ROGUE ONE TRAILER TOMORROW!

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

I'm sorry, but I love it. So many visual callbacks... It truly looks like the prequel to the first Star Wars I loved.

Boss knows his STAR WARS... OLD & NEW.

Imma be a mean-ole-fat-man for a minute too...

Donnie is great and I have loved most of his stuff... BUT: he did not sling Storm Troopers around like rag dolls. He is not a Jedi, he is a Force Monk... kinds. If his stick was infussed with power via his meditations and it had a slight blue glow or something cool like that then I would buy it.

GURLS... I love 'em... but stop turning our men into women. We got GURL-Luke in TFA and now here comes GURL-Han... me is over it Queen-Kathy. Go be a strong woman in real life, that is fine, but keep your GURL-Stuff out of my STAR WARS!!!

Okay I am done being a mean-ole-fat-man... now.

While Star Wars has always relied heavily on archtypes, I think it is sad that you reduce new characters to a corresponding character from the OT.

That was my favorite part of the trailer. Reminds me of the scene on Hoth where the rebel snowspeeders fly over the trenches as the ground troops are just starting to engage the AT-AT's. I have hope this movie is what Star WARS is supposed to be. Not cute and fuzzy...or whimsical and funny. Actual real war between a disciplined military against a rough band of freedom fighters standing up to oppression.

For me, Empire Strikes Back was still the best Star Wars. It was dark and harsh. The rebels were not fighting for Hoth, they were fighting to survive and sacrificed a part of their forces, so the rest could escape to fight on. Luke was even shot down during the battle and a good part of the Rouge pilots gave their lives. The lightsaber fight was devastating, because as a kid you think the good guy is just always going to win. The surprise of seeing Han froze, Luke beat, and Vader reveling the truth was overwhelming when I was 6 years old. I walked out going WOW! and then spent the next two years wondering if they were ever going to be able to rescue Han and what Luke would do if Vader really was his father. Point is...as a child, I was very much entertained by a movie that was not all light humored and cuddly.

All of that! Though, never got the chance to see ESB in theatres...missed it by a few years.

I apologize. I get a bit grumpy when I begin to see signs of the ugly side of fandom begin to pop up.

TFA sucked. It was rushed and copied. The first time I watched it, I felt like it was a fun popcorn flick...but as I watched it, I just keep feeling like I was watching a regurgitated New Hope. I have watched it 5 more times and I hate it even more each time I watch it. I think it sucks even more than the prequels. There was only one scene in TFA that I really liked. When the X-Wings were making their first bombing run and the camera angle showed them from a distance dropping down...Otherwise, the rest was just disappointing. Seeing the second trailer of Rouge One, I have already seen far more scenes that remind me of the excitement when watching Empire during those tense moments of battle.

You watched a movie you didn't really like 6 times in 9 months? No wonder you hate it more every time

Yes sir, dam right boy

What's with all thses ethnic minority rebels too???

Star Wars should be all about the White male, no one else mattered.

Got any emojis that have a blind Chinese fella getting blasted??

Bloody amazing trailer, can't wait to see it, in ALL its diversity

So the whole premise of the movie is that Mon Mothma is offering to 'wipe the crime record slate clean' for Jyn if she gets the Death Star plans, but...

...on whose authority, exactly , is Mon Mothma offering that?

I mean, we've all played (or are at least familiar with) FFG's "Rebellion" game, that does a pretty good job presenting the state of the galaxy at this time. Isn't this offer predicated not only on getting the plans , but the Rebellion then WINNING THE WAR? Because otherwise, it's just a death sentence to be not only associated with the Rebellion, but having been the person to perform such an extreme degree of espionage.

Just bribe/threaten the right people. Rebels are murders, thieves and terrorists right?

Miss Jones even said that she is The New Han Solo at Celebration... I am not sad at all.

I AM INFORMED.

Wait, just like Kyle Katarn was the new Han Solo in Dark Forces when he gets the medal OH SNAP MY CHILDHOOD IS RUINED

One thing that I never realised (only ever having played the first Dark Forces) was that Jan Ors was the Star Wars equivalent of Asian. The original art was so low res! How dare Lucasarts sneakily put diversity in my Star Wars cereal! etc.

