Predators of the Aturi Cluster

By That Blasted Samophlange, in X-Wing

This concerns the proliferation of the predator talent in the campaign.

The idea is this:

Predator has an additional/alternate requirement, you can only use it against ships that you have an Ace rating against, meaning 5 kills. So if you have taken out 5 TIEs, you gain the predator against those ships. Take out 5 defenders, and predator against those, and so on.

It makes keeping track of kills worthwhile, beyond the always fun bragging rights, and rather than everyone buying it, as my friend suggests they do, it is free, but you have to get the killing blow against that ship type to earn the ace status.

We has some discussion on this about a month ago. Here is a link for reference.

I am the only one of four people who use Predator. I still whiff a lot. It gives some flexibility, for sure. But given the difficulty of the later missions, it isn't overpowered. For 6 XP, it is about as good as other 5-6 XP pilot abilities.

It's a very dull card so you wouldn't lose much by banning it if it proves to be a problem.

We play it as costing 4 points: only 1 reroll regardless of target PS. That seems to work well.

I've avoided it all the way through so far in my outmaneuver only A wing. EM and Prockets against non standard ties works well with outmaneuver

Just need vectored thrusters for barrel roll now!

I was totally looking forward to see the scum co-op campaign, instead I got this. Meh.

If you are finding it overpowered, I think having it only modify one die is the best way to fix it. Keep it the same points, though. It's still worth it. Predator as it is with Guidance Chip is pretty brutal. You get to re-roll 3 dice. Have that with Proton Torpedoes and it's very deadly.

Oh I am working on Pirates of the Aturi cluster, but writing the music and choreography takes time. Plus trying to figure out what ship gets the Patter songs..

As to Predator being overpowered, that is not the case, which is why I was suggesting that everyone will almost be guaranteed a version of it. The campaign can be tough, no doubt, especially with two player ships. My issue is that it seemingly becomes a 'must have' purchase, which becomes common (I play with 6-7 people including myself) making the early campaign ships feel exactly the same. First 9xp earned goes to pilot skill increase and predator. This isn't bad, or game breaking, merely, well.. Boring.

My proposal is to give it to almost everyone, but it has to be earned by the thematic element of becoming an ace, 5 kills, which as said, virtually every pilot can get against the basic TIE, the ship it has the most benefit against.

If the Imperial version of HotAC gets done, then I don't think it would take too long to get a Scum campaign done. I think the biggest problem is creating the AI for the different ships. Also, it would be figuring out the mechanic for things like Tie Fighters. Once you did that, you can apply the same for Scyks and Z-95's. Or just stick with Kihraxz Fighters and Y-wings to start things off.

In our running of the campaign a couple people took it early on, but quickly dropped it for better pilot abilities that combo well when they unlocked more slots. After PS 6 I cant think of anyone but 1 player n a Ywing that kept it.

I dont think its a big problem, but if your group does house rule it someway, that is fiar to all the players...take a vote if needed.

I am the very model of a scientist salarian,

I've studied species turian, asari and batarian,

I'm quite good at genetics as a subset of biology,

because I am an expert which I know is a tautology.

My xenoscience studies range from urban to agrarian,
