ROGUE ONE TRAILER TOMORROW!

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

Well... this topic is chock-full of suck.

OMG....I jump to the end of the thread to see what everyone thinks of the trailer and I find this mess? Jeez....

Who cares about that crap! I see an awesome Star Wars movie that is about to come out and don't give a drop of jawa juice the gender of the main star. What I see is a bunch of people wanting to project their own issues onto a Star Wars film.

Diversity in roles is to promote the other half of the world to feel the sense of excitement in seeing someone like them up on the screen kicking ass and taking names with a real personality! Star Trek Beyond had the token ¨bad ass female¨ but really didn´t have any kind of real human depth to the character, so that fell flat. Yet Rey is someone that so many people look up to, I can not count the amount of people I know who did not even like Star Wars or want to see it before that are in love and Rey being a huge reason.

Diversity in no way hurts me as a man, because I have a million movies from the past 100 years I can watch lead by my gender, as well as new ones every year coming out, so yea, let the camera sit on someone else for a change because who is it honestly hurting?

I agree with you completely. I cried when she realized that The Force was calling to her, and she closed her eyes and she listened to it. That was better than most scenes in STAR WARS.

Now imagine how much more special that would feel if you're a young female SW fan seeing that happen for the first ever time in a 30 year old series, where you might even have previously been slightly ostracized for being a fan of a "boys movie." Seeing proof on screen that this was NOT a boys movie, it was an everybody movie. Would you want to see a whole lot more of those kinds of moments in movies, maybe enough to erase the damage done by implicit gender messaging in all the previous ones?

The implicit messaging in all movies that girls are a secondary role. Now producers like Kennedy are trying to undo that and "make things right." If she doesn't have an agenda in the casting of women and minorities in these new movies, she **** well should.

Agendas are bad, she certainly shouldn't have one.

She should have what makes the movie work. In this case, you could have a male OR a female lead, so there's nothing wrong with having a female lead. Heck, I like a good female lead, freshens things up.

But shoehorning things in (which I don't feel is happening with Star Wars btw) is not good for anyone.

I have two daughters. Having female leads is awesome. It's about time. (Note: Even if I had two sons, i'd still think it was awesome).

This trailer is awesome. Anything that makes me feel like that when I watch it is.

Awesome. I like the trailer very much... but I sure did want to see a few seconds of Vader Down...

IMP%2BLORD%2BDARTH%2BVADER%2BBAMF.PNG

If there is a sequence where Vader tanks an army, I will be gleeful because that will be cool.

I am the a-hole according to some people... okay that is on you, but don't be mad at me because I know what is going on and I do not like the falseness... the emptiness of it all.

Crazy talk. Marketing and target demographics. A movie which sells well for women and men sells these days better than movies aimed at niche audiences. Which is good, because a lot of the "stuff is for buys, stuff is for girls, stuff is negros" is based on marketing as well, as segregation is a good way to sell the same **** better for 5 different groups via targeted marketing. Luckily this does not work for movies and female action characters are these days simply important.

But hey, if a conspiracy of global feminist who operate billion dollar companies ( all 3 of them) works in your mind best. More power to crazy. Disney does what they think will increase profits. They hired JJ for TFA for that reason and made it ANH remake for that reason and they do indeed cast females for that reason. It business not secret conspiracies. Their agenda is to make money and they are not secret at all about that.

edit:

And as I had mentioned niche markets. No problem with movies aiming at them either, Dead Pool for example was great and totally aimed at a niche market. Star Wars is too big for niche markets.

Then you don't know what good story telling actually is... Hint: People have agendas when they write stories.

If the case is, that the agenda is, that woman can get **** done just as well as men, and you have a problem with that, then that is actually on you .

Hmm.

Thoughts....

The shot with the Star Destroyer over the plateau city.... looks like the back jacket art from "Dark Force Rising"

The droid sounds like Anthony Daniels

The monk like guy's scene should have gone like what would happen if a hadji approached a USMC checkpoint.

:click:"See that guy with the stick" :click:"...yeah" :click:"He's walking right toward us" :click:"Engage......" :click:"smells like ribenes though these filters"

I watched it again. Starting to think that Ja(y)n Ors(o) is an imperial double agent, one sent to locate the hidden rebel base that possibly has a change of heart and actually defects. Listen to the words without watching. "every day they grow stronger..." The deathstar wasn't to make the empire stronger, but consolidate power into the hands of the Emperor (aka Hitler) who feared his military generals and the senate (aka Hitler).

If that's the case it would be even better if she doesn't have a change of heart, although unlikely. Then the 'female lead' is undermined by the other rebels with her and they escape with the plans.

I dislike political agendas in Action & Fantasy movies. Those movies should be for entertainment.

I mean... if they make up a Ghostbusters movie, then who is the targeted audience?

I should be among these people, because I have watched the old movie when I was a kid and I liked it back then.

That would be a reason for me to watch the new one as well.

So they should target ME as well.

But hell no, they didn't! They gave the whole show to this freaking Paul Feig guy, who seems to have a serious problems with masculinity in general. Have you ever watched his twitter or facebook page? He is talking about badass women and ghostbuster girls all the time.

Arent they supposed to make money with their old friends and the "typical action movie watcher" as a targeted group?

So why the hell do they **** the whole thing up with a political agenda about femininsm? What's this all about? Why?

There are plenty of movies for women out there, just like almost any romance or whatever Pretty Woman like movie.

So let's talk about Star Wars now: I really don't understand all this "we need female lead" blah blah.

To hell with that! Just give the audience, which will be male for about 70 - 80 % what they want to see. And that's most probably NOT a female lead.

