Gozanti carrier and ships.

By LugWrench, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I know that the gozanti carrier can use an upgrade card to carry 4 TIE Fighters, bombers, interceptors, or advanced. Does this also allow it to carry ships from the Imperial Veterans and Aces packs?

Sort of. I mean, it can carry TIE Interceptors, which covers Imperial Aces, and it can carry TIE Bombers, which covers half of Imperial Veterans.

Ships with TIE in their name that it can't carry: Phantoms, Punishers, Defenders, Advertising Prototypes.

I know it can't carry TIE/FO's and probably won't carry the TIE/SF's. I know that some imperial TIE's have descriptions or titles such as TIE/[insert variant here]. What about those types of ships and cards?

It absolutely can carry TIE/FOs and TIE/SFs. The rule for ship-type-specific upgrades is that if the ship type contains all the words in the requirement, it meets the requirement. So an upgrade that says it works with TIE Fighters works with TIE Fighters, TIE/FO Fighters, and TIE/SF Fighters.

Docking Clamps still requires all the docked ships to be of the same type, so you can't have two regular TIEs, one TIE/FO, and one TIE/SF.

Titles often have names that are reminiscent of ship type names, but that doesn't actually change the ship type of the ship on which it's equipped (unless the card said it did, but there aren't any that do that at this point). So a TIE Interceptor with "Royal Guard TIE" is still a TIE Interceptor for the purpose of card restrictions. In other words, titles have no impact on whether a ship can dock to the Gozanti.

Does anyone have an official ruling for that, though? TIE Fighters are okay, because they have the keywords 'TIE' and 'Fighter' on the ship cards. But the TIE/FO says "TIE/fo Fighter". The upgrade card specifically says "TIE Fighter".

Youngster allows it (through FAQ, not errata) so we assume we can apply the same reasoning to Clamps (which probably won't get an FAQ as it's Epic).

But 'Youngster' has the TIE Fighter designation on his card, so he works with the Docking Clamps.

everything regarding TIE/fo's are counting them as TIE Fighters. They are literally the same thing just from 2 different eras (what 25ish years apart?) so one is more advanced but otherwise the same thing.

TIE/sf ... im kinda leery about that being labeled the same thing. Yeah it looks the same but its heavily modified. Right now its still considered a TIE Fighter, though i wonder if that will stick around.

Do you have that in black and white, somewhere, Digital? Like...an official FFG ruling?

Rules Reference p20, under "Upgrade Cards":

Ship-type only: This upgrade can only be equipped to a ship of the specified type. If the ship’s type includes the entirety of the restricted type, it can equip that upgrade. For example, a TIE/fo fighter can equip an Upgrade card restricted to “TIE Fighter only.”

FAQ p12, next to "Youngster":

“Youngster” can use his ability in conjunction with TIE fighters as well as TIE/fo fighters.

The first explains how the ship type name matching rule works, with the specific example that TIE/FO Fighters count as TIE Fighters. The Youngster clarification makes it clear that this rule is supposed to be used for ship-type-specific effects in general, not just for cards that are restricted in which ship types can equip them.

Does anyone have any kind of official FFG ruling on this?

It's in the rulebook and the FAQ. I don't think it can get any more "official" than that.

Advertising Prototypes.

I'm assuming this was an autocorrect thing but...

"Ok I'm thinking a Tie Fighter, but with girls in bikini's on it, and it will be parked on a beach.."
