R7-T1 and TL...

By Krimsonscythe, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Played a game using Norra(arc-170) tonight w/ R7-T1. My question ; If I already have a target lock on a ship can I reassign the TL to the same ship in order to get the free boost or does it need to be reassigned to another ship?

Eric J

Yes. TLs can be reassigned to the same ship.

Thanks... Thought so and wanted to make sure I didn't mistakenly take advantage.

Norra does not reassign the target lock. If she did, one of the target locks in the example that you posed would need to be discarded. Norra allows another ship to use her target lock as their own without ever changing the assignment of the token.

Norra's token may be spent by a ship that has its own. They can both be used during the same attack but an individual die can only be rerolled once.

Dude, that's Shara Bey. Norra allows you to spend a TL to add a focus result to your roll.

Pg 16 on the FAQ:

..."The ship equipped with R7-T1 MAY acquire a target lock... then the ship equipped with R7-T1 MAY perform a free boost action even if it did not acquire a Target Lock."

You don't actually need to acquire the target lock in order to get the free boost. The only requirement is that you are at Range 1-2 and inside the firing arc of an enemy ship. If you meet that requirement, then you have two things you can choose to do; acquire a TL on that ship, and/or perform a free boost action.

You can choose the TL or the boost action or both.

Yeah R7T1 has an oddity in his ruling. Were used to if we measure for TL we must take it, but he actually says you dont. The measure for 1-2 triggers either part of his ability and you MAY do either one.

R7T1 is going to see a lot of use on Thane i bet lol

Strictly speaking he would measure to see if he could activate, then separately measure for the TL. Not currently relevant, but if there's somehow a way in future to mount him to a ship which can also equip Long Range Scanners, you might be able to activate his ability but not get the TL because you're too close to the target.

Thanks all... I will say Norra was ridiculously effective. Enjoyed flying her immensely with Han. Looking forward for official release to grab another arc and run Shara and Norra together....

Totally read all sorts of stuff in the OP that wasn't actually there. That's prompted me to send off my application.

Wouldn't you always be too close for a target lock using R7-T1 if you had LRS?

true

you still technically have to measure though.

A ship with LRS and R7-T1 could activate the droid's ability, but it would never get a TL from the droid. It would become a free boost droid. Which would make it a slightly expensive upgrade for a very conditional free boost.

i dont think anything can take LRS and a droid anyway.

LRS needs missiles and torps. Only rebel ship with both is the kwing, which has no droid.

No, it would be a purely hypothetical ship at this stage.