Anyways... trailer of Rogue One looks great. I am looking forward to the movie and I really hopy they won't ruin it with too much feminism or other political agendas.

There have been great female leads in the past. Just like in the Alien movies for example. That was awesome!

But I really really dislike female leads in movies just for political reasons. Just to "discipline" all these males out there, who which there was a Skywalker & Solo combo?

Back to the trailer, I think I realized what I'm liking most about R1 so far. We get to finally see the Empire!

Think about it. In all of the OT, we never really saw the Empire. We say outposts and secret military bases. We saw Imperial forces sent to remote planets to track or crush the Rebels. But outside the cartoons, we've never seen an actual planet under Imperial control. That shot of the ISD hovering over an old Jedi temple(?) oppressively and troops in the streets means we're gonna see just how the Empire is out there on typical planets oppressing every day people. In other words, actually see what the rebels are fighting for. Which is gonna be pretty cool.

A quick glance at the blasters and we have the classic E-11 Sterling SMG clone. The male lead's blaster looks like an AR15 w/ magpul'esk stock, and an extra AR10 lower welded in front of it (aka A280 using AR15 upper vs STG44). The optic looks like the A-280 one as depicted by WEG. Others include MG42 and the paratrooper version.

Somebody want to say again how we don't need an agenda in movies because people already get it? This person posting above was a kid in the 80s, meaning he's a grown man who completed at least some school and has a job and still thinks girls should like Pretty Woman and Ghostbusters is for boys. Holy hell.

One of my all time favorite film franchises is good ole RESIDENT EVIL. Why? Mila is awesome, and there are cool Zomies and Muties all up in there for her to battle... LOVE!

Alice even had a few cool dudes helping here in the films... just say'n.

Many people do not like the series... screw them.

How many girls are in this forum?

I know there are some and they are very welcome. I hope there will be more.

But guess what? There won't. Because the nature of women is different to the nature of men.

So stop gasping about "a grown man, romance movie blah blah".

Add in the lewis light mg / light repeating blaster; mouser pistol (male lead); and maybe an M240.

3-5 i know of for sure.

Women like co-operative games more than competitive games like this.

I disliked the new Ghostbusters not because they were all women but because it just wasn't a very good movie. Not a disaster, but not a success either. Just an average summer movie that all but vanished from my mind as soon as I left the theater (aside from Kate McKinnon, who was fantastic). But guess what? Nobody showed up and made me turn in my copy of the original film. It's still right there on my shelf to watch it whenever I want. Just like nobody forced me to go see the new one.

I'm not so insecure in my masculinity that a couple of female-led Star Wars movies sends me off clutching the pearls and shouting about agendas and corporate conspiracies. You know what? Men have had, oh, PRACTICALLY THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF HOLLYWOOD to be the lead characters. I have no problem with TWO Star Wars movies having female leads. That's two out of the eight existing Star Wars movies. If 25% is a frightening percentage, well, I can't help you. And let's not forget we have a stand-alone Han Solo movie coming. But please, keep talking about an agenda.

You guys must have absolutely HATED Alien and Aliens. All those men in those movies and they had to make it all about Ripley.

She's not in forums like this because like a lot of geeky women I know, she thinks they must be full of creepy neckbearded manchildren. Can't imagine why. Or why I'm here either actually, I must be a masochist.

My wife would play, but real life gets in the way. She loves Imperial Assault though. As games get increasingly competitive though, the Grunting Men Factor increases and women drop out.

This reminds me of the outrage when they recast Starbuck as a woman, saying she was less manly than the original. Manly? Dirk Benedict's weaselly Starbuck?

In some of your post you look like one, just on the opposing team of those guys you meant with your post. :P

Besides. Nah. "They" want you to think freely, logical without prejudice. Stunning concept, but prejudice limit one's ability to think. Which then leads to crazy ideas. Like the refugees leave their homes and most of their stuff to **** "our" women or that geek stuff is a boys club or that females are bad at science and math. Silly stuff like this.

Well done missing the point.

Agendas in story - good. Agendas in the casting of your movie - bad.

If you'd bother to read my comment, you'll notice I actually DON'T have a problem - I think these new characters and movies will be great. Rey was the best part of TFA (after Harrison Ford acted everyone else off the screen)

What I do have a problem with is putting people in parts of movies for the sake of showing how inclusive you can be. Ghostbusters - didn't need female leads, we wanted a sequel. The new Harry Potter play didn't need Black Hermione. Regardless of how you pictured her reading the books (and let's be honest, you pictured her as white) as a PLANET, we had white Hermione ingrained on our consciousness after Emma Watson played her in the films.

No, if you want to be inclusive, write a part designed for a woman or a non-white person. It'll be better, won't be forced and there's a huge range of brilliantly skilled actors out there who will do well with the part. I don't know if they decided to have a female lead and then wrote the script, or the other way round. As long as Felicity Jones acts well in the movie, I'll be a happy Penguin. She looks fantastic so far.

All of the above goes for whitewashing too buy the way. If a character is something in a book or original media, that's how I expect them to be portrayed in the movie.

I disliked the new Ghostbusters not because they were all women but because it just wasn't a very good movie. Not a disaster, but not a success either. Just an average summer movie that all but vanished from my mind as soon as I left the theater (aside from Kate McKinnon, who was fantastic). But guess what? I ABSOLUTELY ADORE BOTH FILMS... even have them on super special extended directors dual disk packs... LOVE!

;)

Don't start hating on men now and naming every good film with a female lead.

TERMINATOR II... best ever... EVER!

Yeah, my wife is totally into Zergs too. And I don't think this is because of Kerrigan either. ;-)

I'm way more into romantic comedies than my wife is

Oh really? That's not really typical for a man though :)