Seriously though, great trailer and I'm even more amped. I wonder if there is a connection between Metal Stick Guy and Rey? Her sensei, maybe (non-Jedi academy, was not slaughtered by Kylo)?

stop turning our men into women.

Miss Jones even said that she is The New Han Solo at Celebration.

The remark that she is the "new Han Solo" is obviously just a casual remark that she is playing a loner/scoundrel type, not an actual admission of being a female replacement of what was originally a male character since both her character and the entire story arc she is appearing in occur prior to Han Solo's introduction and existence in the Star Wars universe. So the entire alledged wrongdoing of "turn[ing] our men into women" doesn't work since there was no original man to be "turned into" a woman.

Now if you want to allege that the complaint is predicated on the EU male character of Kyle Katarn who, again in the EU, stole the Death Star plans being the supposed man "turned into a woman" then that makes a bit more sense. Except we know they've reduced the EU to inspirational material and little else. Except we know R1 isn't going to be a Dark Forces movie. Except literally nothing but the basic plot of the Rebellion needing to steal the DS plans is being used and even that isn't taken from Dark Forces: the director and producers are on record saying that the idea came after noticing the singular line in the ANH opening title crawl mentioning "rebel spies." So if you know all that, as you must because the demotion of the EU material is widely known and Hollywood would never make a movie --especially for a franchise like SW that is being kept under wraps as much as possible-- based on a video game whose plot is already known, then it seems peculiar that you somehow still think Jyn Orso is in anyway associated with a pre-existing male character. What, you think they throw out all of the Dark Forces script except Kyle, while not using his name or even the story he exists in, and then they turned him into a woman?

Just don't see the grounds for complaint unless you're just complaining about the recent trend of putting women in leading roles, which seems likely given your reference to the all female reboot of Ghost Busters and implied supposition that it failed due to its all female cast (as opposed to it being yet another tepid reboot in a long sequence of reboots that fail to do well). So if you just don't like seeing women in leading roles, or even just action roles, then your complaint makes more sense. I disagree with it but, as far as opinions go, the bar for them making sense is lower and allows for it. But don't conflate Jones' comments as some sort of admission that her character was initially --- let alone rightfully in a fictitious universe -- a man and somehow was "turned into a woman." Come on, dude.

I suspect that Jyn is captured by the Rebels, probably trying to steal from them. So, yes, Mon Mothma would at least have the ability to get her out of Rebel imprisonment.

It is a curious plot point but so far I've not seen anybody bring up the possibility that her incarceration is likely due to the fact that she works for Saw Gerrerra or is closely associated with his extremist group, someone the leaders of the larger Rebel Alliance deem a criminal but acknowledge that him and his band of "terrorists" have the experience and knowledge needed to infiltrate heavily fortified Imperial facilities. That could explain their willingness to work with Jyn and offering her a clean slate despite their mistrust.

Anyway, the trailer was simply awesome! Soo many cool moments. It really does feel like a proper Star Wars WAR film and I really hope they trailer music is what we're actually getting in the final film cuz that's some epic sounding s**t! Can't wait for December to arrive.

I'm still blown away by the new Mon Mothma. Can I spell doppelganger?

Really I just want the movie to made with as much care and turn out as well as that casting choice for Mon Mothma. If the movie is as good as she is then all will be well. Be the movie the deserves her casting!

You both know that it's the same actress that played Mon Mothma in Episode 3 in 2005, right?

