Begging for slicer tools to be toned down

By Apostasus, in X-Wing

Between Oicunn, Kylo, and Vader I never have to roll dice, so why are we complaining about a card that does?

I'm just so sick of seeing Soontir Fel as the first thing everyone does when they make an Imp list (with PTL and Auto Includes stapled to the card). I am very very tired of seeing it. I am quite happy to see something that blasts Imp Aces off the table for a while. Remember, it's going to be cyclical.

  1. Everyone takes Black Sun Slicer Tools and defeats all the Imp Aces.
  2. People stop taking Imp Aces all the time and learn to fly other options in the Imp lists.
  3. Black Sun slicer Tools doesn't get taken as much because people have moved on from Imp Aces.
  4. Slowly, a few people start to take Imp Aces again, but it's much more toned down.

The cycle of life is complete. We have ended the dominance of PTL Aces and people have moved on to other types of lists. They can come back, but there is always going to be the threat of Black Sun Slicer Tools to scare them. They have a decent counter.

Is this another "sky is falling" post of doom and gloom?

Someone sees their pet build threatened and of course the sky is falling.

It's a bit tiresome in its predictability.

Slicer tools look good, but 1pt, plus an action for the chance of hurting an ace is not cheap. Especially when that same ship could have taken feedback array and have a less conditional auto damage effect.

Calling for the nerf-bat and it hasn't even been released to the tabletop yet!

Reading this I just understood that VCX-100 with Hera might not be as fun any more :( I usually have a ton of stress tokens there..

I think you can rest easy man. If you're running a 16 HP ship with 0 agi, a 50% chance of losing a stress and getting a single point of damage at the cost of the enemy not getting a token definitely isn't the worst thing that could happen to you.

Um... you realize that BMST uses an action to activate, requires the enemy ship to be stressed and that it relieves a stress from the VCX each time, right? (also it works 50% of the time)

With an agility of 0, most ships will downright prefer to use their action on a focus or target lock if they want to damage the VCX (unless if its bound to be out of arc).

If you're scared of slicer tools, just take electric baffle.

That didn't take long. Wave 9 isn't even on general sale yet!

Get bingo yet?

Its hardly out and already Imperials crying NERF it...tstst

I'm an imperial player and I like it.

because they don't like it when TEH GLORIOUS MERCENARY FACTION gets shiny toys too

I just wish it was unique.

Imperial players and their greed, I swear.

You're fine unless you run up against a BMST swarm (which won't happen in anything but casual games). They're trading a token for a 50% chance to do a damage. Considering any and all hits will go straight to your health, I wouldn't mind if they slice me instead.

My biggest beef is low hull ships become extremely vulnerable to this. Anything with a hull value of 2 or below this is a major threat to, and really, anything with that hull value is not the hottest ship ever outside of the imperial lists. Many of those ships are already hurting for help anyways, and now they have it even worse off in the game. I am talking about things like the A-Wing (which is just about where they should stand in the Meta currently), the E-Wing, and the Scyk. It is a serious and unnecessary blow to these ships.

While I understand the need to target the Palpy Aces, but even they have alternatives lists that don't have interceptors.

Also, it will be interesting to see the slicers used during the combat phase with someone like Airen Cracken helping out.

You opponents are almost always going to be better off using their actions for dice modification against a VCX-100. I wouldn't worry about Slicer Tools too much.

If you're flying low hull non ace ships you should not have any problems with BMSTs

Because you have more ships that don't need to religiously ptl. Just kill the slicers with dice!

Meanwhile the scyk and E have problems and have had em since long before BMSTs were a gleam in ffg's eye

It only removes a stress if it gets a hit or a crit result. It doesn't remove a stress if it doesn't get to deal a card.

In response to reducing the prevalence of dodgers, most regen ships, who are relatively stiff but have powerful offense and defense and are weak to dodgers would see a resurgence. Appears they didn't want this to happen. This is an upgrade that wants swarmy lists to have a place in the meta, besides crack swarm. Even rebel swarms that don't have access to this upgrade like BBBBZ will get a small bump because aces are one of their worst match ups.

I should have written "relieves a stress from the VCX each time it works" for clarity's sake, but yeah, I knew. Basically, it's not as though a swarm of 7 Z-95 could use BMST to kill Soontir or anyone in one turn. If a single stress is present, the action can only result in a single damage per turn, which is relevant for an ace like Soontir, but not as critical for a VCX.

i would actually like them to spend their action to take my stress away and deal 1 damage to my ghost.

That lets me do a 2hard next turn and still EI Lando for that juicy token stacking on Kanan pilot lol

They are only vulnerable if they stress themselves. Just don't PTL. Find another EPT than the most over-used card in the history of X-wing.

Where/when was slicer tools spoiled? I can not find any link or article with it.

Slicer Tools is a fantastic inclusion to the game.

It's scary but I think I'll still run my rage tycho just because he is the most fun ship I play, maybe I just won't go mental with trying to get the biggest stress stack possible if I do actually see someone put the slicer tool down across the table.

Id love to k ow how your brobots are doing white kturns or sloops

Adrenaline Rush. It's all the new OP hotness.

(no it isn't.)

Maybe we'll see Leia crew to support low-hull Rebel ships? "I'm going to K-turn with all of my E-wings and there's nothing you can do about it!"

...yeah, that's never going to happen.
