What is the World of RuneWars?

By Ridge363, in Runewars Miniatures Game

I've never heard of this IP before the RuneWars announcement. What other games are set in this universe? Is there anything unique that distinguishes it from other "generic" fantasy? In the Warcraft are from another dimension/world while the Tolkken universe has orcs as a fallen elf race. Are there any such distinctions in the RuneWar universe?

Select Runebound

All of those games. Read the rune age rule book PDFs for a decent overview. It's FFG owned setting. They originally made it for disc wars.

Runebound (3 editions)

Runewars (board game)

Rune Age

Descent: Journeys in the Dark (2 editions)

BATTLELORE SECOND EDITION

Don't forget dungeonquest

Don't forget dungeonquest

Only the third (of four) editions.

Additional notes: Runebound 2E is but a minor revision of Runebound 1E. Runewars similarly has a (this time properly named) Revised Edition. And the original Terrinoth game is Diskwars, but it was released so much earlier than the rest that its canonicity is particularly questionable.

Here's another bit of lore from the Rune Age Scenario, The Monument. In that scenario, you race to collect enough gold to build your faction's monument -- a location that has extreme historical significance. The first picture has a picture of the monument, the second picture is the back of the card that explains what the monument is.

EDIT: I forgot to say which faction is which (though it's probably obvious).

Latari Elves Daqan Lords

Uthuk Y'llan Waiqar the Undying

Dunwarr Dwarves Orcs of the Broken Plains

Am I the only one who's a bit concerned with the naming convention? Ynferneal? Spell everything with a Q (Waiqar, Daqan, etc)? And I love how the largest piece of lore we have is from the Rune Age rulebook which is essentially brute force exposition with the phrase "as you know".

With all that said, I hope they really are working hard on the lore aspect. Would love another fantasy universe to sink my teeth into, now that my beloved Warhammer Fantasy had turned into an abomination...

For me, Terrinoth was actually only the second fantasy world I learned about (after Middle Earth). So a lot of people look at it as a tropey-knock-off. For me, it cool and new because I wasn't exposed to other sources first. And since I've been using these names for so long, I'd hate to see them change. The Qs and Ys and stuff don't bother me in the slightest. I am looking forward to a world book for Terrinoth, but I hope they don't drastically change what has been established because those are the parts I originally fell in love with, starting with Rune Age.

I'm going to put up a massive overview of Terrinoth soon with updated info. Probably will be up tomorrow, maybe the next day.

I played many miniature games. I also like it when you can play them quick. At the moment my favorites are Armada, Dust Tactics and Deadzone. For me are they are all kind of modern miniature games. You don't need to read a 300 page book, you also don't need measuring tapes. Just every casual player can learn them in 1-2 games. You play on grid or with templates. All information you need are on cards. You don't need to calculate dice results. They are dynamic and you don't need to wait 10 minutes until your enemy took his turns. I really was looking for something like this. I was always fascinated with WFB and similar games. I guess this is a game who i have waited for.

If FFG offers some novels in combination with campaign books to generate a deep background story, i see a bright future.

Me as well. I'd love to learn more about the world and its likely factions.

It's up now.

Battlelore is very quick (for a mini game anyway). Ever checked it out?
