to get full mods on ARCs, thankfully

Thane basically does it by himself, Norra needs PTL specifically for TLs thanks to her ability

basically, you're looking at r2-d6 Rage Braylen with gunner and hoping his ability procs (take a TL for rear arc shots since they mod themselves basically)

32 points, though, which is also Thane with r2-d6 Crackshot tailgunner and VTs. Thane is far more flexible in this scenario

Exactly. PTL is better than rage in almost every way. My only caveat to that is when you have a gunner crew. It gives you up to 3 dice rerolls for both shots making it better than PTL which only gives you the reroll on one shot rather than 2. Even the Keyan build is cheaper to just do jan crew and PTL for the exact same effect. I think Rage only works on Tycho who is already taking PTL and on a ship with a gunner to get both shots with a reroll.

The only problem I have with your list is Chewie: he is not a real threat, and Han will be focused 100% of the time. Consider replacing Chewie with the standard lothal rebel with fcs, abt and your favourite crew. (I'd go for Hera and dash or maybe hera and intelligence agent).

As for rage in general, I've found it to be fun on ezra in the attack shuttle. He packs a punch for one round and is safe while he de-stresses.. Or if you can get hera as a crew it might be worth taking that one good shot over all the half-assed wired ones you usually get.

agreed

only thing is, in the case of the ARC specifically, gunner Rage Braylen is in direct competition with gunner R3-a2 Braylen which isn't raw damage but is guaranteed stress .

and, after playing around with ARCs, I've found that really the front guns (the ones that benefit most from rage) are mostly ornamental, so you'll be working the Tailgunner more often than not (a lot cheaper)

the only home for Rage atm, outside tycho (if even there, honestly 2-dice primaries don't impressive), is Quickdraw with the E-baffle + rage combo of better-than-cluster-missile goodness

though I suppose you could also try Ezra shuttle

I had success with 4.Lom advanced sensors and rage ...

Adv sensors, rage, do a green to get rid of one stress, then if you planned it right, pass the second stress off at end of round

In general Rage is not an every round EPT. It should only be activated on certain situations ensuring that the extra stress is not hindering too mich next round