Yeah, but her scenes were largely (entirely?) deleted and, in keeping with that of course, she wasn't a major figure -- let alone appearing so prominently in the trailer. So really she's being noticed more now. Plus isn't she in a the same garb as ROTJ now, which she wasn't before? I could be wrong. The point being that you're right and I remember now having seen her before, but she's just so much more of a feature now that I suspect people such as myself are paying more attention to her and thus being struck by her likeness more than we would've (as history shows) when she was a perihperal character in a deleted scene in a movie whose focus she was, shall we say like Tatooine, the planet its farthest from. That's all. =)

Eh, I suspect she's just been caught causing trouble in a Rebel controlled sector. Insurgency or not, once under their auspices as an individual I'm sure that's a big deal. Plus her record isn't one of an Imperial patriot who can expect to be freed by the Imps if they liberate the prison/Rebel sector. She'll just be another troublemaker. So the offer is one of parole for service. And her record does seem to suggest she's looking for a cause ergo... A mild plot point but one I think can be easily addressed once in movie. Looking for politically accurate and true to life civil powers regarding the individual and the judiciary system in a brief trailer of a science fiction movie? You ask too much man! I'm sure the complexities of establishing a nascent government while waging an intergalactic insurgency against an evil empire led by space wizards will be addressed in the extended cut. ; )

I just hope they do a 40th anniversary cinema re-release of all the pre/mid trilogy films...6+hr marathons [with comfort breaks] of each trilogy, maybe with this one in front of ANH for an 8+hr SW-fest!!

...athough whether my aging bladder could manage it is another matter! :D

(yes, I really did just say I want to see the prequels again...I have no problems with them...it's just a matter of forgetting prejudices and pre[post?]conceptions and immersing oneself ;) )

I have hope this movie is what Star WARS is supposed to be. Not cute and fuzzy...or whimsical and funny. Actual real war between a disciplined military against a rough band of freedom fighters standing up to oppression.

That trailer is amazing, I want this film now :) Its even cool how the Imperial landers kind of get the shape of Trade Federation landers while in the air, some good design bridging.

Bring on December :)

Can't wait.

I wanted more "Saving Private Ryan"... but yeah it is going to be a real movie... looks like Gurl Han actually is dying as she walks towards that TIE... I might love this dam-movie.

No problem at all my Star Brother. Some people like to band wagon if you have an observation of something you love being corrupted by a huge company that wants to sell us what we should already understand... like being accepting of all races and gendure because we are all humans on the same world.

Stop preaching to me Kathy... I knew this stuff thirty years ago.

My girlfriend even commented on this all-gurl-power-trend... and she does not like it either.

We want great STAR WARS Films... agenda free please.

This looks like it will be a great Star Wars film, so we're all good then.

Seriously, I really don't get the GIRLS EWW thing. THere are precisely two female characters shown in all the trailers, and one of them is Mon Mothma, i.e. basically an NPC quest-giver.

The rest of the film looks to be a total sausage fest, except Jan Ors. Sorry, Jyn Erso. I'm not seeing how this is girls corrupting Star Wars? It has about the same gender balance as the OT - i.e. largely men.

You're seeing an agenda where there is none.

If the next film has a blatant Prince Lee in there replacing BELOVED Princess Leia that would aggravate me very much indeed...

;)

Seen as this has devolved into 'Girls in Movies again'...

I'm against gender-bent reboots. What's the point of releasing the same movie when all that has changed is the gender of a character? To me, it means nothing about diversity. Ghostbusters is as much about the characters played by Murray et al, as it is about anything else. Changing their genders doesn't work for me. I feel similarly about changing the race or sexual orientation of characters who are already established. No black James Bond please.

Having said that - and assuming you can all get past the inevitable rage at the above - I DO firmly believe there should be more female and ethic minority leads in movies, comics, TV shows, whatever. But this needs to be done with fresh, original characters with their own history and their own characteristics appropriate to the actor/actress in the role.

To this end, I think Jyn and Rey were brilliant introductions to the franchise. We had Luke, Han, Obi-wan and Anakin and they were great. Well, maybe not Anakin. But these look great, and I can't wait to see this movie.

TL:DR - Jyn good, movie looks good, hurry December.

OK.

The next Star Wars spin-off movies are going to be about Han Solo, Boba Fett and Yoda. Disney is NOT coming for taek all teh sasages. It's OK.

Calling it: a Rogue One starter box featuring a big T-65 buff and two TIE Strikers. U-Wing sold separately.

Still don't trust the director after Godzilla.

But the trailer looks interesting, but will be waiting on reviews.
