Return of HTTs and Advanced Projectors?

By ianediger, in Star Wars: Armada

my opinion is that AP's are better for smaller ships where ecm may be overkill.

For example:

Advanced projectors on a cr90 is really fun. it essentially makes it able to take 11 damage before it dies.

as not many large ships concentrate down on a single cr90 there is a better chance that it will be able to use its redirect.

conversely large ships tend to do better with ecm because smaller ships WILL concentrate fire against them en mass every time the opportunity arises,

Personally i use AP's on my mc80s as the redundant redirects make it very difficult to block both AND the brace.

Personally I pack a few XI7s. They are good vs. Ap and all those annoying redirects out there.

Good discussion.

All of these questions really depend upon the meta. It will probably take more than the Liberty before HTT becomes effective. If we see Interdictors as well, the HT limits its other tokens. If the Interdictor is paired with ISD or VSDs regularly, then again, that's a possible limitation. The drawback to HTT is you're still likely to fight a number of ships against which it does little or nothing. Maybe your local meta is different, but Advanced Projectors have never really gone out with me or in my meta. You see lots of TRC Corvettes and Demolishers. Well, you could see TRC Neb-B or Assault Frigate as well. None of those ships puts up a lot of accuracies and TRC is a damage pump that aims to overcome all of the shields that they have anyway. I've even seen lists with XI7 on only one ship, which means I just redirect some other ship's shots off and still use my shields. XI7 really wants precision work on the same whole zone. You know you've done it right when the opponent dies with only 2 of his shields outside of the one target hullzone used.

AP is likewise a meta consideration. If you're not seeing lots of accuracies, then of course it makes sense.

Every choice has its counter, and you're going to have to accept that at times you're going to meet a counter list to your own. You cannot get down on yourself if that happens.

And every ship also has a couple of good ways to combat it.

Which lets be honest most metas are extremely demo heavy

San Francisco Bay Area is extremely Demo light, I'm one of only a handful using Demo in nearly everything. Most of our competitive players are Rebels.

I have always liked HTTs combine with OL Pulse. When the enemy sees a blue crit they tend to spend all the green defence tokens they can for that volley knowing they would be exhausted anyway. HTTs mitigate this, at least the brace part.

With Mon Karren around it is an even better place to put OL Pulse as they can only spend one defence token and OL pulse exhausts the others. Your fellow ships are then free to fire follow up shots in effect with free Intel officers.

Gotta say I'm not awfully scared of Demo. It's a good upgrade, but it's expensive and prone to getting shot by absolutely every OPFOR on the table.
Plus a tricked out Demo's going on for 100 points or say 70 nekid. She's not so cheap, and she's most liekly not coming back out again.

Not saying to be scared by it just saying ecm is not blanket good in all situations upgrade as against demo, one of the most common ships, it will not help 99% of the time.

There is no such card for ECM.

Or not viable?

The essential problem with AP still hasn't been fixed, though:

There exists a card in common use (XI7) that completely neuters AP.

There is no such card for ECM.

Im so supprised i dont see these geting used more.

The key to HTT is you need a ship that can dish decent damage. ISD, Demo, MC30 ect

Demo can't take HTT, so there is that.

Put HTT on your ISD2. Then start imagining the various lists you might come up against.

What is more important? Limiting redirects, or limiting braces (but only if they try to use another token as well).

I'd say that most of the time XI7 is the answer.

If APs actually worked against XI7s, then maybe XI7s would be a bit less useful and we'd see more HTT.

Maybe.

Or maybe it would be too advantageous for the Rebel side.
