I saw this online and thought it would be fun to make some. I may paint later, but I am not that good. It's a Tye-wing and a Y-TIE. According to Legends lore, these type of ships were cobbled together by pirates and local star systems that didn't have money for real ships. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Ugly
Ugly Ships!
Cool
I always wondered how the one on the right moves.
How did you make the TYE-wing?
I really want to make one myself
Edit : nevermind, its suddenly blindingly obvious.
I am a twit.

The Y-TIE actually uses the TIE's engines, mounted on the back of its fuselage. The TIE-wing doesn't uses the TIE's engines but uses the Y-wing nacelles.

I realized that after I looked at it again, so a slight mod to the back should help.
I'll admit it, I've always liked the Y-TIE for some reason. I guess it just made more sense then the other Uglies, minus the Deathseeds of course.
Good work, I like the tie wing, y tie, tie y?!? The one with the tie fighter cockpit, always have liked the uniform ball cockpit of the empire's TIES.
LOVE IT!
Time to make a Deathseed
I dig it.

The Y-Tie Never made sense to me as the engines of the Y-wing are replaced with nothing but Solar Panels, and the engines of the Tie are on the back of the Ball Cockpit. The Tie wing would actually have 4 engines. Though Uglies are still fun ships to make and paint.

They half-assed a solution to the y-tie that the TIE engines were basically bolted onto the back of the Y cockpit - presumably to give a cockpit for the TIE that was spaceworthy rather than open to vaccuum.
But Uglies never really made sense.

I always thought about it like Cuban cars. If you have the skill, and lack funds or materials, a ship is better than no ship. You also have to think about the fact that space flight is common in Star Wars, and thus the tech would be as well.
You can go to Shapeways also and get them printed.

It bugs me as well.
The old Micro Machines (MM) Y-Wings, X-Wings, and TIEs are great to use for parts for uglies. It's a lot easier to cast the MM Y-Wing engines than the FFG ones, because the MM engines are solid.
Edit: The scales are a bit off compared to FFG's model sizes, but that's not a huge deal. The worst is probably the TIE solar panels, they are significantly smaller than the FFG panels.
Edited by PoeticEddaI 3D printed a bunch of the TIE-wings for a "never ending pirate hoard" casual game. Start with 6 TIE-wings VS a 150 point player squadron. The TIE-wings can "respawn" 3 at a time with no more than 6 on the field at once. each respawn counts as another wave. Goal is to see how many waves the other player can last through. TIE-wings have the maneuver dial and defense dice of a Y-wing, hull and guns of a TIE fighter. Gonna play test this one the next time my gaming buddies come to visit.

I really love all the model made by Losik. I've printed most of them, some with good results:

yeah, losik does great work. his escape pod and senators shuttle were among the first members of my 3D fleet.

Those are awesome.
Though the AT-ST variants don't make much sense, unless they're restricted to just atmospheric flight.
What wouldn't make sense is if they had the speeder bikes instead of the cockpits. Although cool, for me that would break the immersion more than imagining they sealed up an old AT-ST to make it space-worthy.
