ROGUE ONE TRAILER TOMORROW!

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

How happy would we of been if it WAS JAN... instead of Gurl-Han?

She's not "Gurl-Han". What on <insert planet of your choice> are you talking about? Not a bit like Han. A new character. Seems to be a good one.

I've yet to see her do anything that Han Solo does...

A few jokes thrown around about the movie being human-centric. I would actually have liked to see more Aliens in the rebel ranks, but I think canonically they don't get much support until after the Death Star shows them to be a legitimate threat to the Empire...

I think arguing over the main character being a woman misses the real reason to be concerned: the fact that there's only like two shots with X-Wings in them, so the chances of it coming with a fix for the T-65 might be slim.

Two shots of two separate battles. TFA had two battles with X-wings and in less than a year after the T-70 was released it is getting a repaint rerelease with shitload of new pilots, most of them appearing on screen for two seconds and saying one line.

Hmm.

Thoughts....

The shot with the Star Destroyer over the plateau city.... looks like the back jacket art from "Dark Force Rising"

The droid sounds like Anthony Daniels

The monk like guy's scene should have gone like what would happen if a hadji approached a USMC checkpoint.

:click:"See that guy with the stick" :click:"...yeah" :click:"He's walking right toward us" :click:"Engage......" :click:"smells like ribenes though these filters"

I apologize. I get a bit grumpy when I begin to see signs of the ugly side of fandom begin to pop up.

No problem at all my Star Brother. Some people like to band wagon if you have an observation of something you love being corrupted by a huge company that wants to sell us what we should already understand... like being accepting of all races and gendure because we are all humans on the same world.

Stop preaching to me Kathy... I knew this stuff thirty years ago.

Shella+and+Me+%28WEB%29.jpg

My girlfriend even commented on this all-gurl-power-trend... and she does not like it either.

We want great STAR WARS Films... agenda free please.

:)

The increased inclusion of female and diverse leads is NOT an attempt to teach a lesson to white dudes about diversity. It's not aimed at you. It's aimed at people like my daughter who get super excited to see movies about people more like her for a change. It makes it easier to place yourself in the action and identify with the character especially for young people, who need to be shown that they are equal, not just told yes you can be the hero too, now go watch the 500th Sci Fi movie in a row about a bunch of guys with one token female.

If that means we need a 20-40 year run where all the traditional male roles are changed to women, great! Bring it on. Anybody who doesn't like it because they suddenly feel like how women/minirities have been feeling for all of human history, even better.

I personally hope every SW movie from now on has female/diverse leads. I hope they cast a woman to play Lando and don't even explain it as long as they bring Billy Dee back for Ep. 8 ;)

Seems like you're more hung up on the gender of Star Wars characters than Kennedy is.

I hope not, otherwise how will I ever get to see female Lando in the Han Solo movie? ;)

Bit much. Bring back Lando. Or introduce smooth talking black woman. Or better yet, do both!

Nobody is doubting that YOU know it. And yes this is something everybody SHOULD know. But browse any comment section in the internet if you want proof most people do NOT know it, and definitely NEED it crammed down their throats in order to get it.

And that may make the 15% of women in America who are third wave feminists happy but it won't mean Jack to women who don't hate men.

In the UK it's even worse that would please only 6% who are third wave.

As ghost busters clearly demonstrates pushing from ultra left wing does not work, insulting and trying to shame men does not work.

All it does is destroy the social progress we've made to this point.

You try to push all female leads even when they clearly don't work when 'll just see Hollywood collapse because people won't go to watch it and you can't force them.

Yeah we are getting that cute badger guy at least, and some other lizard fellow.

Reports are that this year was the worst on record for the film industry... just saying.

if you people (saying in general) that hate the men that noticed this GURL-Power-trend... well, you are a part of the little problem...

;)

Everyone: "Hollywood sucks, they do the same thing over and over. Do something new!"

Hollywood: *Starts changing things, including the characters they write and who is cast as them*

Everyone: "OMG stop changing things for the sake of it, we're sick of your agendas!"

Ugh, as I white straight man, I weep for my gender. We're starting to look like total whiny cry-babies.

Rey instantly became one of my top 5 Star Wars characters, and Jyn has the potential to as well (along with everyone else in Rogue One). I'm glad we are starting to get some difference in our fandom films. It keeps things fresh, reflects real life and opens it up to new groups of fans who may otherwise have overlooked it. Keep it up Lucasfilm!

On to what we SHOULD be discussing...HOLY **** THAT WAS AN AMAZING TRAILER!

My girlfriend even commented on this all-gurl-power-trend... and she does not like it either.

