Flotillas shopping list

By Polda, in Star Wars: Armada

My FLGS confirmed they got W3 and W4 today (I'm out of the country...fk).

Meanwhile I'm putting a shopping list together for when I'm back.

I collect both factions (mostly just 1 of each ship with the exception of VSD which I skipped)

The question is... how many flotillas to get?

Is 2 of each the optimal number?

Edited by Polda

I am starting with one of each and going from there

I bought three so i could supply mirror matches, but I think 2 is the correct answer.

i only buy rebs (my buddy buys imps)

but i went for 2 flotillas and 3 liberties

(BWaaahaaahahaha rebel star destroyer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I am getting 3 of each!

2 of each seems like enough for most builds. I have a feeling that any more than that will start to have diminishing returns. That said, I have been wrong before, so a 3rd of each probably wouldn't hurt if you have the disposable income.

I purchased 2 of each, but can see where 3 or 4 could be used. I'm still not convinced flotillas will see any play outside of adding cheap ship activations, but I'm hoping to be wrong. I'm finding it extremely difficult to justify spending 50+ points for something that barely does any damage. Having used them, I found them most useful as extra activations and shims to get in the way of enemy vessels, forcing the enemy to waste an entire attack round to deal with them.

You can easily go with one of each and play around with them. I'm expecting there to be competitive fleets with 3 or more naked flotillas, for both activations and tiny carriers.

I think 20 Rebel Transports are in order ... who needs offense when you can win your matches by boring your opponent senseless.

*edit*

But seriously, 2~3 each seems about right - especially with all the stuff coming out with Wave 5.

I'm starting with dos flotillas for each faction. Need to learn how to use them before I commit to too many.

I bought one of each. I'm going to fly them abit before committing more. I don't know if i see myself flying more than one at a time. One for bomber support seems awesome, but i don't know how many would really be viable in a list

The correct answers is, "it depends."

It depends upon what kind of gamer you are and what you want to get out of the game.

Roleplayers, collectors, and competitive gamers will probably pick up several.

I think one is perfectly justifiable if you just want to see what they can do. The commanders and upgrade cards are just good to have.

At the moment, I am leaning towards 2 Intradictors, 3 of everything else.

Wave 5, that will be 2 Peltas, and 4 of everything else.

I like to have lots of options, especially since I supply 95% for home games.

I will most likely get 2 copies of the CC campaign, though one will be going to a buddy of mine for Christmas... Assuming it is out by then.

So my 2 measly GR75 Slicer Beam Flotilla's were the ultimate cause for my victory I think. . .

My tractor beams did nothing but that is fine, they are the in case they can be used card, but Slicer Tools. . . OH BABY! That stopped HERO's Assault Frigate from escaping AND his MC80! If I had not messed up I might of gotten the whale as well!

Ah well, what can you do?

I'll have to get two Gozantillas* as well.

I will get a gozanti and love and cherish it.

I played my first wave 3/4 game against my buddy last night.

I used 1 gozanti cruiser with repair crews and titus.

-Titus pinged his liberty down to speed 1 at turn 1, forcing him to use his nav token instead of bank it.

-The gozanti had 2 rounds where he healed a damage card on a Vic using repair crews.

-Spent the rest of the game collecting my Intel Sweep tokens (3).

-Distracted 2 volleys of red dice from; 1 from Liberty and 1 from Neb B.

In addition to being a deployment drop and an activation, I would say, overall, he was very much worth 29 points.

The fact that Slicer Tools don't come in Transportillas* makes me want to punch many things.

I bought 3 Transports, 2 Gozanti and 1 each of the Liberty and Interdictor. Kind of a bit of buyers remorse after and I'm thinking 2 Transports would have been a more reasonable choice as I can't see my self really bringing all three of them for a 400-point battle. I do tend to have 'spare' stuff for people to try the game out though so it's not a terrible decision.

Make a cool terrain piece out of the Gozantillas!

Nah, I might actually want to use them at some point. Now TIE fighter squadrons... that's a different story. I could turn some into a debris cloud :D

See if you can fit the TIEs to the bottom of the Zanti's!

Just checked if it can be done. The TIE fighters are too big for the Gozanti models and the flotilla stand gets in the way as well >.<
