Has there been any more word on if/when/how this is going to come? If it's going to come I'd like to get into IA, but I am afraid to buy in only to have them do a sort of reset and not be able to use what I bought.
You can certainly still use what you buy.
Since this game is basically Descent one can assume with high confidence that they will do pretty much the same thing for IA as they did for Descent. A campaign or two that uses the base game and may incorporate elements form the other stuff you bought. Later on, more campaigns specific to expansions.
I bought a bunch of IA and figured by the time I get my all minis painted in 6 months time, the app will be here. With that said, plenty of time before the app comes out, so wait for a sale and then jump on it. However don't wait too long, once that app comes out expect no sales and short supply.

Yes, I think it's too soon to see a Second Edition, but yes I would like to see one for the new trilogy. I want to get back to talking about the app. I would like to see them release an app for IA one that is similar to Road to Legend with a bit of "Campaign Tracker for IA," so you could actually use the app with already created campaigns from the core and expansions. I would like to do is have a community created campaign and mission section too like what they have with X-Wing's Mission Control!
I agree that it would likely be similar to Descent's Road to Legend.
However, I thought it worth noting that Road to Legend does not allow Overlord-less play of the existing material, it instead gives you new co-op material to play with your existing tiles and figures.
...which is fine with me, I love being able to play a Hero for once - I'm ALWAYS the overlord/imperial player!

I think you will see at least one 10 page thread on this forum the day we get an update on the app.. until then we wait patiently. We've got more than enough new content to play through at the moment anyway. But based on what has been said so far and our speculation for timeline releases we should see an Endor small box in the summer, most likely followed by another wave of figure packs which would then be followed by the app for a Christmas release. It would be the perfect way to wrap up the OT by allowing us to recycle all of our components into a brand new co-op campaign.
And just to touch on MisterEd's post although I am a month late, I really do enjoy playing the Imperial it is a lot of fun. You have so many tools at your advantage and depending on who you are playing against can scale the difficulty accordingly, I've never been a GM before but if it is half this much fun I should try it. That being said, being able to play the game with my wife or on the same side as my friends cooperatively is just way to enticing to turn down. But just because the app comes out doesn't mean playing the regular campaigns has to go away..