Than **** your girl too. :P

Look at the freaking cast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oQzVCJ_sQE

1 female action character and the rest all males. That would be underrepresenting even my freaking nerd star wars rpg group or my last x-wing tourney. It is ******* silly to have only one girl and the equivalent of an npc quest giver in that movie. Agenda my ass, if anything they have an agenda to please american redneck star wars fans and hope the rest of the fans are still buying as much stuff as always. It's silly to have just one female combat character in the whole movie when the movie has tons and tons of action boys.

And you know what is silly as well? Calling Jhin gurl-han. For obvious reasons they can not use Han Solo in this movie anyway. So even if that would be a Han Solo type character (which does not look like at all), what would be your point? The archetype of Han Solo is not gender specific at all, he is a scoundrel who rather runs than fights, rather gambles than works. It was literal archetype long before it was used in Star Wars and it does not fit Jyn at all. Gurl-Han my ass.

You are just crazy talk.

Ghostbusters made it´s budget back and then an extra 220 million. Star Trek, Batman Vs Superman, and Warcraft all failed to do that which were all as man as you can get. Female leads work, but your arguments against it still work too because they´re based on prebuild ideas that you search for validation of it in any form, ignoring the whole picture for little bits that support your claims.

Diversity in roles is to promote the other half of the world to feel the sense of excitement in seeing someone like them up on the screen kicking ass and taking names with a real personality! Star Trek Beyond had the token ¨bad ass female¨ but really didn´t have any kind of real human depth to the character, so that fell flat. Yet Rey is someone that so many people look up to, I can not count the amount of people I know who did not even like Star Wars or want to see it before that are in love and Rey being a huge reason.

Diversity in no way hurts me as a man, because I have a million movies from the past 100 years I can watch lead by my gender, as well as new ones every year coming out, so yea, let the camera sit on someone else for a change because who is it honestly hurting?

Well... this topic is chock-full of suck.

I agree with you completely. I cried when she realized that The Force was calling to her, and she closed her eyes and she listened to it. That was better than most scenes in STAR WARS.

Ghostbusters is being considered a flop. http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/movies/the-verdict-is-in-ghostbusters-flopped/news-story/b32b89c525233509c899886cbd19862a

Now, how much of this is to do with feminism or whatever is by the by, although I personally don't think it is a good example to be using - it really focussed on the 'look these are girls, suck it men' idea of marketing. There are other movies you should use as a good example of female leads, but Ghostbusters is not a good movie.

As I've said before though, I'm fully behind having some women lead in Star Wars roles. Rey was good, and Felicity Jones looks like she's going to make Jyn really goo too.

Now imagine how much more special that would feel if you're a young female SW fan seeing that happen for the first ever time in a 30 year old series, where you might even have previously been slightly ostracized for being a fan of a "boys movie." Seeing proof on screen that this was NOT a boys movie, it was an everybody movie. Would you want to see a whole lot more of those kinds of moments in movies, maybe enough to erase the damage done by implicit gender messaging in all the previous ones?

The implicit messaging in all movies that girls are a secondary role. Now producers like Kennedy are trying to undo that and "make things right." If she doesn't have an agenda in the casting of women and minorities in these new movies, she **** well should.

I am the a-hole according to some people... okay that is on you, but don't be mad at me because I know what is going on and I do not like the falseness... the emptiness of it all.

Give these jobs to the best people... period, and make great STAR WARS Films... that is all I want from Mouse in the future.

:)

I have two daughters. Having female leads is awesome. It's about time. (Note: Even if I had two sons, i'd still think it was awesome).

This trailer is awesome. Anything that makes me feel like that when I watch it is.

Nah, Agenda in such movies is silly too. If you do a movie with an agenda you just end up hurting the movie. Having a decent representation of gender within a movie is just good movie making IF your target demographics are males and females. Which totally is the case for star wars, because star wars has become for everyone. Your only agenda in movie making should be to make a good movie. Which is where ghostbusters failed and the prequel movies failed. Your only agenda when making a star wars movie is making a good star wars movie, which is where TFA failed.

More like: Hollywood: continues to make derivative schlock, but with marginally more diverse casts.

Almost Everyone: We said original stuff please, but we like the diversity.

Loud a-holes: WE HATE CHANGE!

I don;t think Ghostbusters was unsuccessful because of the female cast, I think it was unsuccessful because it was an uninspired remake with a slightly janky plot that was a little over-reliant on SFX to paper over the cracks. The cast was about the best thing about it, they had really enjoyable chemistry, seeing a female engineer in a prominent role being a badass was great, and Melissa McCarthy is one of Hollywood's funniest people right now. In much the same way the diverse cast was one of the best things about TFA (albeit, mostly diverse in terms of race rather than gender), and looks like it will be one of the best things about Rogue One (ditto).

The message of inclusion and empowerment it sends to young women and young people of colour is just an added bonus.
